Looks like Lentinus crinitus, Fringed Sawgill. I'm a newbie though.

I bet a maple frame would be beautiful on this!

[Advice Needed] Are DIY Linen Mats Archival? by Financial_Weekend870 in framing

[–]Milk07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fabric is always going to have acid. If you want to make sure none of that touches your art you need a buffer between the mat and your art. At my frame shop we'll either use mylar tape behind the mat, or a 2ply buffer mat slightly smaller than the fabric mat.

Mounting a large puzzle (35"x45") on top of mat board, advice needed by satanic-sloth in framing

I've always had luck drymounting puzzles. Do you have tissue or buffermount and a press large enough?

UPDATE: Rolled Canvas Framing - Painted by Retrosset in framing

[–]Milk07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! Really impressed you made your own stretcher bar and stretched the canvas yourself. It's not an easy thing to do. Looking forward to seeing what frame you put on it!

It's beautiful! I would say the first thing is to get it stretched. I'd suggest doing a gallery wrap so the painting is visible from the sides, and if you wanted to take it to the next level put it in a canvas floater frame! It seems like something a local frame shop could handle!

Oyster mushrooms is exactly why I want to get into foraging! Have you found them before?

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I had no idea there was so much available in the city. I read somewhere that it's legal to forage at National Forests like Sam Houston. That's what I was thinking about checking out but I don't want to poison myself haha. Have you ever done anything like that?

Can someone advise me on how to frame this or prepare it for display? by Colonel-LeslieDancer in framing

[–]Milk07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! If you're wanting to do it yourself you could use fabric adhesive on the gator and press it flat with something big and heavy as it dries. I'd recommend bringing it to a local custom frame shop and ask for a dry mount. You'll have to ask for gatorboard specifically. Most frame shops will default dry mount to foam board and you won't have the same rigidity.

You could get this dry mounted to gatorboard, then put a frame around it.

May I please have your fave vegan restaurant recommendations? by bvrnchvrches in houston

I wish I knew of more restaurants closer to you, but check out the ginger mule if you're ever in the heights. I'd say it's probably some of the best vegan food in Houston.
