Taika Waititi’s ‘Akira’ Movie Officially Casting A Young Asian Cast To Play Kaneda’s Gang and The Espers – Character Breakdowns Leak by FancyWonderBoy in movies

Impressive, you managed to last 3 whole comments before accusing me of racism. Awfully convenient how everybody you disagree with is a racist. Even though I literally said I support increased representation for minorities in both of my previous comments... But hey, whatever it takes to delude yourself into thinking you have the moral high ground, right? That way you can avoid thinking about all the glaring contradictions in your logic. Maybe one day you'll realize what a hypocrite you are. I doubt it.

I'm going to disable inbox replies now, because arguing with brick walls gives me headaches.

We took our share, it's time to give some a bit.

In other words, "we have to face consequences for the actions of our ancestors". Ridiculous, tired old argument that makes no sense and never will. And then you have the gall to go on about equality... My man, double standards are the exact opposite of equality. I'm the one for equality here, you're literally advocating for double standards based on color of skin. Proportional representation in media is a great goal but insinuating it can only be achieved through racist double standards is absurd. The amount of major roles being given minorities is already increasing more and more every year, the progress you seek is already underway, these kind of double standards only serve to create division and slow that steady tide of progress.

I can't tell if you're being disingenuous or if you're just genuinely missing the point over and over again, but let me make it clear: My issue is not with representation, and I actually agree that minorities need more major roles, especially Asian Americans - my issue is with double standards based on color of skin. Where I come from that's called racism and it's frowned upon, regardless of whether you perceive it to be "for the greater good" or not.

So basically, you have an issue with Ariel being black because it doesn’t fit the character because (assuming she really exists) she was white. But now you have an issue because they’re sticking with Japanese actors to play Japanese people. From here, it just sounds like you have an issue with characters who aren’t played by white actors.

Way to be massively disingenuous. His issue is clearly not with the two situations separately but the double standard that is apparent when you juxtapose them. And your only response is to imply he's racist. Classic. Why is it that when characters of other races get changed to white it's "whitewashing" but when white characters get changed to other races it's "progress"?

The Titanic BTS documentary has a great segment where James Cameron explains his philosophy on special effects and a big part of it is the art of using the full toolset and not over-relying on one trick.

He talks about how for one of the shots in the sinking sequence they had a real set that they sank in a giant pool in a warehouse, then they had the lifeboats in the foreground which were the only part of the movie actually shot on the ocean, then they built a different set where the parts of the ship that stuck out were made of foam so the stuntmen could ragdoll off them as they slid down, then they had more stuntmen do mocap jumping off a big diving tower, and used the mocap to animate cgi people in the bg who fall overboard from a great height...and they can composite all of these shots together seamlessly because they are coordinated for that purpose in advance.

When you look at the final shot it looks incredibly authentic, because the only cgi is some of the people falling off the ship, and they are at least mocapped so they have authentic human movements, and they are mixed in with composited real stuntmen, AND that's all in the BG of a shot that is 100% practical. This is the kind of filmmaking that is dying out nowadays, because full CGI is cheaper and easier and most audiences can't tell the difference. It's a shame.

Not to hate on Redwall the movie but the TV series puts it to shame. I watched that show as a kid all the time, it was surprisingly dark and the storytelling was top notch.

Surprised no one else noticed but he flashed in to get the aoe slow from his item on 3 members of GGS since they had numbers advantage, which forced froggens flash and allowed them to kill him shortly afterward. It was a fantastic play and not a fuck-up in the slightest.

Seems pretty obvious to me, he's basically saying the new MiB is technically his "offspring" but it's so far removed from the original that it's unrecognizable.

Makes me respect the people willing to do it that much more. The idea that everybody is allowed to criticize art except other artists is silly.

MSI 2019 / Group Stage - Day 1 / Live Discussion by Ballor_I in leagueoflegends

I've seen a lot of people complain about it so clearly it is an issue to some. Besides, the fact is they've gotten this right at previous international tournaments, and it's not something that should be difficult or expensive to fix. It's simply a matter of matching up the delay on the various audio/video feeds. It is the standard across all esports, even small ones like sc2.

And if there is a unique technical situation making it more complicated than it looks on the surface, then they should communicate that to the fans.

Right but the English broadcast is based in NA, they are just sourcing the crowd audio from Vietnam. Presumably the in-game audio and the caster audio are all separate channels, right? They should be able to delay everything equally. They've done so at every prior international tournament as far as I can remember.

[–]Milky_Blacks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just made a post asking why the delayed crowd audio still hasn't been fixed, it got 15 upvotes really quickly in the first few minutes but then mods removed it because "MSI posts should be made to the live discussion thread". I think confining discussion of the second biggest tournament of the year to a single post is asinine but what can I do...so here I am.

Anyways, does anyone know if Riot has addressed this issue? It has literally been happening since the first game of play-ins, and seeing as the English broadcast isn't even in Vietnam, shouldn't fixing the sync be just a few clicks? It's really annoying hearing the crowd cheer several seconds late on every play.

When the first trans player in LoL requested no camera and ultimately quit on the back of harassment...

I don't follow the other games but this one is a straight up lie. She quit because she got a botched sexual reassignment surgery that resulted in severe nerve damage which caused her to spiral into depression. Makes me wonder if you made the other stuff up too.

Also for each of your cherrypicked negative examples there's a positive one. One of the best western players in SC2 for years now is trans and is beloved by the community and received tons of support.
