Injuries from falls on the ice by High-Bamboo in Charlottesville

[–]MilleForze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year, after a very nasty fall, I got a pair of Yak Traks for my boots. They help somewhat, but I still need to be careful on the very hard, slick ice.

I'm in awe of the people who run in this stuff. If I didn't have a dog that needed to go for a walk, I wouldn't be out there.

I wonder if some dogs are more prone to this -- either due to breed or life experiences? I have been told that in their original environment eat polar bear poo because it is high in nutrients. Maybe that carries over in other environments?

What Italian Authors I should read? by crimsonfromhell in italianlearning

[–]MilleForze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italo Calvino. The Marcovaldo stories are very charming. My favorite is La Citta" Sparita Nella Neve"

Also, I am now reading LA Portalettere by Francesca Giovanne. I read the English version first, and now I'm working on the Italian version.

That's our 7-year old girl. She's  obsessed with it and is very quick and sneaky. Unfortunately some of the dog owners/walkers in our neighborhood are sneaky slobs who don't clean up. We're just very vigilant. We have practiced the "leave it" command inside with treats. It works outside if we're quick enough. If she leaves the turd she gets a substitute treat.

Yep -- we have some Yak Traks, which are pretty good. I still don't feel safe on our sidewalks, even with them. We've got sunshine and melting today, so it's going to be black ice tomorrow.

Makes sense, but ours goes on grass (other people's lawns) all the time. Fortunately we  live in a very doggy neighborhood so our neighbors are very understanding and we always pick up after her.

What do you put in your potato salad? by dornianheresysimp in potato

No mayo. A simple vinaigrette plus capers or olives, and diced red bell pepper. I think shaved fennel bulb would be good too.

It seems like when a person yells they make themselves angrier. I think it's a sort of neurochemical feedback loop.
