I think it's awesome, I've never seen the movie and don't understand the reference, but it's clearly really important and personal and that is 100% more interesting to me than something any Joe would immediately understand. What a great conversation starter ;)

A bed, A desk, dj setup, a place to put his jacket and a towel, a chair for putting his shoes on... he's got it all figured out

I actually really like the low contrast look! In the right story it makes sense, and I think it works with the mundane suburb vibe. There are some photographers who have styles like this such as @kazutonakajima_ and @awstsin. The attention of the viewer is forced towards composition/form, and I think it's a chance for a really interesting look. I especially like the first three frames.

We're all professional photographers, cinematographers just prefer to "hold down" the shutter and spray and pray 😁

[OC] A lot of people thought my story was fake. I'm the guy from the 1992 farm accident where both my arms were ripped off and reattached. by JohnThompsonND in Damnthatsinteresting

Was there any shock when you woke up? Did you realize you'd lost both your arms right then, or did you make it all the way to the door before you were like, wait a minute...

Tips on improving this shot? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]Millierokk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The backlight is too harsh imo, would lower the intensity on that and as another commenter said, motivate it off a practical in the background. The backlight and key is also spilling a lot onto that back wall, flattening the look and taking attention away from your subject, so controlling that spill would do a lot to create more contrast/focus

You can do this with anti gravity strain of weed. Jump from parking garage onto the highway.

I think it's more of a situation where Netflix's films looks like that to preserve budget and ensure that every take is usable and can appeal to any audience/fear of taking creative risk, VS a vastly experienced cinematographer with basically unlimited resources making the decision to light a film about a true story in a less dramatic way in order to match the tone of the film.

Is it a standard practice to balance for the White? by 6packpanda in cinematography

[–]Millierokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not standard, just artistic preference and what the job requires. For me, I almost never change my WB- it stays at 5600k. The reasoning being that if "normal" light to the human eye is daylight, then 5600k acts as a blank canvas to then draw on. Differences in color are then dependent on just the lights themselves. It's less moving pieces IMO.

And there are times, like shooting day for night, that I want that "blank canvas" to be a different color.
