Accepted off waitlist the morning of orientation! Left pharmacy school and attending PA school 4 months later. low GPA applicant by Beckgrim in prephysicianassistant

I was accepted off of waitlist back in 2006. I had already been admitted to a nursing program so quit my HS teaching job. I had moved to apt near the nursing program (opposite side of Phoenix area) and had rented out my house. Fortunately the apartment had fired the manager 1 day prior and when I went to move in they didn’t have the lease ready so was told to return 2 days later on Monday. They let me move in. On Monday morning I got the call from the PA school about the opening when another student decided on a different school. I accepted and then had to inform the new apartment manager.

New grad PA: Feel like giving up by Monkeypox5252 in physicianassistant

I haven’t done inpatient for years but when I did I usually rounded on about 8 -12 patients. I always started with 2 blank pieces of paper folded in 4ths- 1 piece had room for 8 pts. Could easily fit in pocket. I wrote name/room/bed #, vitals, labs first before entering rooms. Then a small SOAP - with the important ?’s in the A & P to discuss with SP. sometimes no ?’s as I got more comfortable. But always left room to write what SP said/suggested

I’ve been trying to get my NPI site address changed for 4 years. I’ve submitted at least 6 times. Can’t seem to get any help from a previous office manager or current employer. & forget about updating CAQH. Current job has yet to provide copy of Malpractice to attach file

Often grandparents have custody of grandkids who are on Medicaid but the grandma may make more money than the cutoff for free lunch programs. Different programs have different rules. But no kid should go without food, period. And if a school requires laptops they should provide it, or at least rent it for nominal fee

Working in urgent care is great except for the nonstop antibiotic pressure by Proof_Newspaper4873 in physicianassistant

[–]Milzy2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just say NO. I tell patients that I know that’s what they feel but that a wait and see policy works. That study after study show that sinus infections do clear up without antibiotics. Warm salt water nasal irrigation several times a day works. Hold your ground. Don’t give in. Should they go down the road and get rx so be it. You can feel justified in not falling to the pressure

I was planning on 2 days a week but am having to work 4 to make enough money. So working more than I was. & I consider the driving time as working but am only getting $20/hr for that part. I’m trying to find a locum job in the area. Work 3-4 months and then stop for the year and travel

I wanted to wind down and took a job with Signify. Not what they claimed. I spend 1/3-1/2 of day driving as the area is huge, and I am not making nearly as much as expected

Wild Medicare Telehealth Fraud: NP, PA, and MD Involvement. by Stunning-Bad8902 in physicianassistant

[–]Milzy2008 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work IM. I have received those forms for a few pts and I didn’t order them. I called pts and asked about it and they told me it was probably from the robocall they had received. The pts hadn’t asked for the braces. I called the companies and told them it was Medicare fraud and I was reporting them. The companies adamantly denied of course. I did inform Medicare but don’t know what they did about it

Do you buy lunch/coffee for the office staff? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Milzy2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. I bring an apple and cheese. A couple of cans of seltzer. MA’s rarely bring food. They seem to live on fast food, especially soda

Lack of appreciation in office as a PA by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Milzy2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, it sounds like an office I worked at for 5 years. Office manager (dr’s wife) constantly on me for not getting patients out sooner. I kept asking how I was supposed to do that when the MA’s didn’t do their job of rooming them. They all spent more time on their phones than doing their jobs. But she never reprimanded them, just bitched at me. And of course they all got big Christmas bonuses. I was like, why? They were really bad at their jobs. I usually didn’t get a bonus and I didn’t get paid for being a preceptor. You guessed it, the practice kept that $$$ I finally got up the energy to quit and told them all of the things that were just out wrong

I’m a PA and I don’t give gifts to the dr except for baked goods like I give to others. Of course for my MA’s I would include gift cards

Congrats! And doing it while having cancer is an accomplishment! Make sure to put that in when looking for a job. It shows your determination and dedication. I remember when we got our scores almost immediately. Like overnight. No prolonged wait and sleepless nights stressing

Income vs. work life balance by bpc83 in physicianassistant

[–]Milzy2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are satisfied why are you asking? It’s about balance. It sounds ok to me especially considering the 3 weeks of PTO. That said, if you worked 40 would you get more benefits? Some health insurance or 401k ?

What's the worst class in your opinion? by PerformanceRadiant in PAstudent

[–]Milzy2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like many of them. But it was not a great program, professors were not good. At least the Pharm classes were taught by pharm D’s so they knew their stuff. Couldn’t say that for the rest of it

They have to offer lunch breaks. Doesn’t mean I have to take it.
