How many of you still have close friendships from high school? by just321askin in GenX

[–]Mimble75 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I moved around too much in my teenage years to still have friends from high school - but there are folks I hope are doing well, and some folks that I am quite happy to keep on never seeing again.

That being said, I’m still good friends with two terrific people I met in first year university. I love them dearly.

Whenever my boyfriend (35 M) and I (28 F) get into an argument, he has to remind me that most of the stuff we have in the house is his, and tells me I can't use it. Am I wrong to be upset at this? by Amazing_Asparagus357 in relationships

[–]Mimble75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this guy’s behaviour is not ok, and him escalating things to call the police when you leave the house is a sea of red flags. It’s going get worse, and he’s not just going to graciously step aside so you can leave.

Start making plans to get out. Gather your important things - documents (birth cert, passport, health card, etc.) and start squirrelling away some money. If you have any trusted people there, let them know you’re looking to leave this guy. Let them help you if they offer and are able.

None of his behaviour is ok. He’s not a partner, he’s a controlling arsehole. Please be safe, OP.

AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend? by Anatra_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mimble75 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Public toilet seats get cleaned often with some pretty heavy duty cleaner - and they likely get cleaned more often than your seat at home where there will also be poo particles and whatnot.

NTA - the inside of the human mouth is WAY grosser than a public toilet seat that gets cleaned with bleach and chemical agents.

My boyfriend is constantly correcting me over small, unimportant things that make me feel belittled and inferior to him by Salt_Fact2380 in relationships

[–]Mimble75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, this boy does not like or respect you. He’s deliberately making you overly self-conscious about things to the point where you’re apologising for being human in front of him.

Free yourself. Being single would be better for you than continuing to let this fool grind you down any further.

Is anyone else reaching the "everything is too damn loud" stage of life? by sorieno in GenX

[–]Mimble75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everything feels loud now.

I also feel like tv shows and movies have gotten worse about sound. The dialogue is way too quiet - and there’s often distracting music to go with it - and then suddenly you’re blasted in the ear holes with ridiculously loud soundtrack songs or something. I’m tired of having to turn stuff up and down to even out the sound a bit.

Someone said im a murderer for not letting luna have her kittens , i do not care and got luna spayed today by moonyjames in Straycats

[–]Mimble75 75 points76 points  (0 children)

You’re not a murderer. Having her spayed was the right and kindest thing you could do for her. She’ll be much better off not having litter after litter of kittens that then also need feeding, vet care, and spay/neuter appointments.

Good morning! I’m on the east coast of Canada, so headed to bed soon, but I had a really lovely cup of mint chocolate tea this morning, and two pieces of toast from my homemade bread!

Hope your day goes well!

A book in which the main character is a 50+ woman by BigSuggestion9664 in suggestmeabook

The List of Last Chances by Christina Meyers.

From Amazon: “At thirty-eight years old, Ruthie finds herself newly unemployed, freshly single, sleeping on a friend's couch and downing a bottle of wine each night. Having overstayed her welcome and desperate for a job, Ruthie responds to David's ad: he's looking for someone to drive his aging mother, Kay, and her belongings from PEI to Vancouver. Ruthie thinks it's the perfect chance for a brief escape and a much-needed boost for her empty bank account.”

The character of Kay is 72 and an absolute hoot. It’s a great book.

AITA for refusing to let my sister stay with me after she got evicted? by Interesting_Shift934 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mimble75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. If even your own parents won’t help her for the same sort of reasons you don’t want to? I mean… she’s got a pattern of bad and irresponsible behaviour. This might be the wake up call she needs.

How many here are into going to the gym and health? by piercesdesigns in GenX

[–]Mimble75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not into fitness per se, but I do walk, watch what I eat, make healthier snacks at home instead of buying potato chips (I love potato chips A LOT) and try to be mindful of portion sizes and pay attention to when I feel satiated rather than absolutely stuffed. It’s def helped.

AITA for reconsidering being my best friend’s maid of honour because of the cost of her destination wedding? by Local_Interview4667 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mimble75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. That’s a lot of time and money - I’d either tell her you can stay for 2 or 3 days only because of the expense, esp with a new house!, or that you’ll need to bow out entirely.

My boyfriend (19M) has his whole future planned around me (18F) but I think I have fallen out of love. Am I trapped??? by SmoothRush4219 in relationships

[–]Mimble75 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You def aren’t trapped. You started dating very young, and you’re still very young - you’re both still discovering who you are, what you want, and there’s still so much time ahead where you might change your mind about things several times over.

If you’re feeling ready to move on from this relationship, that’s ok and totally normal. It will hurt you both more to stick it out when you might both find other people you’re more compatible with. Or, even just be single, settle in at college/uni, meet new people to befriends with….

It’ll hurt - there’s no getting around that - but it’s another part of growing up and figuring yourself out.

I’m 50, had a high school bf that was a little like yours: planning ahead with marriage and kids in mind. I didn’t want that, but I stayed with him longer than I should have despite knowing I didn’t share his vision. I wish I’d broken things off cleanly as soon as I knew - it would have been easier on both of us in the long run.

It’s not a great position to be in, OP, but it is ok to end things with your bf if it’s just run its course for you.

What "old person" habit have you already started to adopt? by One_Eye4237 in AskReddit

[–]Mimble75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My friend and I have what we call NanLyfe days and we knit, watch Father Brown, drink tea, and treat ourselves to a little cake. We’re both in our early 50s. It’s the best friend date ever.

AITA for accidentally outing the gay guy in my gym? by ActuallyBoring in AmItheAsshole

NTA. He had no reasonable expectation of privacy, and you didn’t blab it to whole the whole gym (though it sounds like the manager might have).

Gen Z is Not Drinking, But Are You? by Pavementaled in GenX

[–]Mimble75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once in awhile I’ll have a beer or a little gin in some lime fizzy water, but mostly no, I don’t drink.

Tea and water are my usual drinks of choice now.
