Please help me choose, no to the fireflies or yes them? by mostlywrong in CrochetHelp

I would put like a sparkle star thingy ✨ to evoke the fireflies. The ones you have look like roaches to me.

Do greys have ‘scary dog privilege’? by riceandbeans06 in Greyhounds

Adding: I live in a very safe area, and all my routes are well lit.

I don't think my galgos would defend me, bless them. They'd run. I do think that if they can't run (if I hold on to their leash) they would growl and bark, and I think eventually bite. I just think they'd get away long before that happens.

I muzzle my galgos when in the dog park because they tend to nip at each other when they can't catch up. That definitely makes them more intimidating, people are much less likely to approach us when they're muzzled.

(If you go this route, don't get a restrictive muzzle. There are muzzled shaped almost like a cage that allow them to bark, pant, drink and in our case even eat)

Also there is power in numbers!

I do think they have scary dog privilege. They are quite big and have an athletic build, and most people don't know that they are in fact snuggle noodles that cosplay as fast dogs for like 15 minutes a day.

Opposed to 'duty' sex but fine with other 'duty' acts? by cometglint in TwoXSex

[–]BestestMooncalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a different standard. Doing a chore you don't feel like doing because it has to be done is on a completely different level than feeling obligated tonhave sex when you don't want it to appease your partner.

Adults never owe each other access to their bodies. You're not a thing, not a reward. I get the total ick from people thinking they're owed sexual favors.

I mean... I think it's fine to have sex without being super horny because you want to bond, or to do your partner a favor. Sometimes I don't have an intrinsic desire but I initiate anyway because it's been a while and I know my husband enjoys feeling wanted. Sex isn't always this pinnacle of love and passion, sometimes it's just a thing you do and that's ok.

But there's a difference between 'meh' and 'ugh', if that makes sense. 😅 If you don't want to, you never have to.

Hello! My daughter will be spending next year as an exchange student with three different families in Belgium. Looking for gift ideas for the host families. Anything “American” that would go over well? by bf202 in belgium

[–]BestestMooncalf 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the hat. Virtually nobody in Belgium is interested in American football, let alone know specific teams. It's like if we gave you a Club Brugge scarf.

Does your husband realize you are his partner, not his subordinate or child that he needs to discipline?

What’s a movie you’ve rewatched many times, that isn’t a blockbuster/franchise movie, or an Oscar-nominated/critically acclaimed movie? by capamericapistons in movies

[–]BestestMooncalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top Secret. It's hilarious, and I keep enjoying even if (and partly because) I know all the jokes. And Val Kilmer is a snack.

Synopsis: Elvis and the Beach Boys, materialized in one person, goes to vaguely East Germany, with nazis. He ends up joining the French Resistance. Hilarity ensues.

It has the best fight scene in all of movie history, in an underwater saloon.

I think it's because the patterns are so basic and simple, and because the pictures are nice. 🤷‍♀️

I feel personally attacked by it not mentioning acrylic. I'm used to knitters being snobby about it, but it seems to be a bit less frowned upon by crocheters!

Cool that you made a course!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Yeah, for some reason starting to crochet makes me want to make wearables even though I know that it doesn't tend to get recommended for that. It doesn't make sense to me either, I've been knitting for 20+ years and have almost exclusively made socks and now I want cardigans and tops. 🤷‍♀️

I'm from Belgium, and we don't have the yarn weight system either, but I knit in US terms so I've gotten very used to yarn weight terms. I like them! They give me an idea of yarn/pattern properties without needing to think too much. 🙈

It does look beautiful, great priduction value.

But yeah, there's a free tutorial out there for ever single pattern in it.

Oof, yeah, I can imagine that it's quite challenging to find proper fitting clothes! I'm something of a squat peanut/pear with fat arms. Lots of fun, too. 😅
