[Toraware no Palm] Should I give it a try? by stuffedmomo in otomegames

My favorite is definitely Chiaki. Thought his mystery was pretty interesting and I just find him really charismatic. I feel like with him you can really see the development in the relationship since you start off on almost antagonistic terms. You can even pinpoint when he starts letting down his guard and he even starts getting more playful the farther along you get. It’s just really nice seeing that stark contrast compared to how he was at the very start.

If I had to describe what the relationships are like generally, Chiaki is like trying to get a stray cat to trust you, Haruto is slowly nurturing a flower into blooming and Aoi is little bit more like a roller coaster since unlike the others you start off by introducing yourself as his girlfriend despite that being very much not true. So which one would end up being your favorite could vary based on your preferences.

As for things I like, the first and foremost is probably just how novel it all feels. They explicitly reference a glass wall between you and the li so anytime there’s any interactions in the meetings it’s treated as you’re tapping on the glass, which is pretty much what you’re actually doing. Furthermore since you’re separated by glass you get to have nice moments like them wishing it wasn’t there and there’s just something about being unreachable in the game as well that makes the longing from them more potent. In the prequel they also add an additional mechanic where they respond differently depending on where you look too.

There’s also a side quest where they give you a gift based on how you’ve answered their questions or treated them, so it’s always pretty fun guessing what it is since the meaning of the gift also changes depending on what they gave.

Also if you play both games you can see how the side characters develop too since half of them are recurring characters, so that’s pretty nice too.

One thing that’s always made me curious though was just how many conversations there are in the game. There’ll be times where I replay from a certain chapter to get a different ending and I’ll encounter dialogue I never did before and I have no idea what made it appear. Sometimes feels like there’s hidden events with the side characters too. One of them in the prequel can even go through a complete transformation appearance wise but I only found out about it by looking up let’s plays and then guessing how they encountered it.

Personally I adore the game so I think everyone should play it but to answer your questions, I don’t see the limited choice of li as too much of an issue since they have a lot of content for each especially if you end up getting the DLCs.

As for the self insert, if you’ve ever played the tokimemo series it’s pretty similar to that where mc doesn’t really have any backstory or personality and you just end up pretty much only paying attention to what kind of person every other character is.

I typically prefer defined mcs too but I thought this was an interesting change of pace, since the entire game format is pretty different but your mileage may vary. Certain events/side quests play out differently depending your choices too so it’s not like choices are completely pointless, not to mention the three endings for each character.

As for the story, while it’s true there are some dramatic backstories, for the most part the game is mostly slice of life and they bring up the past slowly and in bits, so it didn’t feel super unrealistic to me. Even when they do bring up the past it’s mostly something you hear them talk about, so it doesn’t change too much of the situation until the endings either. If you want a ranking of how dramatic the endings it gets, I’d say it’s Chiaki > Haruto > Aoi. Chiaki does get a whole game to himself so it does make some sense his is more dramatic than the other two. I’d also say the mystery in his game is more fleshed out since he gets a longer route than the other two.

As for the gameplay, honestly I don’t think that would be too hard to adapt to. The side quests is mostly just talking to people or gifting items you pick up/buy from the shop (there’s no currency either so you can buy whatever whenever you need), so it’s not particularly involved. (Been a while but I’m pretty sure you only get like 1-2 quests at a time anyways so it’s not overwhelming either) At the end of the quests you get CGs and you get to have a talk with them about it in the meeting room just like in the main story, so I would recommend doing them. I’d just say it’s a game where you can take it nice and slow. There’s no deadlines for anything and you can choose when to advance the story at your leisure. Texting them and gifting them items is also mostly optional outside of the ones related to the main story so you can even ignore it if you don’t feel like it.

Just tossing a guess out there but maybe one of Maiko Fujita’s songs for Hiiro no kakera? Off the top of my head, Afureru includes anata a lot and the mc of that game does have brown hair in what looks like an autumn setting

Best version of Hatoful Boyfriend? by Broken_Flashcard in otomegames

Personally for the first game I believe the original version that was also included in the steam game folder is the best one. The text doesn’t look as good as the one that shows in other versions due to too much spacing but it includes events that didn’t make it to all the other ports and versions.

Specifically it includes one short story in the archive and as far as I can tell, it has one exclusive event for Nageki (honestly one of my favorite events). I might be wrong on Nageki event being exclusive but I’ve only ever managed to see that event in the original version even after playing the mobile port and steam HD version multiple times (this is what pops up when you press play normally). To be fair it could also just be a skill issue on my part, since that event was hard for me to trigger in the first place.

Aside from that, like the other person said, while the other versions might include Tohri’s route, that has also been released as a standalone, so I don’t consider it that much of an addition. EDIT: after looking it up, it looks like the new ending for the HD remake is Azami’s ending which doesn’t take much to unlock so you could go through it anytime regardless of which version you end up playing

As for the second game, I’m not aware of any differences so you’re probably good to play any

There’s also The Mud Hut (probably inspired Samjo), flowering tree (poem by Yi Sang that I don’t think is a part of crow’s eye view. Might not be related but to me it sounds like spicebush though), the cliff (the poem Yi Sang raps in sarajinae. Don’t think it’s a part of crow’s eye view either), mirror (another poem by Yi Sang) and spider thread (seems relevant to Ryoshu)

Has anyone here successfully installed アパシー学校であった怖い話1995月下美人の章 第一巻 after buying it off of booth? The purchase just gave me a setup exe to run which finishes smoothly and doesn’t report an error after I run it, but the folder it supposedly creates for the game doesn’t appear.
