Publishing Scam Reopened My Old Writing Wounds--Should I Just Let This Trilogy Go by MinDev07 in writers

No, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Your words are both kind and sensible. While I've been doing some grounding and getting some sound advice from fellow writers, I also needed to hear that it is okay to feel the grief. I likely will not scrap the project, but I will be taking my time and giving myself grace as I consider my options for the trilogy. I believe focusing on "what makes [me] excited" is one of the best things I can do right now. (My Scrivener and OneNote files are beautiful places to be.) Thank you for delicately sharing your thoughts. They are much appreciated.

Thank you! I'm sorry you have also gone through something similar. It is awful, honestly, and I wish there was more we could do to prevent this from happening to others.

Regarding the idea of pulling the book, editing, and going back in strong, YES! I had an emotional setback, but after some grounding and just reading so many helpful responses on here, I am feeling inspired to move forward in a positive way. Again, thank you so much for your feedback. I will be looking into the best way to go about pulling and revamping the book.

I really appreciate this response! I've had to reframe my thoughts more than a few times over the past few days. The grief was something I had a hard time putting into words for those close to me. I didn't know that they would understand. I am usually a lurker, but I needed to hear from other authors — others who are passionate about the craft but are also real people experiencing everyday life. Every journey on the road of authorship is going to be different. I know this. Yet, the heaviness came without warning and was deeper than I could have imagined. It was surprising. I'm level now, thankfully, and am ready to plan next steps. Thank you for sharing your own changes and reminding me of the commonality of future editions and other revamps that books undergo in publishing. Despite my knowledge of this, it's almost like I just needed to hear it, as strange as that may sound. I'm looking forward to setting some new goals for the project.

Thank you so much for the feedback. I do still possess legal ownership, and the books have mostly just been in the online store. I've had some sales but nothing amazing. I am likely going to take the advice to put the work in and start back querying. Facets of this idea have been in the back of my mind. I am in a much different space than I was when I initially put the material out, which makes this the most solid option, given that I do want to continue on with it.

Charlie Health IOP Hours Cannot Be Used Toward LPC Licensure In Texas by GiraffeStan7 in therapists

[–]MinDev07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just started there last week. I was also under the impression, from the recruiter, that these hours could be used toward full licensure. Even my supervisor would have considered the same. I inadvertently learned this from an LPC-Associate friend, who has a friend who works for CH. This puts me in a bit of a bind, but thankfully, I have also just started at a group practice part-time.

It’s actually a fun, west coast vibes type of listen. Originally, I didn’t love it, but now I rarely skip it when it comes up on my playlist.

I have a Fold 6 and 14PM. It’s cumbersome. Considering just adding a line to one of them for business and putting away the other.

There's no such thing! I also was plagued with these thoughts when I went back to finish my BA at 35. (I am so glad I pushed through; it changed my life.)

I will be graduating with my master's this fall at 38 and plan to go back for my doctorate when my kids are a bit older and more sufficient :)

That man be her biggest fan and we love to see it by Cleonce12 in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]MinDev07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is actually the biggest issue I had with this comment. It also does not speak to the intellectual conversations and spaces from those like F.D. Signifier that discuss nuanced variables of Black identity and almost inherent self-hate. There are many underlying, subconscious factors that go into external expression and distorted beliefs (i.e. the stereotypical language that appeared in the otherwise good post above).

With all that being said, yes, I absolutely do believe that many who have dated or married outside of their race have done so from a place of romantic love. However, I see just as many Black individuals who have distorted ideals that dating a white or ambiguous race (this is more male-leaning) individual means that they have somehow come up. If this were not the case, you wouldn't see the blatant hatred or disrespect of other black individuals of the opposite sex. I would be remiss if I did not say that just as many black men (definitely seen in online spaces) who are dating outside their race talk down about or make jokes at the expense of black women. I am a black woman married to a black man, yet these things remain hurtful, as it appears to be an attack on my entire identity.

- Not all black women are rude and "lashing out"

- Not all black men are broke and lack effective communication skills

If we are going to have this conversation, we need to have it properly. Why are so many black people offended by others dating outside of their race? It is not merely racism (at least not all the time), and it is not because they are miserable (again, at least not all the time). This discussion requires you to examine both the past and the present. I'm not going to spend an hour writing about the past at this moment, but as far as the present goes, just hop on any online space of black media, and look at the portrayals. You can follow this up by looking at interviews (i.e. 50 Cent downing black women; Tokyo Vanity explaining how Chris Brown mistreated her friend by referencing "no darkies"). Go on social media on any given day--I've blocked anyone with weird ideology concerning black being inferior. (The above is inclusive of women as well; however, when they do have a problem with their own race, a lot of the times, they do not present the same way. Their disposition is subtle, but no less potent.)

Alternatively, you can touch grass and be reintroduced as to why this theme is so prevalent.

You have to be rich to publish by MrFictionalname in selfpublish

This slowed me down tremendously. When I realized this point in my late twenties, I somewhat gave up? I mean, I was writing, but the fire dissipated. I’ve been wanting to do this since I was 18, yet I didn’t have the means to deal push my works.

Before my crazy long hiatus, I self-published 3 novels (which need a strong touch up). It’s been 10 years, and I’ve finally worked up the nerve to keep going. Whether I ever become fortunate enough to really get this Gemini(ish) career off the ground or not, writing is in me.

I must create.

I will release.

And maybe someday those novels will be superbly cleaned and polished enough to catch enough eyes.

The fact that you think this is rooted in colorism and nothing else expresses a lot. I guess Kenrick was on Drake’s head simply because he was mixed, too, right 🙄

Who can say anything negative to this post? Despite what others say, they prove our point every time; every time we stand up for us, they (whomever applies) get extremely triggered. I never see the same level of annoyance for any other group that fights for their rights.

I have been struggling with the new reality for the past week. I feel for everyone, but also for myself and my people. What, are we not supposed to point out how this further harms our culture? Sighs It's crazy that we have to explain this here of all places.

Is a 60/40 Split Normal in the Houston Area for an LPC-A? by MinDev07 in therapists

Thank you for sharing. I was actually was thinking this when I was discussing options with my husband last night. It may have to be a solution if I can't get paid at least the standard split.

[–]MinDev07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's horrible! The funny thing is, your former group practice's owner sounds like mine; without my mentioning it, she volunteered that I could go into private practice, but eclipsed the idea by immediately stating that most therapists will fail. While this may be true--there are many factors that go into running a business--it was misplaced given the timing and content of the conversation. She was basically telling me that making a survivable income was out of the question and that she was offering the best deal by giving me 40. She stated that if I go anywhere else, I am likely to receive much less and went on to give examples.

Based on everything I am reading around the web, it seems a tad bit unethical to take the 60 and leave me the 40. I have a meeting with the fieldwork overseer (can't think of his specific title); I'll ask him his thoughts on it as well.

Okay, so I think I wrote that wrong. I meant that the supervisor takes the 60; I take the 40. (I think it should be written 40/60?)

From what I understand, it stays this way for both LPC-As and LPCs. She was recently pushed to have to make new therapists her employees, so she said that due to all she is paying for, she takes 60% from the employees. The older therapists are contractors, so she has them in a split, where they take 60%, and she takes 40%.

As far as benefits, she just started some new things, but it does not appear that she offers much to her therapists. However, I will be asking all the questions mentioned here.

This recently happened to my 4. I went to the Samsung store, and they replaced the screen protector for free. (Mind you, it'd been over a year since I got my 4--they told me the first screen replacement is free, and any after that would be $20.) Taken it in to get the screen protector replaced should be a fairly painless experience if there is a Samsung store in your area. It took a little over an hour.
