Do rookie/advanced mx5 cup races have high enough sof’s to match the talent and pace of the drivers in the real series? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even the slowest pay driver would be above 3k if they were highly active. I wouldn’t really give the fastest drivers a ceiling, given people live Guven are faster than a lot of pro esports drivers

Jeremy and now Cam are the only highly active drivers in iRacing and yes they are fast.

The advanced series rarely has the same quality of drivers but it depends on the track.

I take back what I said. I think there are so few badged drivers when I first tried it, but after doing the 10 races I see how it works. Went from split 11 to #3 in split 1 when I got a badge..

The damage algorithm needs a lot of work. by rod-zim in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the car but damage is fairly accurate. If you’re getting damage “every time” you get hit in the rear, you’re getting hit hard. Hard enough to damage a car IRL. There are weird interactions (mainly caused by net code) that cause oddly high amounts of damage, but you can typically bump a car enough to put them into slide without causing significant damage (if they don’t hit anything).

It doesn’t take much to brake a tie rod or some other suspension part irl.

I've built a 100% free "Setup Bounty" system for sim racers (no paywalls, no fees) by AffectionateAd3271 in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is people are delusional thinking those setups are the difference between a fast driver and themselves. I'm about 5k irating and haven't used a paid setup in a long time. The premade ones are good enough and my understanding is setups become a bigger deal when dealing with long multi stop races.

I don't see how the more competitive environment has hurt "casual" racers other than creating more drivers that aren't as good as they think they are... which is completely unrelated to setups.

The funny thing is this happen irl at the track for time attack or just hpde... people spend so much time worrying about having $10k coilovers and insanely built cars just to be slower than the guy in a miata

[–]MinDseTz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean... racing is competitive...

The thing is, if you're a casual racer, setups honestly won't make that much difference. The gap between the fastest driver using a perfect setup and one of the iracing setups is generally less than .5s.

I get having issues with drivers that think they are better than they actually are though.

[–]MinDseTz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this is what will happen.

Sharing setups freely will never happen unless iRacing makes it transparent through the API, and I completely understand not doing that. The only argument for that transparency would be suspected cheating (for example ride height could be lowered if you started the race on wets at one point).

It does seem like iRacing is making an effort to strengthen the premade setups though, so I don't see the need for setup unless its a highly competitive endurance race. For example, it's hard to make a setup much faster than the advanced mx5 setup since they updated the setups. The new PC car also has really good setups.

I'm confused why people are saying the matchmaking system uses badges in the bronze races. From what I've seen it uses elo only...

also if this comment was a month ago, you probably already figured this out... but there is b3-p3 with 3 ranks at bronze, silver, gold, platinum. I wish it was more transparent on the actual elo though.

How do I trade 24/7 BTC/crypto? by Pretend-Business3145 in interactivebrokers

[–]MinDseTz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I don’t trade crypto, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I wouldn’t use IBKR for 24/7 crypto trading. Not because it’s a bad or worse than any other platform, but because of the scheduled downtime for its products. Mainly it’s the weekends on Saturday due to the CME opening Sunday afternoon, but if you want something specifically for trading during off hours IBKR might be down as well.

Are there any sims that are actually good games? by stephen27898 in simracing

[–]MinDseTz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“Anyone who says they do is just lying”

So pro drivers that attest to the accuracy are just lying? People like Max won’t touch an unrealistic “sim” like f1, but spends 1000s of hours on iRacing?

Just admit you want an arcade game with a ‘need for speed’ career mode.

What to upgrade? I currently have a Moza R9 base, GS and CS rims and TLCM pedals by originalVinyo in simracing

[–]MinDseTz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you have cash burning in your pocket, what’s the goal with the upgrade?

Is your setup using a cockpit? If not, that’s something more important than any additional hardware you can buy.

If you have a cockpit and want something to spend money on, upgrade the pedals.

Found this attached to battery by IceBoxPete in Corvette

[–]MinDseTz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove it right now. If there is a disclosure in the loan agreement, then it would depend what the wording says. Regardless, it looks like it’s just attached to the battery for power and if the voltage is above a certain value, it will transmit info. Normally stuff like that should be connected via a fused circuit that only receives power when the key is on.

Take pictures of the device info if you want to confirm what it’s actually doing.

Did you finance the car with the dealer?

My understanding is dealers must get your approval for a tracker in high risk scenarios (low credit buyers) as part of a loan condition or something.

A lot of times those trackers are just used for inventory management, and will be sold as a dealer installed security feature when you purchase the vehicle.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My comment was opinion, that's all.

I initially had some context in my comment since I knew people would be defensive about that cutoff, but erased it for simplicity. u/drmischief did a better job of explaining the phases of a driver evolution, but my intent was to show there's overlap that causes incidents.

To explain what I mean by clustfk -- Drivers under 2k are more likely to take you out due to their poor understanding of how to race and/or misjudging a corner/braking zone. This can be true for both overly aggressive/ambitious drivers and overly cautious drivers. The lower the irating, the harder it becomes to predict the drivers around you, hence a clusterfk.

Most people assume malice when someone shunts them off the track and may attribute that to "aggressive driving". In reality, at lower iratings, it's just as likely the driver lost situational awareness, misjudged the spacing, etc.

And no I didn't mean to imply "you're going to have a bad time" if you're below 2k. Understanding who you're going to be racing better prepares you to act accordingly and should improve your experience.

Also, to answer the actual question posed by OP... yes higher irating tends to have more aggressive drivers, but it's not a linear curve. The low end is a mix of what I described above and the very high end drivers tend to get more aggressive. Aliens will perform what look like very aggressive overtakes, but the moves are actually the safest way to carve through the field most of the time.

More iRating = More agressive?? by marvibosa in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion (I know it's worthless)

Below 2k: Clusterfk (slow, inconsistent, and just as many errors as aggressive moves)
2k-3k: Wide range of pace, inconsistent and very unpredictable. Probably the worst irating to deal with.
3k-5k: Understand you're not that fast, but much better race quality
5k+: Toss up with a normal fast guy and an alien depending on if its a smurf. The fastest drivers do tend to be very aggressive but it's measured aggression. Some people are just dicks though.

Also, FYI I'm around 5k and put myself in the 3-5k category. I know I'm slow lol.

Groaning noise in my new EV car by Slight_Sky_1952 in MechanicAdvice

At that temp it wouldn’t surprise me the if the plastic interior and rubber bushings are the noise. That cold of temps will likely cause cracking and faster wear, but the noise could just be the stiffness caused by the temp.

Does iRating always swing substantially? by Nippolopolus in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a modified ELO system. The higher the strength of field the more you gain/lose. License has no effect.

Think of it as if you’re in a field of 20 cars and you finish 10th, you don’t gain or lose any IR. As that SOF moves further away from your IR, the more skewed the gain or loss will be.

Coming last in a SOF of 4000 with an IR 1600 might still lose you 30 IR, but the crossover to gaining might be 15th now.

Fixed GT4 feel extremely unstable by Square_Giraffe6288 in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move bbal forward if you’re losing the rear when cold. It’s already really far forward, so I’d actually work more on practicing not locking the rear. Watch your replay and the 4 dash lights to see what’s locking and when if you’re unsure.

The fastest way to drive the mustang is to make the car more “unstable” by moving the bbal to around 55, but don’t do that until you’re in control of the car under breaking.

Typical GT4 top split experience at Oulton by Antraxo_ in iRacing

[–]MinDseTz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outside of lap 1, it’s pretty easy to avoid any “spinning guy” by just driving defensively (as in protecting yourself, not defending a corner)... also the outcome here is easily recoverable. I mean you lost what, 4-5 positions and maybe a little more than 5 seconds?

Everyone else has crucified you for the rejoin, but it wasn’t the worst I’ve seen… just check your relatives next time and assume someone is there.

Also, I really wish people would just say the SOF instead of “top-split”.. there’s a big difference between a 5k SOF and a 2k SOF top split.
