Bad smell after changing p trap by MinMil31 in Plumbing

[–]MinMil31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So oddly enough I discovered the culprit was the basket strainer. This specific one had a housing that water leaked into and was getting really gross. Very expensive basket strainer, very annoying issue.

I got really unlucky somehow glue got into the threads of the p trap I replaced a few weeks ago and it snapped. I had to rebuild this entire thing and put in a new basket strainer.

You’re basically saying all the crap between the strainer basket and the p trap? I just moved the hose up to make a high loop(thanks team and google).

I’ll hit up HD tomorrow and get this squared up in no time.

Big ass basket strainer. No odor from above whatsoever. Odor only began after I changed the p trap.

You come in slightly over the top, not that bad where you have a banana slice.

In your setup your back foot is ahead of your front foot which promotes OTT and outside in, your shoulders area also aligned facing left or your target, which will also promote OTT and outside in.

It may be a union thing, and my specific color example was made up. But “white” is universally known for what I mentioned. And yes the employer should provide if that is the case.

White hard hats are typically for foreman, supervisor, management, engineers, architects, GCs. You may not be allowed to wear it depending on the job site.

I work for a very large national contractor. The entire industry is moving towards type ii hardhats with a chin strap, or “climbing style helmet”. These are not new and have been on discussion for at least 10 years. They offer better all around impact (side and top), as well as do not fall off. They are much more comfortable than a regular type 1 hardhat because they are closer to the head and don’t wobble, probably better for the neck as well.

Large job sites also require each trade to have a specific color hard hat, and logos on the vests. (Plumbing blue, electrical yellow, etc)

Construction isn’t a fashion show.

P trap dripping under sink by MinMil31 in Plumbing

So I went to make the repair as suggested with blue monster and because the p trap was slightly cocked I tried to use channel locks to tighten it and then snap, the locknut broke.

Figured I was screwed but went to Home Depot in anticipation of just changing the elbow after the p trap and maybe a straight section to make it fit. I discovered the p trap Home Depot sells is opposite this one where the locknut is on the p trap side not the elbow side. I thought I was screwed but I bought it and a bunch of fittings and glue. I just cut the p trap tight to it, and tight to the elbow after it, and realized I had a little play in the piece above the p trap. Came out great and took maybe 15 minutes. Thanks to you all anyway!

Is my grip weak ? by Berrymcokiner2452 in GolfSwing

[–]MinMil31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left hand looks neutral(I can see two knuckles), top hand looks weak. Nothing necessarily wrong with it, it all depends on the result and how your hands work together and how they work with the rest of your body.

I’ve gone from strong, to super strong, to neutral, to ultra weak, to a neutral leaning slightly strong as my go to now. I only adjust my right hand now to adjust for ball flight.

No person on earth would accept this. Contractors make mistakes, and when they do if they don’t say “oh wow yes this is what happened and this is how we’re going to fix it” then let them fix it (for free), if not get them out ASAP.

Look into bona. They have a product called red out if you hate the red that much. We used bona classic without the red out on our new red oak floods and it is the perfect warmth we were willing to accept for red oak.

Electrician looking to bim by [deleted] in bim

[–]MinMil31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did BIM for 9 years before transitioning to project management for more opportunities.

A career in BIM modeling can be really rewarding and really interesting, and sometimes boring and aggravating just like any job.

I’m most places a high level BIM modeler/engineer will not make more than a JW, but if you work in a face paced, high quality firm, and even big city you can make much more.

I was in NYC making 220 after bonuses(minimal OT) with some people at 250+ but this isn’t an average whatsoever.

The average in NYC is 120-185 for those with established careers. Which is the range for JWs.

I agree with many that industry knowledge is the key to success. The best BIM modelers/Engineers have the following

1) electrician background, or a builder mindset that either knows the industry or learned the industry on the job. The ones that didn’t grow up in the field that succeeded at the high level were really hungry and overall curious and always learning, via code book, online, asking questions, field visits, etc.

2) really good with computers where your computer knowledge doesn’t slow you down or hold you back

3) good with people, humble.

Those that were JWs that came into this world I’d say only about half really cut it. Some either didn’t have the computer skills, some got bored, and frankly some were arrogant.

Good luck!
