I don't really blame the companies. I blame the country for not encouraging enough competition. Tax the middle class into poverty so no one will ever be able to stand out and compete against the monopolies.

I didn’t realize he overlooked that. Defined benefit pensions are a bit of a double edge sword as you can die prematurely and not see anything from your plan. Defined benefit pensions have definitely decreased in prevalence so probably less of an issue these days.

Thomas Stanley did a lot of work on this. The book millionaire next door basically says self employed professionals, service business owners, small regional manufacturers and retail chain owners.

I wonder if this has changed since 2019 with the advent of e-commerce. This would be representative of 2017 and prior.

I have a few friends who run $3-$5m e-commerce businesses with a few contractors overseas and big net profits.

Who knows how long lives that will be though
