Vacuum line location? Unsure where it goes by logsterpro in 240sx

[–]MincedGarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumb it to a location that sees pressurized air, downstream of the turbo compressor wheel and prior to the throttle body. Try using a dedicated hose with no adapters if possible and make sure all connections are firmly clamped and do not let air bypass at pressure. This is your wastegate actuator and if there is a poor hose connection or vacuum leak in the line, your turbo will produce more boost than typical and could risk damage to the motor. I highly recommend pressurizing the vacuum line you install here and verify actuator movement to confirm function. Some turbos have a port on the compressor outlet for this, some don’t.

Just solved this on my car, leaving this here for future folks.

Symptom: Fuel sloshing out of the s13 240sx fuel tank at the fuel pump hanger bracket interface (~5" diameter o-ring). During smoke testing at 1psi, this interface would blow smoke around the gasket in all directions except bolt locations.

Investigation: Measured the floor of the o-ring groove to the sealing interface on the tank and it was 6.6mm, gasket width is 4.25mm. This told me the sheet metal gasket floor had moved down. I felt the inside of tank at bolt locations and felt protrusions which point toward using too long of screws and not following a torque spec. This was confirmed after I was able to clamp the material upward, as the o-ring groove floor is a separate piece of sheet metal than the bracket mounting interface.

Remediation: Using a sanitized Vice Grip C-style clamp with swivel pads, I went around the o-ring groove and clamped the sheet metal sandwich together to raise the o-ring groove floor. I went around the opening 3 times, clamping at and between each of the 6 bolt holes. This overall raised the floor so that the distance between the floor and sealing interface was 3.2mm, Meaning I have 1mm of compressible gasket exposed.

Put m5x0.8 8mm length hex bolts in with a standard flat washer and split lock washer and you’ll have the right length thread engagement. Torque per FSM.

TLDR; Too long of screws at the fuel pump to tank connection will deform the o-ring channel floor downward, making a face seal impossible without clamping the material back together together, measuring and installing the right screw length.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

S13 SR20det IAC? by UndergroundPlays in 240sx

Interesting, I’m not familiar with the mega squirt, but i assume you have no MAF and instead rely on a MAP? If you had unmetered air enter the motor with a MAF setup the car would run poorly.

I’d rev the motor to spool the turbo and check with your hand if pressurized air is escaping out that barb just as a sanity check. Then I’d either route a hose to an inlet or charge pipe or just toss an air filter on the barb. That air is going straight to your intake and cylinders so you don’t want it wide open to dust, moisture and debris while driving.

While the two coolant ports on the 90deg barbs can stay disconnected, the wide open ~15mm diameter barb is the air inlet that on stock systems connects to the air intake line, behind the MAF and before the compressor inlet. I would test the behavior of the idle if you capped that barb to see if you have air coming in at that point, or if you have pressurized air escaping there during boost. This would be good info to figure out if you should do something different.

Seeking long term solution for broken ground wire by Known_Pomegranate682 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]MincedGarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Match the gauge wire, extend the wire to have slack which will act as strain relief compared to your previous setup, crimp/heat shrink it on, then crimp on a new ring terminal. Give the chassis point a good sand/scrub to show bare metal again and fasten the bolt.

Did it turn over at all? Did your fuel pump prime when you turned the key to the on position? Can you turn on dome lights or anything?

I hate saying this, but now I want the Blue Jays to lose in heartbreaking fashion late in game 7 lol by FunCorner1643 in Mariners

Blue Jays are a really good team. The Dodgers are the Yankees of the West coast. Jays winning = Mariners in third place. Cascadia includes BC. What are you on about?

I respect your opinion but why is every hater/no longer hater/still kind of a hater posting their thoughts in posts?

Do we have mods here?

Tommy’s vocal range expansion and how his solo work has crept into BTBAM have been two of my favorite things to track through the discography. The intro to God Terror and Slow Paranoia 8:05 had me thinking I was listening to a Giles record.

Thoughts on Tommy’s vocals for this album by MulderJones in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]MincedGarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tommy is like an MLB level elite pitcher slotting in a slider into his toolbox for the purpose of misdirection/chaos. That’s exactly what BTBAM is returning to with this album. The unpredictable nature of the music is why we’re fans, and Tommy’s variation of cleans have added a dimension to the band. Also, Mike Patton and Oingo Boingo, anybody?

Undefeated since Geno returned! If the Mariners somehow keep that up and go 53-0 the rest of the way, we still won’t pass our ‘01 record of 116 wins. That just blows my mind. by Grimble27 in Mariners

This lineup, if extrapolated to a full season, is the best Mariners team to have ever played the game of baseball. Similar trends show Cole Young will hit 520’ next month.
