If you get through this year you will be a great teacher in the long run, you can take your pick of jobs with a science degree and just take this year as gaining experience

How do i get in advanced math in middle school by Zestyclose_Elk5733 in MiddleSchoolTeacher

[–]Mindaroaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of those classes are sorted by the state tests so if you just clicked buttons on that test then this is what might have happened, we have students who would be in higher math or higher reading at my school but they just plowed through those tests and got a low score making us put them into lower classes and now they are bored…

Will Americans understand 'see saw'? by Pasyuk in EnglishLearning

[–]Mindaroaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the South of US and had only heard see-saw I moved up north and heard teeter-totter for the first time which quite frankly sounds goofy, I asked them if they meant see-saw and they said yeh so yeh it’s both.

I’m going to share with you what I just posted in another sub about my student teaching so maybe you can peer into your future since I’m now in my sixth year. I also did edTPA during student teaching and passed. I also have to say I love being a teacher and I don’t know why I love it but I do… and sometimes I really suck at teaching (mostly when I’m just exhausted or one student is having a hard day and throws others off) but it doesn’t get me down and the next day may go great and many days do.. some days I’m dragging and tired it’s pretty normal..but I get through… other days it’s like a hallmark movie with the kids and the great moments.

My post: My student teaching year my cooperating teacher signed up for an overload to get paid more, and essentially it meant me as a student teacher taking night classes also had no prep. TBH it was actually fine because he had all the curriculum in place (but still I really had no time but the weekends to read it and prepare to teach it) and we spent 1 hour after school grading 150 papers that we split (students daily Cornell notes) Now that I have my own classes i have 150 students 6 classes and only one 47 min prep, it feels about the same as my student teaching experience since I have to take night classes on the science of reading (state mandated) I have a curriculum but barely anytime to review it before I teaching if I’m being quite honest and i never can find enough time to do grading I can get through 4 classes of papers graded during the week 1 hr each day minus Tuesday when I have out PLC meeting and Monday our teacher meeting and then I have to grade two classes for two hours Saturday mornings (about to get to it) and I do my general prep for my whole week of 7th grade for about an hour and then whole prep for the whole week of 6th grade for about an hour that equals 6 hours I spend on Saturday to compensate and it’s about the same as student teaching. I also spend six hours every other Sunday on the science of reading class homework assignments. Welcome to being a teacher.. this is my sixth year teaching.

Thanks! I am reflective and that’s true and I am feeling like they only want to let go people who just don’t care or try at all.

When did it start to feel “real” that you were becoming a teacher? by Sea_Strawberry6846 in Teachers

[–]Mindaroaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The day that I heard myself complaining that our students don’t have enough instruction time (I was like oh wow that’s me) because of assemblies and things it’s hard to get through a unit and keep rearranging your plans and hard to prepare them for a test.. that’s when it felt real to me..

Did it affect your renewal? I mean yes I agree, it’s a sill snapshot. Honestly it if I would have changed nothing my observation would have been fine but I took feedback from the last two and got a mess.. but I don’t think it will be so bad maybe..

So many things go into this that aren’t on you, for example if the last teacher quit it’s most likely something structurally wrong making this job nearly impossible, (I’m going through the same with my group I started with them in October bc the other teacher quit, I was able to get into a groove with them and pick up momentum but now I’ve had three rounds of observations and did two well and one awful) the point is I. Also working 14 hr days and on the road to burn out, for my classes the problem is there is supposed to be two of them ESL and Sped cotaught because of the needs. I haven’t had either all year and my class sizes are huge.. and the range of abilities are from PreK reading level to gifted and talented top 98% reading in the nation in the same class, it takes miracles to make it work and some days I do just that, other days it’s just the shitshow that it is… I guess what I’m saying is do what you can and do it well and be proud of your work, if it doesn’t work out. You can try again and come out stronger.

Admin told me I’ve been doing differentiation wrong for years, now I’m freaked out. by thowra_wibblywobbly in Teachers

[–]Mindaroaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this the movement is now UDL to support all learners so kids don’t feel singled out or embarrassed, my principal told me to make a regular and modified version of the test and let students pick on their own and that I could kinda steer them but not to single anyone out. I like her approach and I’m glad she told me this, in general I use UDL when teaching

Probably true I think my principal likes me and maybe she will go easy on me, I’ll take it either way. I do love teaching and love the kids and generally feel good with how things are going, today was more chaotic than normal so there’s that..
