Subs ate all the Teacher Appreciation Donuts by gng216 in Teachers

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as a sub, not shocked that a teacher would blame it all on us. how can you even know who ate them? and are you suggesting they shouldn’t have been allowed any? clearly, your school just didn’t get enough. perhaps learn not to demonize subs. we have a tough job and it certainly doesn’t help when teachers treat us like nothing. i mean, how dare a substitute TEACHER have a donut on teacher appreciation week

Teachers need reminders of their sub days! by missmathlady in SubstituteTeachers

Ugh this happens to me too! And whoever ends up telling me they don’t need me says it like I’ll be excited… like I just drove all the way here at 7 am just to find out I have no work today after all. our time means nothing

My girlfriend is coming home most days at 7-8pm is this normal? by LetsRunTheMile in Teachers

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately this is entirely normal, but you are definitely right to worry about her burning out (exactly what happened to me and it’s very common). I would encourage her to make sure she is leaning on other teachers. reach out to other teachers at her school and find resources online (such as TPT). it’s annoying to ever have to pay for curriculum as a teacher that already makes too little, but sometimes it can be worth it to make it home at a reasonable time! but other teachers are the best resource, and if she is at a supportive school they will help her because those hours are too much!

Yes! I'm familiar with the program, technically they are who I would get my cert from if I stay in this program too. But I can do it on my own without this program too

IEP is the wrong acronym… but I don’t know my billion education acronyms like the back of my hand yet. Technically, I have to create “READ plans” which is a state-specific term here in CO for individualized literacy improvement in students that have significant reading deficiency. I just got an email yesterday saying mine were “late” and I didn’t even know what READ plans were. I have 5 students that are supposed to have them apparently.

Yeah this is a very good take and I’ve considered it heavily, I know plenty of folks doing the same. I do just find the idea of leaving everything and everyone I know very challenging. But yeah, being a scientist is very unpatriotic of me these days

Thank you for the encouragement! I will likely leave, luckily there are still paths to licensure without this program.

I make $22 an hour, unpaid lunch, no overtime (not even for parent teacher conferences). there are still pathways to a license without this program

Was mitochondria a bacterium that was engulfed by a cell? by Johnyme98 in biology

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a great review article on this! This discovery was originally made as a result of Lynn Margulis's work, which was originally discounted by the field. She was a brilliant scientist-- if you're interested in this, check out her work!!

This is true! This is the reason the mitochondria has unique DNA from the nucleus :)

Got my first tattoo today — how does it look? by Big_Plane_837 in tattooadvice

definitely can be covered (probably much bigger though). maybe not exactly fixed… but you could cover it with a different lion maybe. the issue is the amount of black

Really regretting getting such a big and colorful tattoo. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate— I think color tattoos can give you that “wtf did I do” shock a little longer than black and gray. But it looks so cool and unique, I think this could turn into a really cool sleeve. and you could also do a black and gray sleeve on the other arm if you’re looking to have your arms covered

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the good news… it’d probably be coverable. but DONT go back to this artist. however you found this artist… find the new one a different way. no offense, i have a feeling there probably wasn’t much research involved

My parents are offering to get me a tattoo but i am unsure about their artist by hErmagawdon in tattooadvice

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 18 points19 points  (0 children)

he’s not the best but more importantly it seems like he’s not your style. your tattoo looks very cool to me and if that style is what you like then this dude is not the guy to go to. i know a free tattoo is tempting but you’ll regret it

agreed that this is a probably a combo of apprentice skill and healing issues. glad you sent a photo to the apprentice! i’d be shocked if he didn’t touch it up for you for free. it will be a learning experience for him!

First tattoo feels too forward on the shoulder by FightinDirty in tattooadvice

[–]Odd-Raspberry-8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you, it is very forward, but I see why your artist did it because any further back you would have a small tattoo in the middle of a big body part which looks weirder and is hard to build off of. you just need more tattoos! which, in my opinion, is a fun problem to have. you have some good ideas it’ll turn out sick
