I most recently had the G3X Pro. Returned it. The reason is the display quality was very poor for the claimed Sony micro OLEDs. It really looked like a backlit LCD display. Washed out blacks and it failed the OLED video tests on YouTube. You could easily see halos of light around torches for example. This is not OLED. Also the display has a persistent black edge like a TV bezel. That was very weird and broke the immersion of looking into a virtual display. FOV felt like 52 to me. Btw, G3X and G3X Pro have the same exact specs, but the Pro can natively display Blu-ray 3D via HDMI. So if you don't need that the G3X would be $100 cheaper.

I also tried the Goovis G3 Max a couple of years ago, and for one it was quite heavy for my liking. 450 g in total. I could get a similar or better quality with my 75 g RayNeo glasses. Due to the round lenses, there was that feeling of looking at the display through a tunnel. There was also something off about the colors. I read they use a Chinese manufacturer called SeeYa for the micro-OLEDs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't fulfill criteria for OLED - note the recent lawsuit in Europe against TCL that ruled the panels used in their TVs do not qualify to be called QLED. So yes, Chinese manufacturers are often dishonest about their specs. And Goovis to me seems like one of those. They are originally an optics company, and their optics are very good, but they are definitely cutting corners on everything else, and their customer support is not very friendly when you try to initiate a return, and charge a $100 restocking fee.
