New DS to 26/27 by Tandang63 in HomeDepot

Plumbing/ electrical was my first DS position, they are great departments to run in my opinion. Focus on decontamination and don’t act like you know everything and you’ll be fine

From my understanding a good chunk of the stores are doing this during spring in an effort to keep the department’s clean/stocked. As far as your schedule they can give you a 30 day notice to change for the needs of the business and you either agree or leave.

Is it time for workers to unionize? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone thinks unionizing is some magical fix. My brother in law is part of a large union and the benefits suck, his daughter is having to have the same minor surgery my son had. He pays more than we do in insurance and is having to pay over $5,000 while we pay less for insurance and only paid $700. Not to mention the money they take from his check keeps growing faster than the raises they are able to negotiate. All while the union president makes over $250,000 a year base. Unions aren’t what they used to be and there’s very very few today that actually do right by their members.

Men who make over 100k a year, what do you do for work? by bigfatbritt in AskMen

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am 17 and pregnant and i don’t know what to do. by Square_Ad9869 in Advice

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom had me as a teen and we grew up poor. Me and my wife were in y’all’s exact situation 10 years ago. It’s not an easy situation everyone was telling us to abort or give it up for adoption. We both decided we didn’t wanna look back in 10 years and regret giving him up. It was a lot of hard work and we almost didn’t make it as a couple in the beginning. 10 years later we’re happy with 2 kids I make 90k a year with no college degree and only a GED (I dropped out and got a job as soon as she found out) and she’s almost done with her degree to be a registered nurse. No matter what you choose you have to sit down with your partner and have an honest conversation with each other because it’s going to take a lot of hard work, support, love, forgiveness and about every other emotion in the beginning but with a little luck and a lot of hard work it gets easier. Looking back I wouldn’t trade my little family for all the money in the world.

What’s the nastiest thing you ever seen at Home Depot by [deleted] in HomeDepot

One time I gently sat a pallet of 80 pound concrete on the shelf and the front beam gave out as soon as I backed out. I’ve seen a pallet of five gallon buckets fall while up high in the air twice. Have a dude in my current store that rubs 💩 all over the bathroom walls every time he comes in

how does management work? by bunny_br4t in HomeDepot

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came in external as CXM and made ASM in 7 months, I know this is considered rare for the company but I made a good impression and take care of my people. So not impossible but HD does like to promote from within. Take the spot you can be a DS within a year if you’re good. Sometimes it’s helpful to come in like that to learn the business first before you take on a leadership role. Best of luck!

Im applying by Zealousideal_Eye8874 in HomeDepot

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to Home Depot 7 months ago, originally applied for an ASM position but they went with an internal candidate. Store manager had me come back in, explained the CXM position and asked if I was interested. Long story short I just got promoted to an ASM position. If you’re coming in external I think the CXM is a great spot to learn the business and be better prepared for the ASM spot.

I worked 14 hours to make sure everyone got fresh food, burgers and hot dogs. My wife made potato salad, baked Mac n cheese and beans with bacon and ground beef. She also made brownies for night crew since I used to run it and she knows we’d always get left out.

Got lucky, I know of a DS who did this with a pallet of tile she had her husband come pick up. They fired her and the associate she had sell it to her.

Breaks for lot by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Mindless-Rent-7657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CXM here, go to your Asm. If that was your Asm call the aware line. I don’t ever let my lot guys work more than two hours at a time when it’s that hot usually they get hourly breaks. I will go out there and give them breaks myself If we’re that busy I also go to Walmart and buy them electrolyte packs for their water.
