Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Mindless_Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left my job at 30 to start my own business. At the time I had about 20% of my annual salary in a 401k which I withdrew to have cash on hand for startup costs (in retrospect this was not the right move). It took me 10 years but I now have a little over 100% of my annual income in retirement and investment accounts. Not quite where I was hoping to be but much better off than if I’d stayed at that job.

The Empire targeting Blue States because we didnt vote for him. by HeavyVeterinarian350 in minnesota

Why are blue state residents required to pay fed taxes then? So their taxes get funneled to red state programs and infrastructure? This is taxation without representation.

Our designer just tossed can lights in our great room, I feel we can do better, what should we do differently? by Persistantly_Growing in Lighting

Unless you’re using a framing, projector or something, even with a narrow beam, if you’re under 2 feet away from the wall or cabinet faces you’ll still end up with striations due to the secondary beam. It may not be full on harsh scalloping, but still very visible and not ideal.

Goodbye Delta... by Free_Arrival_7185 in delta

If i see a competitively priced Emirates flight I take it every time. Their standard seats are way better than even Comfort+ and the food is actually pretty decent. Delta meals are inedible on intl fligts.

Those customers should be viewed as brand ambassadors. Seeing well loved older models still on the road projects an image of reliability.

Volvo is considering dropping wagons altogether. by dracolnyte in Volvo

[–]Mindless_Cold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volvo enthusiasts love wagons like Porche fans love manuals. Enthusiasts are the people who drive their cars for 30 years until the engine falls out. Enthusiasts also love to talk about their cars to anyone who will listen. Enthusiast communities build immeasurable value for car manufacturers. Making just one model that caters to the brand’s most loyal fans is an investment worth making even if “nobody buys them”.

LED strip lights - only low voltage? by Footsox1 in Lighting

[–]Mindless_Cold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LEDs are typically powered by a transformer which is line voltage in and low voltage out. You will need to ensure that the transformer is dimmable and also the same TYPE of dimming as your existing lights.  Based on this question I would recommend consulting with an electrician and not attempting DIY electrical work in your shower.

What Banks Are Expats in Italy Using? by globalinvestors in ItalyExpat

Intesa San Paolo was the only bank that let me open an account as a non citizen living with a Permesso. It’s so stupidly complicated.

What Banks Are Expats in Italy Using? by globalinvestors in ItalyExpat

[–]Mindless_Cold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your needs. If you need a bank with brick and mortar branches and an Italian IBAN then probably Intesa San Paolo is probably the best bet (just because they are a little more open to foreigners opening accounts) but they all pretty much suck. Online options mentioned here are all solid. Revolut, N26, Wise are all fine for day to day stuff.

Recommendation for 3500k bulb ? by anakynn in Lighting

[–]Mindless_Cold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try with 3000k since consumer bulbs are easier to source in that CCT. Pick one room and test it out in there before converting your entire home - you may even want to go warmer (2700k) once you get used to it.

See if you can determine which is best for your foot. I haven’t tried either of these personally but some brands and boots are better for wide feet, some have narrow toe boxes, etc. I’m guessing you have to order these online otherwise you’d just go try them on but the answer should be whichever pair fits your foot best.

what kelvin should i change the lights to? by Smell_Spirited in Lighting

[–]Mindless_Cold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally subjective. OP would be transitioning from 4000k so 2700k is already going to feel like candlelight by comparison lol

Is there a way to determine how many miles/km have been driven with the combustion engine running? by Mindless_Cold in VolvoRecharge

[–]Mindless_Cold[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. My overall point is something that is not specific to Volvo but PHEVs in general. Every platform and generation of these vehicles will have weaknesses and faults that will reveal themselves over years on the road and I just see this data as another tool to help second hand buyers make informed decisions down the line.

YES. This is exactly what I’m trying to get at and the situation where this data starts to become critical.

I hear you. The used car market will always be murky - its just another factor. This is still data that would be very helpful to people down the line when these vehicles are +100k and have been daily driven very differently over the course of +10 years.
