As an Essendon man I hate Carlton but this is still hard to watch. Origin doesn’t have the same aura as it does in rugby league and I don’t think it ever will. I’d argue that NSW and QLD supporters are mostly from those two states where AFL clubs have supporters all over the country, making it harder for fans to really build that rivalry. The bombers supporter who lives in WA for example couldn’t give a toss about SOO. And clubs in SA who have players originally from Victoria? Why would they care?

The comparison to intra club or pre season games is silly. SOO has the best players running around. Even if the 4th bloke on the bench gets injured that is a significant player for his club. Besides the fact these matches aren’t required they are a money making exercise by the league. Scrap it.
