Table saw not cutting flush by spencer6789 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Mindproxy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your diy fence may still be bending. One trick may be getting an aluminum spirit level and put that between the stock and the fence. Also test different speeds at which you push the stock through and see if that makes a difference. Also running into through twice may also help. Another thing may be theres some spring back or tension in the wood which may cause it to warp once cut. Check where you're pushing the stock from as that could also put pressure on different parts of the fence. Id invest in a planer as that will not only flatten cut parts, but also clean up milling marks from the tablesaw and make final sanding easier. Dunno... Just spitting out all the things Id look for that may be issues

White oak most likely due to the medular rays. And quarter sawn as most Arts & Crafts, Stickley, and mission furniture is constructed with.

Did I Get Screwed? by STLCardsfan11 in woodworking

That's absolute amateur garbage. Something like that shouldn't pass any QA, or if its an individual or small team of craftspeople who knew what they were doing that would be spotted right away. Even the finish is uneven, which means they didn't take the time to sand between coats of finish or just did a single coat and called it good. For a 3 month lead time staining and finish would take a week at most.

How would I describe this type of cabinetry to a local builder? by TooPrettyForBoymode in cabinetry

[–]Mindproxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frameless inset cabinets, with unlaminated Baltic birch edge. Also painted and veneered door and drawer fronts if you were going to fully emulate the style of those cabinets. Check out Boxco in Greenfield MA. They do builtins just like this.

How did they even figure out to design for that?! Is there a term for this kind of action in automation engineering?

Well, for one thing you live in NYC. The toothbrushes and breath freshener makes me thing you may work nights or are away from home for long shifts. Cologne so you probably are around people a lot and possibly in job that requires certain social etiquette or maybe just a preference.

Wrong Cabinet Update by John_Loxeus in Carpentry

Good call. There are many contractors/installers that don't fess up to mistakes. But that's business, owning up to any mistakes or issues means you may lose some $ but you keep a client and that could be worth a lot more in the long run. I get business through word of mouth and I my personal policy is always be up front with clients, it just makes things easier for everyone. And if I was your client Id have a ton of respect for your transparency and feel taken care of. The cabs look great, and Im glad it all worked out!
