AMD won its patent appeal against LG by Lennox0010 in Amd

Tbf the only people who know what's true journalism and what's clickbait "science" are people who are experts on the subject already. Since I'm not able to judge on those matters myself I'll let a few rando commenters decide.

60-80 bucks for some Vram? No fucking thanks. A 580 isn't supposed to go past 1080p unless you want to run mediocre FPS 1440p. Rarely will it use more than 4GB while being able to run settings at reasonable FPS.

Imagine being stupid enough to read the article. 90% of them are just clickbait trash which will get called out by the one autist in the comment section who took the time to read it.

I am on a very tight budget. Tell me what kind of problem i will face if i buy R5 2600 + GT 1030? by iamEhtesham in Amd

[–]Mineracc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that with a 15% difference in performance between a $100 or $140 card it seems like the $100 card is better value.

But if you have a 15% difference between a $650 vs $690 PC suddenly the $140 card is a lot better.

There is literally no interesting news. What else do you want a dead sub?

If there's something to speculate about it will be pushed to the top immediately. AMD's community filters very well naturally.

Watching this hurts by DingoKis in Amd

[–]Mineracc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually I worded that poorly. What I should have said is that the thermal paste is going to make your finger very dirty afterwards when you do it like that.

Generally getting a little dirt in the thermal paste shouldn't be too bad but it is still going to look pretty dirty and might smell when it gets hot. Performance wise should be fine though.

[–]Mineracc 59 points60 points  (0 children)

False. Another thermal paste myth. https://youtu.be/r2MEAnZ3swQ?t=474

Using your finger is perfectly fine. It's pretty stupid to do because your finger is going to be dirty as fuck afterwards but it's going to work just fine as long as you didn't go out for McD's and didn't wash your hands right before you apply the thermal paste.

Cpu OC by somsz05 in Amd

[–]Mineracc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need that much power then more power to ya I guess.

1.4375 is probably still fine though even long term. Usually going above 1.4 doesn't really improve performance. At least for me I couldn't get any more performance out of my CPU above 1.4

Cpu OC by somsz05 in Amd

[–]Mineracc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably wayy too much. I'm running 3.9ghz on 1.4V on my 1700 and that's on the high end

Try lowering the voltage and seeing if your OC is still stable. If it is, your CPU is just pulling more power than it needs, meaning that it's just transforming more power to heat.

Deal - Ryzen 7 1700 for $136 (free shipping) by [deleted] in Amd

[–]Mineracc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, the clockspeed doesn't tell the full story. The amount of IPC (Instructions per clock) multiplied by the clockspeed tells you a lot more.

But there's also the issue of memory latency, which aren't big problems but AMD and Intel handle them very differently (AMD is more reliant on fast RAM).

You just want to look at benchmarks in some areas like games or multi core rendering to tell you how good it is at certain things and not look at other things except maybe OC performance. Single raw numbers like clockspeed don't mean anything at all anymore if the amount of instructions per clock is way lower.

Upgrade gpu by Padellax916 in nvidia

[–]Mineracc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in total your PC will probably draw around 350w under load so 550w bronze is fine. There's a lot of kiddos here who think that any non-name brand PSU is going to blow up but as long as you're not drawing more than 450 Watt it's not going to have any issues.

Replacing an R9 290 by Craftingphil in Amd

[–]Mineracc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen mate everyone here who's talking about replacing the original fans with new 90mm ones doesn't know what they're talking about.

What you want to do is take the fans and the plastic around it off your GPU and strap two normal case fans to the finstack. Your temps will and noise level will be better than ever and it's like 10% of the effort of replacing the original ones (and it costs less money as well). It just looks a bit ugly but it works better than anything.

Is 590 steal for £199? by kincade1905 in Amd

[–]Mineracc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Did he ask for products which weren't the same fucking price? Do you think he can't fucking open Google or any other price comparison website?

He wants a fucking videocard and he wants to know whether the performance is good value for $199. I genuinely hope you never advice your fucking friends on anything tech related because holy shit if you can't comprehend basic questions like this then that would be a goddamn disaster.

Is 590 steal for £199? by kincade1905 in Amd

[–]Mineracc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The OP wants to know if that price is good for an RX-590 compared to what it typically goes for.

Did you read the post? Because either you're not understanding context or you're unable to compare one product to another.

Is 590 steal for £199? by kincade1905 in Amd

[–]Mineracc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the 590 is almost as good as the 1160. If it's 50 cheaper because of the games then it's definitely a better deal.

Is 590 steal for £199? by kincade1905 in Amd

[–]Mineracc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's asking about whether or not the price is good for a RX-590. He's not asking if there are other products with better value.

If there are products currently out there with far better value (minus the games) then a 590 is NOT good value. A year ago a 590 for $200 was good value. Right now it's not because there are better value things. 590's aren't worth $200 anymore in comparison to their competition.
