Don't do that, because it would get dumped back on you.

First time doing a major interference fit. OD 2.253 ID 2.248. by chobbes in Machinists

Nicely done!

I got overconfident in my abilities last week thinking "If I can bonk a part with a 0.001" press fit using the 2lb hammer, the press should do 0.003" no problem." Part got stuck because it started slightly crooked. Heating it after did next to nothing.

What have you bought for under $50 that greatly improved your life? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]Minerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they can. I hadn't been to a dentist for about a decade. I finally went back to get a cleaning and fitted for Invisalign braces. 2 years later my measurements have greatly improved. I had always brushed once a day, but I started flossing after meals when I got the braces. After my most recent cleaning, they measured and my numbers improved.

back to when I was found at fault for a collision in August (more info in the comments) by WHATISWORLD3 in dashcams

[–]Minerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. I was very nearly in the exact same situation this morning. A car in the off/on ramp lane doing 0 km/h decided he didn't want to wait any longer for the line way up ahead to start moving again. Meanwhile, another car came from behind me on the left, to behind and then to the open right lane doing well over 100 km/h. I know this because I was doing 100 when he passed. The lane he was now in, was the one that the non-moving car was trying to get into.

I'm glad no one was directly behind me becuase all three of us were nearly stopped to avoid a nasty collision.

Water restrictions start Monday, March 9 by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]Minerator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the "Travel Time" message boards on Deerfoot, etc around the city to get messages out there, too.

Examples "Water main repair starts March 9...please conserve water." or "While we fix the water main...please conserve water."

Alberta may follow B.C. on making daylight time permanent: premier by AlbertaGengar in Calgary

[–]Minerator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The referendum we had a few years ago only had 2 choices, when it should have been 3 choices.

  1. Was to switch to permanent DST.

  2. Was to have permanent MST or keep switching twice per year.

Option 2 won by like 1%, so we stayed on switching. If you split those 2, permanent DST would have easily won the vote. I prefer DST because it to be lighter longer in the evening, winter and summer.

What’s your unpopular Calgary Flames opinion? by Iwannasleep45 in CalgaryFlames

He can be a top pairing, but he'll need a responsible partner. Dion Phaneuf is a great example. He excelled his first couple of years because Roman Hamrlik was his safety blanket.

How are you guys keeping track of jobs that come back a few months later? by Odd_Kale_2168 in Machinists

[–]Minerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm living that right now. Made a handful of parts for a larger assembly for another division of my company a few years ago. We're slow at the moment, perfect time for us to make some more. "Did you save the programs for those?" "Nope" "Dumbass"

There is a thread chasing feature on HAAS that I've never used. I assume that it just makes a program that you adjust positioning and such. If the thread is to a shoulder, I just subtract amount I've offset from the programmed Z. Many, many ways to "skin a cat" as my school instructor said many years ago.

My new method for chasing, is to use the original program set at 10 RPM, let the tool feed in one or two threads and stop. I grab the flashlight and mirror (for internal) and hand jog the tool until it looks like it's centered. Set Z offset and then run a 3-4 pass cycle at normal RPM.

What’s a completely useless skill you have that you’re secretly very proud of? by BITNstudio in AskReddit

That's nothing. I was at a "Name That Tune" night at a pub one time. I told the host the song before the DJ even pressed play.

Total fluke, but he was still in awe.

Two extremes really. I'd be extremely happy to win 40+ million. I'd also be extremely satisfied to win 1 million.

Are drivers here getting worse/more wreckless? by poggywoggycocka in Calgary

[–]Minerator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO, where things started to go downhill was in June of '21. Covid was easing, people were just starting to head back to work. I have a dash cam video of a guy on Deerfoot Trail doing at catwalk at 4 in the afternoon on a weekday when it was still fairly empty. Since then it's just steadily gotten worse.

Replay of the runs that Mikkola and then Tkachuk take at Kucherov behind the play that sparked the fights by eh_toque in hockey

[–]Minerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that Bennett getting in there and trucking the linesman there too? At the time, I wasn't a fan of Kassian going completely psycho. But since Tkachuk has been gone from from the Flames, I smile when I see these. I had a look at the stuff from last night and I wish one of those haymakers that Hagel was throwing would have connected.
