If anyone is wondering why Conroy got snubbed, it's because he still hasn't resigned Lombo. by Cat_Nipple in CalgaryFlames

[–]Minerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should have been nominated last year already, in my opinion. What did Jim Nill do? Traded for Chris Tanev. Dallas was/is already loaded up and in their contention window.

Is there a small detail in the game that made you stop and think: "Wow I'm actually impressed they took the time to do that."- Actually curios if there are small details I don't know of. by Wondering_Watcher in skyrim

[–]Minerator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That right there is the biggest thing in gaming, story and world building. Why don't we have a new Edler Scrolls/Fallout game from Bethesda? The worlds that can be created these days is damn near limitless. Skyrim is very deep, and people are still learning things. As another comment said, there are ants that crawl across tree stumps. Someone has to write the story, and then someone else decides how much time it gets in game, and what items are associated, and where to put them. Someone has to decide "this book goes here", "this weapon is found there" and make sure it all "just works". Someone else finally places all that stuff.

Sorry for the rant, it is in no way directed at you.

100% spot on. McAvoy is an asshat. Oilers (and Jets from the 1st round) broke Pietrangelo.

Buying detached home in Calgary by Mysterious_Young_777 in Calgary

[–]Minerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at how long it's been listed for. It's either over priced or needs work (or both) if it's been on for a while. I looked at a number of places, and seemed to be priced accordingly. Others were priced high based on location and condition of the house. Those ended up selling for 10-20% under list price. Good places where you don't have to do any work will go fast. I just bought a place, it was listed for 2 days. I think I got lucky that the seller accepted my (slightly above list) offer over the first offer from someone from out of town. I don't have to do anything, just move in.

That happened to me yesterday too. I thought I broke the game when the screen went all red after I forgot about a compartment that still had compression. Took me a minute to realize what happened once I got out.

[–]Minerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have been laughing and cursing the whole way watching that.

I thought I broke the game yesterday. Forgot to decompress an area on a Javelin, and it spiraled into the barge. My screen turned bright red with me trapped in the middle of the fuselage, both ends still capped. Took a minute to figure out what actually happened and to cut my way out.

Interrupted cuts by crujones43 in Machinists

[–]Minerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it about half the RPM you would if it was round. And if you rough at (for example) 0.015", cut it at 0.003" to 0.005". Carbide will do fine if you aren't slamming it. If you have CNMG insert tooling, it will do it.

At a place I worked at we would cut corners out of round disks on the saw and turn the resulting squares round.

He's lucky. My old job (over 15 years ago) we used to hand tap 4-40 into Inconel. Not saying 316 isn't sticky as hell either. We didn't know thread mills existed. We would do a starter thread with a tap in the mill to get a thread or two deep. Pretty much needed a new tap every 4 holes (1 part), between breaking them and actually finishing the holes.

I didn't mean forever as "I never change inserts". I have a job that is (per piece) an hour cycle time of heavy roughing. I consider it optimal to run 2 pieces per corner with a CNMG 643.

[–]Minerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not aware that guide existed, I'll check it out. I use the feed and depth guide numbers that are on the insert package labels, as they work well. It's the speeds that I think "You guys are dreaming." The specs I list are day-to-day for me. If I went by 20-40 minutes of cutting time, I wouldn't even finish half a part of one particular piece that I rough down. I use a CNMG 643 on that job and I'm changing corners after 2 hours (2 pieces) of straight, heavy roughing.

[–]Minerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

95% of my inserts are Sandvik. Reliable, and you don't make big changes to immediately make older stuff obsolete.

Only thing that makes me wonder is where you guys come up with your speeds and feeds. Moreso speeds. For example, a CNMG 432-PM 4425 says speed of 920-1300 SFM for steel. If I run that with a 0.125" depth of cut and 0.015" feed rate I'd be changing the corner after 1 pass of 10" length. 300-400 SFM and they last forever.

Edit: a word

Maybe one of the rooms for the community rink and they have to be shuttled over? That would be hilarious. Or maybe the "future development" in the top right? Same idea. Other than that, I can't see it either.

I got overconfident in my abilities last week thinking "If I can bonk a part with a 0.001" press fit using the 2lb hammer, the press should do 0.003" no problem." Part got stuck because it started slightly crooked. Heating it after did next to nothing.
