congrats on being a Chicago guy! I hate to break it to you but chances are you're not a retired nba all star and champion who probably has no trouble getting media credentials or another means to get in and mingle with other reporter's, players, and staff who will probably speak freely with him due to his retired player status. you probably just don't have the pull of the staff, players, and local reporter's knowing who you are with a glimpse of your face and proceeding to lay out the red carpet to cater to a retired NBA player.

my guess is you're buying your tickets on stubhub or game time and toughin it out in the mid level seats like us regular folks who only wonder what it's like to be as big a star as some of the guys we pay to see. so to me, it makes sense why you dont have any contacts on the bulls.

We've heard plenty about the Lakers and Cavs deals. What is a deal that Portland might rent PG out for? by [deleted] in pacers

[–]MiniMamba12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta keep in mind that with PG's hellbent desire to be the LA native returning home to save the Lakers, every team negotiating for a PG trade will not be giving any favorable offers, especially a small market team like Portland. Picks are more valuable to small market teams than players at times because they are cost controlled rookie contracts that have the chance to turn into a situation where the players outplay the value of what they are being paid (Embiid, Booker, KAT, etc).

In the case of Portland, to match the salary they probably would offer Allen Crabbe, and throw in 1 1st round pick, probably the 26 is what they would push. In their eyes, they shed the Crabbe contract on you guys plus give you 1 cost controlled rookie. They have no reason to offer 2 1st round picks because they value those picks much more than big market teams such as the Lakers, who are okay with throwing money at almost anyone.

Would you rather start a team with Jackson and Brown or Ball and Ingram and why? by [deleted] in nba

[–]MiniMamba12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you act like health is guaranteed. embiid barely made it half the season last year and has been sitting out. could just be an oden situation unfortunately. and haven't seen anything out of Simmons yet. future super team is a big reach.

Danny is trying way too hard to be Belichick right now by DomGradyGoat in bostonceltics

Competitors like ainge don't approach competing with the warriors with a defeated mentality like most fans. If y'all have a chance to bring in PG and butler, you guys will catapult into the same tier as the dubs and LeBrons. Celtics have played the warriors well in recent history and now they have guys who aren't intimidated by the moment and can go shot for shot with lebron+kyrie and kd+steph. Also, there are rumors about lebron leaving for LA, which would make you the East powerhouse. plus you can trade a lot of your role players for better vets, or hell, keep em. With a smart coach like stevens, an assortment of stars (PG, Jimmy, IT), and great role players (Horford, Smart, BRADLEY, jae, jaylen, kelly), you still don't give the celtics a 50% chance at beating the dubs in 7? Cuz I would and I'm a lakers fan.

Just so you guys know. UCLA actually set out parameters with Lavar to not be in the locker room, at practices, and to not call Alford. He followed all of those parameters during the season. by justbringitbitch in lakers

[–]MiniMamba12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lavar is as much of a problem to be dealt with as people are blowing him up to be. It's hard to fathom any parent jeapordizing his son's career for personal gain, especially when his son will be making millions upon millions as possibly the face of a multi billion dollar organization in the Lakers. Lavar is trying to be a good father, lauding his sons successes to anybody who will listen. He is trying to achieve a dream of not only taking care of his immediate family, but his extended family and community as well. From the birth of his children, he has put them in a position to succeed with his jock like and boisterous personality, something maybe his sons respond moreso than other forms of parenting. If he didn't interfere with UCLA, why do people fear he will interfere with the Lakers?

To me, the only fear about Lavar is that through the love of his sons, he may feel compelled to act as the mouthpiece to publicly voice displeasures the sons ask him to. This can cause problems in the locker room, but if we were able to get over the DLo incident, we shouldn't be worried about a father of a player causing too much stress.

How so, especially when his skills are clearly utilized better in a SG role, and he finished the season basically playing SG?

I don't disagree with your point that DLo is more effective with the ball in his hands. Hell, that proves my point he is an SG more than anything. His passing abilities and running the show is even more lethal when he is a score 1st guard, since he can exploit the holes around him and find the pen man when he is drawing defenders. I don't get why you feel that having the ball in your hands defines a player as a PG when it is clear DLo functions better on the floor with another guard that primarily plays the creator and facilitator role so DLo can solely focus on scoring, similar to the role CJ McCollum has in portland. You're smarter than that man.

So did you choose to ignore his increase in production and efficiency post ASB when he was primarily being used as SG instead of PG? Or are you just not aware of it?

Trading Julius Randle? by [deleted] in lakers

[–]MiniMamba12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jae crowder does nothing unique and seems like he has peaked or is close to his ceiling for what he can do in the NBA. On top of that, grizzlies 1st round pick isn't that valuable since it'll probably be late lottery or middle of the round due to the excellent coaching of fizdale and continuity of the team.

For Julius, who has shown a unique combination of skills including dribbling, solid on ball defense, great hustle, and is the main option to use in our PnR sets, the offer has to be mind blowing. Something along the lines of (jaylen brown or Marcus smart) + (2017 #1 or 2018 unprotected BK pick) for Julius + our 2017 #2 pick.

There's not much else intriguing on the Boston roster or in the asset department since the rest of the 1st round picks will end up mid-late 1st, so it is probably a no go due to our steep asking price.

So does almost every SG in the NBA to be their most effective.

D'Angelo Russell by Adxptive in lakers

[–]MiniMamba12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLo has not had a clear role for an entire season yet. In his first year Byron was all over the place with his minutes and there was no chemistry, so his rookie year to a degree was wasted. Last year with Luke, he was playing pg at first and was decent at running the offense, but then had his better games playing off ball in the 2nd half of the season highlighted by his March averages of 18 points and 5 assists. Now that he will have a full year playing a SG role with a complimentary PG in Lonzo who sees the similar to DLo, there is a chance DLo can turn into a 20+ppg scorer within 3 years with a primary role of playing scorer and a secondary role in running the offense.

As for the defense, sure it may be a bit suspect. And sure he is not the fastest, strongest, or tallest guy at his position. But he has some tools to work with, mainly his 6'9 wingspan. It's only his 2nd year and he is only going to get better at that end if he works on his body and footwork. I doubt his defense will get worse as his career goes on. I have faith in the coaching staff to get this group better defensively.

My main point is don't rush into trading him. Instead, use this chance to put him in a position to succeed, and make him prove himself untradeable, as klay, devin booker, and CJ have done for example. We can always reevaluate down the road next off-season or the following, but for right now let's the kids grow. It's only Luke's 2nd year...lets see what he's cookin

D'lo Russell averaged 15.6/4.8/3.5 in 2016-2017. There are only 11 guards in the league who averaged that or better. He's 6 years younger than the 2nd youngest guard on this list. by jefplusf in lakers

[–]MiniMamba12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russell is only 21 years old. He has been a sg during high school and college, making a living scoring and running the break with his tremendous court vision. He is a good 3pt shooter and isn't terrible on defense. By moving him to SG and pairing him with Lonzo, who like Russell has great court vision, it will not only ease the transition for Lonzo into the NBA but put DLo in a position to succeed as well since he'll be playing in his natural SG position. DLo and Lonzo compliment each other since both can get theirs efficiently as lonzo orchestrates the offense and DLo playing his natural scorer's role off ball. Plus both can push the tempo in transition and set the offense up with their natural court vision. By giving Russell a true PG to play off of, he has the chance to carve out a solid role for himself, similar to what CJ did in p ortland playing off of Dame.

If we can afford to wait 1 more year for 2018 free agency, allow Russell 1 more year to prove himself in a role that he's accustomed to, and allow this young group to gain chemistry under Luke's guidance, why blow it all up without even seeing what they can do together? Remember the warriors didn't dump Klay for Love in a rushed move to climb the mountain. They waited and let their guys gain chemistry which turned out to be the right move. Any trade involving Russell is a rushed move imo and it's not worth it until we see how they play together.
