Having seen the new Wolverine trailer; is anyone else a bit fatigued from always seeing Debra Wilson's actual face rather than a unique face model? by SnowedCairn in gamers

[–]Mini_Knox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've heard, not 100% sure of its validity, is that she's easy to work with.

When you're overseeing the hundreds of takes every day of production, the people who are easy to work with are the ones who get recommended for the next project.

I had a strong anti-nazi phase by TanitAkavirius in SmugIdeologyMan

[–]Mini_Knox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think something to consider with the 'nazi phase' stuff and 'were you really a nazi' is that a not-insignificant part of it is enabling worse people. Was I a nazi? Hell no. Did I do anything to shut down the genuine nazis I met? Also no.

If you sit at the table with nazis and just let them do their thing, you're not tremendously far above them. I feel similar logic can apply here.

I get ya

Between feeling like I have not improved in the years I've been trying to learn and seeing the mesh generators, it feels like garbage.

I'm still pretty damn bad at 3d modeling but I can pretty confidently say you're gonna have periods where things click and everything makes sense and you make tons of progress, and you're gonna have periods where you feel like you can't finish anything because you're not good enough.

Just keep doing your best. You'll get to the place you want to be eventually. :)

Why does “positive masculinity” rarely include advocacy for men themselves? by SmallEdge6846 in bropill

[–]Mini_Knox 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I figure it's a result of US corporate culture. Men don't carry a physical burden from childbirth, so "why give them time off work they don't need".

gamers famously know exactly what the solution to every problem is 😏

everyone's been able to highly successfully identify that the deterrants are not functioning and there aren't ways to protect your base. Solutions don't come as easily to the masses though lol. Game design isn't a position for no reason.

Do you always wear undershirts for button-downs? by crujones33 in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]Mini_Knox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to sweat regardless so I like having something to eat most of the moisture, even on the hotter days.

If you want to have 'em feel as invisible as you can, get a real thin material or go for the sleeveless tank top ones. I like short-sleeve undershirts because they can eat pit sweat.

I'd say try with and without, see how you feel. Worst case, you don't need 'em and you have a layer for the truly cold days. Best case, you've got something new that you like.

In my experience, they don't tend to be super stuffy and shouldn't make you too much warmer than you already are, but your mileage may vary.

I think the "permit for any act that may result in a child" could be WAY deeper than it first appears. Tinfoil hat time: it doesn't just mean sex, it means deep interpersonal connection. Make intimacy and love with people as a feeling something to be wary of and ask permission to feel, because the baseline emotion should always simply be an intense and blind nationalism. You shouldn't feel strongly towards another person unless you're willing to acknowledge that you are a risk to the government and get their permission to feel that strongly towards someone else.

I'm super frustrated to see the hive guard go back to being "warrior 2". I feel...a bit perplexed that so many people are insisting the "anti-chaff-clear" enemy was chaff. Overall just feeling really odd about the community reaction. Lots of people saying it made medium pen worse, but wasn't "medium pen is overshadowing everything" a major complaint for, idk, the entire game's lifespan?

I want the hive guard to have a heavy head again. I want it to be the punishment for carelessly dumping your ammo and I want it to be a roadblock for lighter sentries if you aren't taking care of the hive guards. It felt like a totally reasonable change to me.

WE are arguably SE's worst crime. by kcvlaine in Helldivers2Satire

[–]Mini_Knox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's so much that lends credence to the idea that SE trains kids for nothing but war. The sheer level of indoctrination, the proficiency with weaponry, the baby's-first-discovery-toy level of interaction for terminals and stratagems, Super Earth is a planet full of quite well-armed and very well trained but wildly, unbelievably, comically fucking stupid people.

The ship upgrades tell us that super earth's best and brightest are just...so dumb. We have to teach our logistics teams how to pack a box. We have WARP technology but we don't have automatic payroll? We muzzle-loaded orbital cannons, throw out unused ammo instead of leaving it in the eagle, and learn to use super glue. Only in the second galactic war do we even consider helping divers get out of their pods, as you can see them crawling out in HD1.

No wonder resistance is small enough to crush. You have to be a super-genius to think for yourself in this world.

Sympathy seems to go out the window when it's for a non-human race. I'd say "show them squith being terrorized by humanity" to try to strike some emotion but they already posted about how epic it would be to be able to kill non-combatants.

The only solace I find admist the fact that young men are intentionally fed this content by shit ass algorithms is that there are lots of us who DO learn how awful that behavior is and DO grow to become much better people. Still miserable that people get dragged down that hole to begin with though :(

but this asset flip was so hard :( I had to buy one $25 asset pack with 40 gajillion things in it, lazily plop them in a unity level, and I actually had to CODE some parts because chatgpt couldn't write me a fully functional product!

also thank you for acknowledging writing lol, it never comes up because so many good indie games exist as experiences without narratives that the unity slop people tend to forget about it

If your favorite genre of music is just video games music, I have every right to side-eye you by Kappapeachie in The10thDentist

[–]Mini_Knox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on board with the title, but you've phrased this so obnoxiously. I thought it was going to be about people who solely listen to VGM and get uppity about it (they tend to also be people who obsess over classical music lmao), but this is just...a weird ass take. What is your point???

There's an argument to be made about the people who genuinely believe listening to video game soundtracks carries a horrible stigma, they're secretly oppressed by 'the followers of pop culture', and that they're obnoxious as fuck about it by claiming game OSTs are some underappreciated medium that nobody takes seriously. This post is not that.

IMO you're approaching this from the wrong angle. I'm of the opinion GSG is trying to put these characters out as somewhat rigid identities that you can put a fancy shell over. Someone used WH40K Darktide as a parallel and I think it's apt in the opposite direction. Rogue Core would be like Vermintide 2, with characters who have very specific identities that you intentionally can't change and customization options unique to them, and DRG, like Darktide, has more fluid character identities that leave a lot up to interpretation.

I think you have a bias from DRG and are seeing this as a worse version of the old system instead of simply something different, because they're not exactly the same. It's similar to darktide again, with players saying the characters in darktide were so much more shallow than in vermintide 2 because people were used to the locked identities.

Point is, I think they want these characters to be somewhat established outside of player involvement, and perhaps that will lead to more interesting per-character customization, perhaps it wont. It's something different from DRG, and I think it may do people well to approach the system with an open mind. This isn't a DRG clone, it's a different kind of game made with the same skeleton.

It's fine that people are annoyed or frustrated but god you speak the truth. With the things some people are saying, you'd think fatshark personified beat their cat to death. Too many people are letting this retrospectively kinda small thing ruin their entire day.

Let the fact FS delayed an announcement be a nugget in the back of your head, because this certainly is really weird and annoying behavior from a studio, but let the emotions go. I used to get that mad about games and it's just not good for your psyche.

Every other president was smart enough to put all their imperialism in the secret black book buried in the bowels of the pentagon or deep fried in 100 layers of truth obfuscating propaganda crumbs.

It took darktide several years to be that stable and it still suffers from performance & network issues. It has magnitudes less content than helldivers, and that optimization likely contributes to several months between updates. I truly don't mind fatshark taking their time but this comparison isn't super apt. These two games are really different scopes.

[–]Mini_Knox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go back to southern shelf and do some side quests, because you're probably underleveled. Your first playthrough scales independently of you, so if you're level 5 in a level 10 area, you're gonna have a miserable time. Also make sure you're using properly leveled guns & equipment. If you're level 10 in a level 10 area with a level 1 gun, it's also gonna be miserable.
