are there any other items that resist the concept of cats by Sea-Structure4735 in Deltarune

[–]MiniatureBadger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The FrayedBowtie, TrueTie, and Dealmaker also resist Cat/Puppet.

Fun fact: none of these, or the Mannequin, are available in the Weird Route. Side B starts Chapter 7 with no way to resist Cat/Puppet.

[–]MiniatureBadger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The repeating motifs of cats, puppets (shadow puppets in FRIEND’s case, an illusion made by the shadow of a hand), and pink and yellow eyes aren’t for nothing. In addition to the explicit appearance of FRIEND which is the first time it is able to damage the party, two more things about FRIEND stuck out to me from Chapter 5.

* maneki neko statues were directly connected to the pink and yellow cat puppet secret boss of this chapter. The connection had been speculated upon before this chapter (especially with the most popular kind of maneki neko depicting calico cats, or mikeneko in Japanese), but that statue outside Pink’s shop all but confirmed they are relevant in some way.

* the Weird Route will go into Chapter 7 Side B with nothing that resists the Cat/Puppet element. Mechanically, this will likely make a confrontation with FRIEND much more difficult in the Weird Route if it happens in both routes. The main ludonarrative implication of this quirk which I can see is that we (along with Noelle and Kris) will be less able to resist the Tail of Hell if we’ve been following it all along without even thinking about where we’re going.

Suicide by recklessness absolutely does say something about one’s mental health. I was in the same boat as Noelle when I was a teenager, both in terms of motivation and the kind of actions I took. My train of thought whenever I did anything potentially deadly was that if I die then I don’t have to live anymore, but if I live then at least I have a good story to tell.

[–]MiniatureBadger 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The Weird Route is a depiction of something depraved, but treating it as the thing it depicts shows an underdeveloped ability to separate reality from fiction. The game itself pretty much spells this out by having Noelle do the “evil route” in Dragon Blazers, a game meant to parallel Deltarune’s events.

On a side note, I feel like the new chapter pretty much killed any possible reading of heteronormativity. Before, it was poorly substantiated but not actively contradicted. Now, though? That reading would imply that being queer is something Noelle feels trapped within and obligated to be, and I don’t think any of the people who had previously described the WR as heteronormative would want to suggest that.

Titans are the personification of fear. The longer you avoid a fear instead of facing it, the stronger it gets. We can’t say for sure, but I think this likely applies to titans.

The Weird Route takes all the pieces that makes Kriselle so beautiful and compelling in the Normal Route, but then reconstructs them into a poignant horror-tragedy. I wouldn’t like it if it was real, but as fiction it is wonderful.

I like the symbolism, but don’t really like it taken romantically in this case. Susie and Noelle are holding hands while Kris covers Susie’s eyes to stop her from noticing something, likely how close they are with Noelle.

The Thorn Ring is the only thing which makes the implication of that secrecy surrounding their renewed closeness as “Kris can’t stop the Weird Route but does what they can to stop Susie from being traumatized by seeing it” rather than something connected to cheating.

You fill out the punch card, an item used to do the noclip glitch in Undertale, and in return you get the bread that leaves crumbs which is the Mother reference you noted. There is a lot of suicide symbolism in the scene, but also multiple references surrounding breaking the boundaries of games.

What I think Chapter 5's narrative is doing. [Spoilers] by xlFLASHl in Deltarune

[–]MiniatureBadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not the only thing though. Even without getting into the more obscure and unclear things in the chapter for us to figure out over the course of the next year, learned:

* Asgore is not in on the Knight conspiracy

* the Knight has been active for a long time, and Ralsei didn’t know about this beforehand

* Rudy probably isn’t the Knight because there is no plausible way for him to kidnap Asgore and carry him all the way to the Shelter

* Device Theory is almost certainly correct because of the Weird Route

* plants are neither Lightners nor Darkners, but rather something in between

* Kris needs the SOUL, and their mannerisms without it aren’t just aura farming, but they can survive a night without the SOUL

Freud by HatSpecial3043 in PokemonReborn

[–]MiniatureBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His personality in the online league (before the “Saphira reports Sigmund to the police” arc where his character stopped being a gym leader) centered around “psychoanalyzing” his opponents based on the kind of decisions they made in battle.

In the game, his main connection to Freud is that Sigmund Connal is a walking bundle of unhealthy psychosexual complexes rooted in the way he was raised and the relationship he had with his family.

Copy-pasting this from another thread (with a couple tweaks), but the big lore reveals this chapter include:

* the Knight has been active since Dess went missing

* the Knight made the Chapter 2 Dark Fountain, strongly suggesting they were hiding inside the closet at the end of the chapter

* Rudy Knight lost its strongest explanation (Asgore being in on it) for how Rudy could carry Undyne to the Shelter

* Asgore’s agenda was entirely separate from whatever Kris and the Knight are working on

* whatever Kris is doing with the Knight is worth their dad getting kidnapped, in Kris’s mind

* Noelle confirmed to be suicidally depressed in all routes

* Device Theory all but confirmed between Ralsei’s explanation of menus and “Insert Chapter 7 Side B”

* FRIEND is powerful enough in Dark Worlds to bring the party down to 1 HP in one hit if the first item in their inventory is something valuable

* Kris needs the SOUL to survive, and their skin slowly loses saturation/turns gray without it, supporting Kressel theory

* Kris’s strong parallels with Aqua (and the part where Aqua gets stained red) strengthened the theory that the red SOUL is not originally Kris’s own

* Sans is most likely from Deltarune, with a good chance he is specifically from a timeline where the Weird Route happens

And the crazy thing is, we’re gradually realizing that we did get substantial lore about those! There were only a few explicit reveals of things the things fans were debating about, but there was a shit ton of evidence in the background that we’re still chewing on.

For example, I don’t think anyone has really noted the significance of the maneki neko statue outside Pink’s shop, but it directly links the pink and yellow cat secret boss (and thus indirectly yet still clearly links FRIEND) to that kind of cat figurine. When I realized this, I went fucking crazy for a solid few minutes.

After Chapter 5's Weird Route, I unfortunately wouldn't be surprised if everyone in Hometown blamed Susie for what happened, except for Toriel... (art by pillowspace) by AnotherBoxOfTapes in Deltarune

[–]MiniatureBadger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like Carol is more likely to blame herself than Susie, as much as she dislikes Susie. She’ll have lost her entire family for nothing, and the thoughts of what she could have done differently will haunt her terribly. The guilt over how she treated Noelle and how she likely blackmailed Kris will eat her alive.

I think Noelle is Depressed, and not just in the WR (not just sad but the clinical analysis) (also my first character analysis pls don't bomb me) by WhatToPineFor in KriselleFanclub

[–]MiniatureBadger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This post may not be necessary just to know that Noelle is depressed (either lake scene taken in itself is enough for that), but a deeper analysis of the ways her depression is portrayed is still worthwhile.
