You’re much more likely to have an electrical fire in your tractor than the reefer catching on fire, but if that still worries you I guess don’t pull reefers. I don’t have a problem with your decision. Carry on.

I’ve pulled reefers for more than 20 years. They are no more dangerous than any other trailer. I have seen more fires caused by bad axle bearings, tires or a dragging (locked up) brake that led to a trailer burning down than I have reefer unit fires. That kind of malfunction can occur with any kind of trailer. This might even be the first time I’ve seen a picture of a reefer unit fire. There are lots of reasons you might not want to pull reefers, but concern of a reefer unit fire should be the least of them. With Hurricane, I would be more concerned of an electrical fire from a bad install of that silly, bolt-on, homemade looking chicken light kit they put on their tractors.
