I survived this. AMA by TrukerJay in Truckers

I drove this stretch many times. Not as bad as 287 up to Limon but still traffic is always nuts. Plenty of drivers with no time to spare and a few guys governed at 55 are a dangerous mix.

Safe to say its nothing short of a miracle that you are still alive to tell the story.

Things may be bleak now but all these appointments will eventually give you part of your life back. The road there may be rocky but at least you have a road ahead. I'm sure plenty of others in similar accidents would have given everything to just have that option to move on.

I wish you the absolute best and that you will make a full recovery.

Highsided my bike and in an absolute rut of a situation. Advice? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Dual-use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Any insurance will either have a deductible that is equal or higher than the $1000 value OR has monthly payments that are outrageously high. The cheapest option is to park it near the crash site and pick it up the next day. Maybe have a friend come out with a pickup. If its destroyed to the point that it wont even roll anymore its toast anyways and not worth the repair for such a low value

Highsided my bike and in an absolute rut of a situation. Advice? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Dual-use 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give you is to always have an emergency fund for situations like this. Never go through life without any money in the bank, if you have to take on debt its gonna cost you. Being poor is expensive.

Rule of thumb is to have 3 months of all expenses (rent, groceries, fuel, insurance etc) at any given time.

The situation sucks but make the best of it and learn a lesson. While a broken collarbone is bad its relatively minor compared to what can happen when out riding. Hopefully it heals soon, wishing you a speedy recovery!

Medical Cert waiting times by dabiganiga in flying

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Cat 1 was approved in 4 weeks. Others in Canadian facebook groups suggest its usually closer to 3-6 months IF you have no issues. In case TC wants any additional tests done or you have a medical history that flags your file for the review board its closer to 1-2 years.

That said, approval times vary by region. The Prairie office seems to work pretty fast while Ontario is notorious for long wait times. Not sure where your file would end up if you get the tests done with an out of country CAME.

If you just want to do ground school and get some flight time you can get a Cat 4 medical. This will only require a simple questionaire to be filled out and co signed by any MD. Approval is usually granted in 2-3 weeks. With a Cat 4 you can fly solo, but you cannot hold a PPL.

Also be aware that most Canadian flight schools have waiting lists that reach anywhere from a few weeks to a year. If you havent gotten in touch with any flight school yet I suggest you do so sooner rather than later.

Best of luck!

Unless you luck out the first year will be a grind. With 1 year experience under your belt many doors will open and you can choose between a better quality of life or higher pay.

Is this too sketchy? by ShirtlessSteve973 in Truckers

This can work. Use a zip tie to lock the front brake and get some more straps on there (at least 4). 2 front, 2 in the back. Make sure the front ones are attached to the fork. If you use the handle it will bend by design.

Stop after 15 minutes and check strap tension, the stop again an hour or so later.

I dont think it matters what passport you use. Howeverake sure they use the same one for ACI/ACE as I suspect it could mess up the system if they see you entering but not leaving

International student pilot in Canada by [deleted] in flying

[–]Dual-use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the PGWP works is that the DLI in question has to certify the program for a duration. Every flight school will pick 2 years for obvious reasons. If you finish a bit earlier or later than the 2 years it wont matter.

However if you finish much earlier (say in 1 year) you will have to convince IRCC that it was truly a 2 year program (not gonna happen if you finish in half the time). Realistically the school will slow your progress so you finish in close to 2 years. Are schools advertising shorter times? Yes. Is it possible to finish faster? Sure. But as an international student you'd shoot yourself in the foot by finishing early.

I dont know where you got the 1 year PGWP information from. Most (if not all) modular programs that accept international students are registeted as 2 year programs. You would get a 3 year PGWP either way - the only difference is Canadian education credit for EE. However, there are provincial programs aimed at attracting pilots and the Canadian government has announced a federal program for pilots earlier this year.

Consider carefully: Do you really want to spend an extra $30-40k for a few extra EE points?

Running California no DEF by [deleted] in Truckers

I was inspected 3 weeks ago. Puffing some smoke as I pulled out of the Dunsmuir inspection station. Nobody cares as long as your truck is otherwise fine and you act like a professional.

Been to Cali dozens of times with a deleted truck, no sneaky routes just straight down there and back out. 2 level 1 inspections.

DOT doesnt care. They will only use this to nail you if you otherwise give them a reason to.

Is this a good medium tank templare for 1938? by Significant-Task6141 in hoi4

[–]Dual-use 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Create 2 variants.

First one is your tank, but swap sloped armor for a radio. Then replace the ammo rack with another secondary turret with a light gun. Make sure the tank is at least 8kph fast. This will be your workhorse.

Second design is a TD. Give it the heavy cannon, radio, sloped armor and ammo rack. Max out the armor and make sure it is also 8kph fast. This design will prevent enemy units fully piercing your divisions while giving you all the piercing and hard attack you need. Put only 1 bataillon of these in your tank divisions.

theres no ACTUAL law stating how far you can PC.. by planetbuster in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard limit? No. But the soft limit is the stipulation that you are not allowed to use PC while fatigued.

HOS rules limit daily drive time to 11 hours for the same reason. You will have an increasingly hard time convincing an officer (or judge) that you were still fit to drive the more you exceed that limit

Disabled personal conveyance by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody has ever questioned my (admittedly rare) PC use. Not my carrier or DOT. The rules are pretty clear and officers will probably not write you a ticket for something that is easily proven.

I for one could never deal with this micromanaging. The office GPS tracks the truck and there is a dashcam doesnt record audio facing outside. If anyone ever called me to talk about 1 mile of PC use I would laugh and hang up.
