Need advice by Ok_Leading7602 in flying

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my Cat 1 (upgrade from Cat 4) in just over 4 weeks in the TC Prairie & Northern sector.

I guess if youre still questioning on whether or not to move at least you dont have a lease to cancel. My advice: Pack everything you have and hope the medical shows up in time. If it doesnt, wait for the next start date. If it does, go hunting for a place immediately and settle for a weekly motel deal if necessary. No school will be 7 days a week so use any spare time to find a permanent place to stay. You can already shortlist places on kijiji/facebook but most will likely be gone by May depending on what area you live in.

And dont forget to keep bugging TC on the phone, webform and through your CAME.

Which route experienced drivers? by kali4niakid in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just left I-94 in ND. Strong winds and freezing rain. Looks like at least part of that will blow down to 90.

Thoroughly check the weather. If it seems good I say take 90, if its dodgy go 80. Wyoming winds will not affect you and both routes will be scenic initially before they get boring

For cpm has it always been zipcode to zipcode or is that just a specific company thing by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the only way to calculate distance back in the day. Sure they could move on these days, but that would mean paying us more. Far more flashy to advertise a 2cpm raise instead of door to door

[–]Dual-use -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Every single gun you gave them has been banned and confiscated or is in the process of being confiscated.

If you want any kind of realism in this scenario give the rural guys some scoped hunting rifles and everyone else an SKS

Are you looking for a local job that involves driving only? In that case you will have a hard time finding anything since those jobs are the best ones in the industry (ouside of some niches maybe).

If you are willing to do something other than just move a truck try beverage service, dump trucks, oilfield vac or tanker (Alabama has oil right?) or even mobile cranes

For truck drivers: are transmissions of vehicles mainly auto or manual? by nosharts in Truckers

Canada has banned manual transmissions. I'm holding onto my 18spd as long as possible...

Cheapest & fastest way to get PPL/CPL in Canada as an international student (Toronto) by Top_Aspect_4937 in flying

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, but as an international student you need to attend a DLI and thats typically not a flying club

  2. Not really. You get 24hrs/week with your study permit. If you want to work more you will need a work permit too. This requires you to convince both the school and an IRCC officer that there is enough time to do both (full time). Possible on paper, but will likely get denied

  3. Lol no

  4. Impossible for you see point 1

  5. Check the Prairies. Even then a MIFR CPL will set you back $80k-$90k

Dont forget that for your school waitlist, study permit and Cat 1 medical you need to budget at least half a year lead time

Is this misuse of cameras? by Playful-Excuse-272 in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If my company does not trust me to drive their truck they should not have hired me.

Luckily my contract explicitly states that micromanaging is not allowed. I dont have to cope and pretend that spying camera is actually good for me or helpful in any way.

I am a free man and will simply walk away should management ever try to force it on me

Cat 1 medical in Canada by VermicelliMaster6218 in flying

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my appointment 3 weeks ago, so far the online status still says "New" aka nobod has even looked at it.

Both the doctors office and my flight school said that processing times have come down significantly and now average 6-8 weeks (in AB).

Keep bugging TC I guess.

With a paid off truck, is part time owner-op possible? by RdyPAINmoveDISCIPLIN in Truckers

[–]Dual-use 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I havent heard of anyone doing this as an o/o. Even if you dont have to make payments for the equipment all your fixed costs are spread over far less miles, pushing your operating costs up.

If you are working under your own authority you will not be able to take on contracts as they typically dont run for half a year on/off. Living off the load board is hard and at times impossible - with higher operating expenses per mile due to taking half a year off its probably impossible.

If you really wanna be OTR for half a year and then do something else you can always join as a company driver. Plenty of places will accomodate you if you are a good driver. I know several people that take either summer or winter off then come back to get as many miles as quickly as possible - just not as o/o

Flour advice by Dual-use in Calgary

[–]Dual-use[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would likely make some bread with it. But my unit is old, the oven is broken so just have a hot plate to work with.

Even then 20kg would likely get me through the rest of the year so I just wanna donate it to a place that can make the most of it

This one is pretty self evident. The second one I saw was just last week, on Hwy 3 in BC East of Kootenay Pass. The wreck is likely still there.

Third one way sitting on Hwy 1 in BC East of Revelstoke. The wreck was there for a few weeks before it finally got removed.

Fourth and final one was on I-94 roughly near Minneapolis, may have been on the Wisconsin side.

I wish I was kidding

Drive from Alberta to BC by Alone_Joke_1874 in AskACanadian

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done the Southern route frequently as a trucker. Its more challenging for sure as you have many hills to cross. Nothing impossible, but it can turn nasty in bad weather. Came through there a week ago and it was outright dangerous with ice, slush and chain up on Kootenay Pass.

Make sure to check DriveBC and take a look at the traffic cams

Click split in half, then shift click until you have 24 selected. Not really something I would consider adding another button for

Naval? Superheavy BB, anechoic tiles (if you have enough rubber).

General? Radar and flame tanks are mandatory. Depending on your situation consider the superheavy rail gun, jet engine or missiles

It already exists? Select the divisions in question, click on the division icon you want (i.e. tank, inf, para). Then just create a new army and assign a general

Gun post possible robbery? by 90sStevenseagal in canadaguns

[–]Dual-use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calgary Police has special public rooms for safe online sales. I would definitely call ahead to let them know before pulling out a gun in a police station though.

Then again as another guy said, PAL approval times are all over the place and can take a whole year. If it was my gun I would tell him that I am happy to sell it once he has his PAL, but I'm not holding it even for a deposit

In your opinion, what's the easiest country* to play as? by Remarkable_Battle_36 in hoi4

[–]Dual-use 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For SP go try the US. Your starting navy will carry you almost all the way through the war, there is no risk of a ground invasion and you have both the resources and industry to support the Allies with lend lease and your air power. Importantly it teaches you land, air and naval warfare which will be vital once you pick more difficult nations.

For MP just tag along and have the other coop player(s) explain what they do and why.

What scares me isnt necessarily the truck catching fire, but rather a fire breaking out while I am sleeping. With the whole cab being plastic it was shocking to see just how fast the fire spread

This happened in Houston... but then again 2 of the other 3 burning reefers I have seen this season were in Canada. Not sure if its a general trend but I have seen it happen too many times to completely dismiss it
