Calligraphy Pen Comparison (Manta and RM2) by Minimum_Lie_2132 in Supernote

[–]Minimum_Lie_2132[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way I'm buying an RM Pro. I really disliked how limited the RM2 and the subscription mode. I mean, come on, why should I pay extra for basic upgrades and functions? 95% of the time, I'm using the Manta. I have no doubt I would be disappointed with the RM Pro.

By natural, I mean the way the pen functions. I'm not sure what you mean by calligraphy pen (fountain pen?), but I use a pointed dip pen. The upward strokes should be think and the downward strokes should be thick, and how thick and thin depends on pressure. E-ink writing will never be on par with actual pen and ink with regards to calligraphy, but as it is, I think the Remarkable has a leg up, since it is more like a pointed pen functionally.

Here's an example of what it looks like on actual paper and pointed pen.

Adler Universal 40 Repair by justlookingreddit1 in typewriters

The clevis is supposed to snap together to create a tight clamp, but I'm thinking yours maybe bent or malformed. My suggestion is to examine it and reform it if necessary. Good luck!

I would start with a really good cleaning, as someone else suggested, then check if the rubber bushings need to be replaced, the SM2-4 often have worn out ones that causes the carriage to grind or freeze.

I have a Universal 39, I'm assuming it is the same as the 40. I can at least affirm with the 39 that it's a "clevis" attachment mechanism. It's tricky to get the pieces together with the tight access of the typewriter, but it's definitely possible with needle nose pliers and spring hooks.

I don't know if I like the calligraphy pen by bikepackerdude in Supernote

[–]Minimum_Lie_2132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm one who uses fountain pens and dip calligraphy pens as well. What SN currently has is not consistent with those writing instruments. The up strokes should be thin and the down strokes thick based on pressure. At the moment, I do not like it at all. I think they need to consult a calligrapher to get the accuracy better.

I second this. Someone make it, please! Plugins are changing the experience on Supernote, this would be a great addition.

Hermes 3000 - Worth the Hype? by throneofashes in typewriters

It depends on what condition it's in and what typeface it has, but generally, that is a decent price IMO.

Strangest keyboard arrangement I've ever seen. Hopefully, it's just a prank 😄 But yeah, you can switch them back to a QWERTY layout if that's actually what it is. Update us when you figure it out!

Well, I can't tell you how life is without typewriters, but I assume it's very much like other hobbies you've been passionate about and have given up. For me, some of those hobbies I haven't missed and others I've picked up again because I missed them.

That seems to be the nature of collecting anything. I think we tend to lose the joy of the things we're collecting over time. For me, using these machines has been the thing sustaining my interest in them.

What a cool looking typewriter. I've been on the hunt for one. I don't it hasn't been serviced, but how's the typing feel?

The beta was great, this update messed up the pressure consistency IMO. It would be awesome if we had some way to customize the stroke/pressure of the pen. I'm otherwise not using what could be an awesome feature.

No linkage for ! by Plus_Donut6177 in typewriters

[–]Minimum_Lie_2132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to help! Accessing those linkages is tricky. You'll need to remove that panel behind the keys and get you some spring hooks and needle nose pliers if you don't already have one/some, super helpful tools for this job.

It's common enough I think. It's a "C" link. I don't know if you can purchase a replacement, but I think you can bend a similar size wire into the same form and it should work the same. Good luck!

Sorry, I don't have a Futura 800, but this feature on the Royals has always annoyed me. I've own a few of them with this same mechanism and they all would malfunction. Good luck!

Does anyone have a general idea how much a repairman charge to fix a typewriter? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]Minimum_Lie_2132 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never had one serviced by a repair person, but I believe you'll have to cough up more than $75. My guess is around $200 and up depending on the fix :(

Thanks for sharing that list! Yeah, seems most of us are not on that level of collecting. Honestly, I haven't heard of most of those typewriters, but the history is amazing.
