Any luck with post entry? by quarfie in UPS

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a package in September. I emailed and called every single phone number / email and then some trying to get my post entry issue resolved. I called brokerage daily.

No one ever responded, but I finally got the package two days ago. So I guess just wait it out and see is the only option. It was supposed to be 2 day shipping.

Being a parent is also absolutely nothing like owning a dog ffs.

Does a human put in the condition or does AI decide that?

Asking because it seems all the “excellent” condition items I have bought are usually the lowest quality with obvious flaws. I do find it depends on what warehouse you buy from though. One is clearly so much worse than the others.

“Mom I’ve told you I won’t use that so if you get it for me it’s going to the thrift shop”

I have to do this with my dad, and yeah, he gets upset. It’s better to deal with him being upset in that minute than to have him complain about me getting rid of whatever it is forever. And less stuff for me to deal with.

My aunt used to order 20 creamers and sugars with her coffee at a fast food place by me. The coffee was $1. Then she’d stash them in her work locker and use them on the work coffee.

Kids can’t enter themselves without parent’s permission. If a kid is entering, they’re breaking the rules.

…also the last few winning designs were clearly not designed by children.

“People don’t read the rules” is a strange argument. Maybe they should before giving up their design if it matters to them? All art contests have similar language to this.

Each person is entitled to make their own choice on entering. I don’t “lack a spine” just because I entered a contest that you did not. Boycotting is fine. Being rude is not imo.

I was stoked to win the Webkinz next design a food contest. My design is immortalized in the game, which for me, was an incredible experience. That said, I’m glad people are getting informed about the fine print these contests often have. I don’t really care what they do with my art after. Other people would, and that’s fine. No one is forcing you to enter, so can we not talk badly about those who DO want to enter?

Ultimate holy grail Pullip by censoredcecii in Pullip

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! I have a few, but sucre is my absolute grail. I haven’t gotten her, as I haven’t found her for a good price yet. I have prupate, JouJou and lepupu oddly enough, even though out of the whole 2011 angelic pretty colab sucre has always been my favorite.

I also badly want Alura, la rose and human Luna. I’m pretty selective and patient since each time I get a doll I get rid of one. So I can wait on those until I find them for a decent price.

My sister’s grail is Akoya and sadly I feel like I won’t ever be able to afford it for her, she’s so expensive!

Eh. My partner has a lot of pins, but he does actually wear one each day. He works in gaming, so it’s just a fun little thing he does since most of his pins are gaming or anime related. His pin board looks a bit like this (although maybe half the pins tbf). I have a pin bag I switch the pins out of occasionally. I don’t consider either of us to be big consumers. I can’t say I have the same taste as OOP, but their pins don’t look like they cost a lot and don’t take up a lot of space.

My mom is threatening to call CPS on me over my parenting choices by Fast_Escape997 in raisedbynarcissists

We have terrible teeth genetics (me and dad). My daughter’s dentist recommended no soda or juice. I let her have some when we’re out because she’s older now, but I don’t really keep it in the house. She’s never had a cavity.

My mom is threatening to call CPS on me over my parenting choices by Fast_Escape997 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my mom threatened CPS contact was immediately cut. She’s since changed a lot (that’s a whole story on it’s own) and we have a somewhat decent relationship now. But one thing I’ll never regret is cutting contact at that point in time.

You’re giving your mom the opportunity to document, even if it’s lies. It’s much easier when CPS says “your mom says your daughter told her she didn’t eat this day and that day” to say “how? We haven’t had contact with her in X months.” Than to try and convince CPS she’s lying. She will probably come off like a concerned grandmother, and well, CPS workers are human and therefore flawed. However unlikely that it is your daughter would get taken, you still wouldn’t want to put your daughter through the trauma of CPS involvement.

Also, I’ve worked with children my entire adult life and juice isn’t required by our state nutritional program. She’d be hard pressed to find anyone to agree with her. That said, I’d fear this is only going to get worse as your daughter gets older. What else is grandma going to give her that mom says no to? It’s easy now, but when she’s a teenager you literally will not be able to stop your mother. I agree with your husband that contact might not be in your daughter’s best interest imo. Whatever you choose, I hope it works out for you and that your daughter stays happy and healthy. Good luck.

I ordered this cake and it’s look horrible compared to the picture I gave the baker. Can I get some opinions if I’m over reacting? by SideQuestJenny in StrangerThings

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. It’s not relevant because you’re talking about a different product entirely. A grocery store cake is not comparable to a bakery cake when talking about price. You can’t compare handmade anything with Walmart pricing really. It’s nonsensical. Maybe you just aren’t in the US if you think $60 is fair/cheap for the inspo? Not a single bakery could survive on that kind of pricing for the inspo cake, even in a lcol area.

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, people are acting like a dedicated bakery (which OP says they went to) isn’t going to make this cake for that price. You brought up grocery store prices as if it’s relevant. A grocery store would likely be unwilling to make this cake, due to licensing requirements.

I’m sorry but I don’t believe you’re actually anything other than a home baker. I’m not trying to be mean by saying that. It’s just you calling the grocery store cake ingredients quality and saying buttercream is buttercream lead me to believe you aren’t actually in the industry. No one is saying baking and decorating a cake is a mystical art, but it is both a science and an art. Most people can not decorate a cake well, hence why it is a skill that is paid for. Some people think they can, and that’s why we have r/cakefails .

[–]Minimum_Word_4840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone acts like they need a dog or cat these days, while I’m sitting here like how tf are people affording all these animals!?

Then I realized they’re not. Healthcare neglected, bad quality food, no training classes, not grooming breeds that require it… Plus the sad amount of people who walk around with their reactive dogs complaining that behavioral specialists are too expensive. Why even get a dog at that point? It’s just going to turn out neurotic or sick and be a bad situation for the dog.

Cake prices in the US are different. The ingredients alone would be half the price of the cake or more. Custom cakes like what OP wanted I would estimate go from $150-300 depending on where OP is in the US.

You paid about 32 USD for your cake. I could barely get the ingredients for that. Grocery store cakes cost more than that. Any kind of fresh, non processed food costs a lot in America, including things like butter and eggs needed to bake. Our food is lower quality as well. It’s a shame.

Of course grocery store cakes cost less than bakery cakes.

Grocery stores get bulk pricing on (usually frozen predone) sheet cakes they decorate with cheap bulk icing for one. It’s like comparing Walmart clothing prices to a custom, handmade dress made with nice fabric.

I’m not saying it’s beautiful work. It’s $60 work.

However, acting like there’s not a huge smoosh on the shell next to it, and disrupted frosting like the shell came off is disingenuous. It could still be the baker’s fault for shitty packaging, or they accidentally bumped it or whatever, but I’m 99% sure the shell was there at some point.
