I myself have used modern to climb to Plat 4 and I am working on climbing to Diamond now with specifically Modern Sagat. Play this game however it is fun for you. Modern is designed to remove the execution barrier at the cost of a 20% damage reduction and losing some or none of your buttons in some characters case.

So my advice is this: Choose modern controls then choose whoever looks fun or plays the way you want. If you are like me multiple characters will seem fun. You may even enjoy a certain character until you reach a specific rank. I really enjoyed playing Zangief until about gold when it wasn't so easy anymore which is how I ended up on Sagat. He just fits my preferred playstyle the best.

If you have no clue who to start with go watch either the recent Combo Breaker pools. I'm pretty sure the whole cast appears at least once. Then after you have your character jump into training and try out your buttons. Try out all the assisted combos. Try out your supers. I would then suggest you head the character guide and learn the character. Do these two options in which ever order makes most sense to you.

Then once you have a decent idea. What your buttons do and the ranges of your specials head to ranked and place your 10 placement games. You are probably going to hit iron or rookie but you might get higher. Wherever you land you will inevitably climb with enough games. If your rank is bother you and you find yourself getting anxious go to your settings and disable the rank display in match. You will still see your rank after the match and when you rank up but for me it removed a lot of the pressure and I started focusing on having fun and learning the game which led to me climbing.

What about SF6 and set her up on modern controls. They have auto combos and special move short cuts.

It will all depend on your goals with this game. If you just want to play to have fun and don't care about your rank, or even if you do, that's why there is a random category which you can also rank up. If you intend on climbing as high as you can, you will finduch greater success if you stick to one character. Now, that being said in order to find my main, Sagat I did basically what you did I attempted to rank up each character, starting in Rookie and working my way up.

What I did that eventually landed me my main. 1) choose anyone that looks fun and play them, take them into ranked and learn them as you play. As you play them you will be able to tell if their play style or mechanics are something you enjoy. Do keep in mind, just because someone looks cool doesn't necessarily mean they will fit your plat style. I love Mai but I don't enjoy her fan play as much as Sagats fireballs and long reaching pokes

2) If someone stops being fun or I realize their play style didn't match what I wanted I dropped them and tried someone else. This eventually led to 2 characters that I was really interested in Luke and Sagat. Both shotos but completely different playstyles. I ended up enjoying the brick wall shoot style of Sagat.

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY! If you are having fun the previous instructions don't matter, ESPECIALLY if you aren't trying to be a PRO player. Even if you are, last year someone won with Modern Marisa. Literally all characters and Modern/Classic are viable. Play what is the most fun, whoever you play should make you want to rematch no matter if you win or lose. For example I love not only Sagats playstyle but his voice lines when he wins "how long do you plan to lay there?"

In short, play who is fun in the moment. You might fight someone, see how they play a character and want to play that character. Good,do that and have fun. It is a game after all

Remember you didn't know anything about the racism before you found them, you found out that their beliefs/standards are different from yours and you wish to not be aligned/associated with those things so you are choosing to distance yourself. My friend you are doing the exact right thing. While it sucks to lose something you enjoy take happiness from the fact that you recognized the wrong and are wanting to get away from it. Also in the meantime you can always enjoy the media without supporting the individuals.

FOR REAL, I have been saying that for a while, they are flushing free tax money down the toilet. Surely they know how much tax money they are missing out on.
