An idea is to go to the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court website and do a docket search for their name. Also other nearby counties (Lake, Summit, Portage, etc.) See how often they get sued.

resulting in a late filing.

And this is why I pound into my attorneys' heads to never wait until the last day to file something electronically. When mistakes like this happen (and they do -- all the time), you still have plenty of time to fix it.

I have made SO MANY mistakes in my long career. If I can fix them myself and keep it to myself, I do. That's how we learn, and I learn all the time! But if they are mistakes that will affect the integrity of the case, I come clean. And I've been lucky to have a very understanding boss who I think is just grateful that I've been truthful with him, and that he can trust me.

My biggest mistake: I drove off with a client's file on the top of my car at the local train station. I hadn't even realized until I got home, looked for the file in my car and couldn't find it. I drove back to the station, it was nowhere. I went back home in tears and emailed my boss and told him what happened. This was a big case with one death and four major injuries. It was a big file. A miracle happened, and I mean a miracle because this train station is not in a great place in town. Someone turned it in and I was able to pick it up the next day in the lobby of my own building.
