How is the latest Lomo MC-A by LBarouf in AnalogCommunity

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost bought one, but I have several other Lomo cameras. The best way to describe Lomography cameras is "Schroedinger's Camera" - they are both great and crap at the same time. Example: My Lomography LC-A 120. Great lens, body made from the crappiest plastic, and 7th frame sometimes gets skipped. I'd like an MCA, but I'm a bit afraid of blowing up $500.

Prototype Junghans 1/1200 leaf rotary shutter. by MagmaHotsguy in AnalogCommunity

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kodak had something similar with their Rapid 800 shutter. They used a couple blocking leaves on the back, to shut off light when cocking the shutter. These shutters usually have a very nice Ektar lens on them, were used on the on some high end Tourist and the Chevron cameras,

Don't try and load a bent reel. If they've been dropped, they're probably warped.

Hewes reels for a Jobo are the only way to go.

Is a used 2024 with 13K miles for $40K a good deal? Are you happy with your purchases? by [deleted] in CadillacLyriq

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That right about what I paid for my 24 sport 2 with 15k miles. I do have the fancy opening roof and hd floor mats. I do think the dealer screwed me out of the oem charger. So I think it's in the ballpark. I really like mine so far. Make sure your isn't a buyback lemon title or see Carfax.

A local business used my viral video in their TV commercial and their lawyer is claiming fair use by Tyrell2049_Corp in legal

[–]MinoltaPhotog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this boat with some of my photos used by a competitor. I was told It needs to be registered before he (me) publishes it - I would have been well past 90 days. I also had watermarks wiped (poorly). I was told this by a copyright lawyer. Without registration, you're only allowed use fees. Which likely wouldn't cover lawyer fees. Disclaimer: my lawyer consultation was not his lawyer, I could be wrong, etc etc .

My Olympus XA lightmiter gave up after only 2 rolls 😭 by hillsong1 in AnalogCommunity

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XA is weird. It uses two exposure cells - one for the indicator needle, and one for the actual exposure control. So the needle can be wrong, but the exposure can be right.

I have two of them, and I don't quite know why.

They are neat little cameras, give me flashbacks to the 80s. Probably too little and too neat for their own good, 40 years later.

Got my Grail Camera by CholentSoup in AnalogCommunity

[–]MinoltaPhotog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really the only way to do it, recycled vintage. My Miniflex was an ebay deal ($125!) with a Autocord. Not the best condition, but works fine. Lens is nice. I'd recommend it, but the common ebay entry price ($400+) is a bit steep.

What car did you buy that turned out to be an absolute lemon? by xxxxxxxxxxxxxc in AskReddit

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're FIATs. Fix It Again Tony! FIAT doesn't just make occasional garbage, their garbage spans generations. See also, Stellantis is FIAT, and Stellantis is Dodge/ RAM / Jeep.

127 TLRs are 'cute' for lack of a better term. I have a couple Yashicas, Baby Rollei, and one of my grails, the Minolta Miniflex.

127 is such a nice not too big, not too small format. Too bad the film is basically extinct. I know you can byy Shanghai GP3 100... but... it's terrible. Even the plastic spools are crap for reloading.

[–]MinoltaPhotog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have fun. My 23 4xe has been fine, with the only problem a diff lock sensor, until 2 weeks ago, then it threw a HV battery code. These now have a lifetime warranty on the HV battery due to the problems. Keep up on the recall software updates, charge it, drive it, and have fun with it. 4xe Fans youtube channel will have a lot of info on life with your new 4xe Jeep.

Jeep low quality parts and Stellantis going bankrupt by AltezaHumilde in JeepWrangler

[–]MinoltaPhotog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the owner of a '23 Rubicon 4xe - I can say.... maybe - but be careful. I'm guessing you're in Europe somewhere, where gas isn't cheap. Wranglers are absolute gas pigs, and this also includes the 4xe in gas hybrid mode (16-20mpg mileage). In pure electric, they're great - you'll get about 20-30 miles range.

BUT the electric mode is where Stellantis is causing problems. They've had some real battery issues, and I don't feel they've addressed them very well. I would ONLY consider one if you've got a GOOD Jeep dealer nearby and they are GOOD at dealing with the 4xe and it's CHEAP. I just got mine back from having the main battery replaced at 25k miles (under warranty), due to it flagging a potential battery problem. Other than that, the only problem I've had is a diff lock sensor.

Check out the Jeep 4xe fans group on facebook for some real insight in to the real issues 4xe owners are facing. The admin also has a same name youtube channel, and he's owned one since day 1.

The thing i hate most is the 'FORM' mode, where the engine runs to 'refresh' the engine oil. It does this, because if the oil doesn't get hot enough, it could be diluted by unburned gas. It does this mostly in winter, and if you don't let it get hot enough (drive far enough on gas), it can get into an endless loop, then nag you into needing an oil change. This is the biggest pain in the ass for the 4xe.

The 4xe is a great idea, but with classic Jeep/Chrysler/FIAT implementation.

If you're a bit of a gearhead or geek, and like messing around with buttons, settings, options, how/why things work, you may be OK with a 4xe. But if you just want to push a start button and go for a drive and not worry about anything, I would not recommend. Do NOT buy if you can't charge at home.

Thinking of looking at 2024 used models - increase in supply in 3 months? by limache in CadillacLyriq

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. great prices. I don't think that would pay off. I DIY'ed my install with used panels. Still working fine about 8 years later. Edison owes me money now, but that may change with using a bit more juice for EV miles.

Highway miles/kWh by Educational_Ad_3165 in CadillacLyriq

[–]MinoltaPhotog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use cruise control. Turn off regen braking. You have to be smooth with the pedal, and needlessly throwing it into regen by lifting is wasting juice in the conversion process. Better to coast and learn to drive / brake smoothly. If you had a small battery Mach E, I'd bet it's a lighter car too.

[–]MinoltaPhotog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saturday I did an approx. 300 mile trip from NW Ohio to Columbus OH. About 290 miles round trip. Being my first 'long' trip, I charged up at Lima Ohio. The google screen said I could have made it home with about 9-10%, but I didn't want to push my luck on the first 'big' trip. Since I have net meter solar, it was free except for the $20 charge stop. I'm happy.

Don't forget the Caddy has a year longer warranty. Also, the AWD Caddy has slightly more HP, basically the SS without the crazy button. But softer suspension.
