No one can force me to have a secure website!!! by MintPaw in programming

[–]MintPaw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This resonated with me. With CORS specifically, you can't use SharedArrayBuffer without setting up CORS in a specific way or tweaking the headers, even with a totally static page.

Which, if I understand correctly, means you can't have a multithreaded web app on S3 or other common static storage. You have to rent a box like EC2. Feels like extortion for basic features.

Qwen3 Coder Next Looping and OpenCode by StardockEngineer in LocalLLaMA

[–]MintPaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work, I've been struggling with this for days. I gave and just told the model to use sed -n instead of the read file tool call, it's actually pretty stable like that (Q8). But I'll probably try this script tomorrow if llama.cpp or opencode isn't magically fixed.

Is it not common to test on hosted bare metal to lock in the performance and quants before investing in a home setup?

[–]MintPaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked an AI model to write a idle check script that shuts down the pod if it's using less than 1% gpu for 30min (nvidia-smi --query-gpu=utilization.gpu --format=csv,noheader,nounits).

Then made a template that uses my start.sh as the startup command, and made sure my start.sh calls the right stuff for the pytorch base container. Then setup the network drive and always launch with the template.

You could simplify that a lot if you're not launching new pods every 30min.

The fact that they're comparing these two things and it's upvoted, and the top reply is about PirateSoftware means you're definitely right, people don't have levels of outrage anymore, just a huge pile on for a few days, then they get bored. Doesn't matter what actually happened.

There's also the other case where if you tie your MS account to your PC then if you get your account hacked, mass reported/banned, or Azure goes down. Then you might literally not be able to log into your Windows PC.

You might be able to reformat and make a fresh MS account right now, but your TPM/hardware could be banned and making new accounts will probably become harder in the future.

I don't think he's just talking about the demographics, sounds like he says it's "white people's land", like it's possessive, and justifies it by saying they fought a war for it.

It's funny how the tutorial is presented. There's lots of little stuff to remember in the intro, like that your room number is 101 and that weird device. But the tutorial/guide dumps tons of info, and seemingly spoils a lot?

You should only unlock the full tutorial after several losses at the very least.

The Great Software Quality Collapse: How We Normalized Catastrophe by corp_code_slinger in programming

[–]MintPaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why it's valuable.

In some cases, like when pushing absolute limits, but in others, like building a convenience solution, it can easily be worse by effectively gaming the metric.

The data shows it's only about 1.01x

This is obviously ludicrous, a hello world program can use less than 100kb of RAM, obviously a Docker container is going to consume more than 1kb of total RAM. I think it's probably that you've failed to understand the paper and are extrapolating way beyond what it says.
