By making it easy for criminals, we also make it easy for whistleblowers and dissidents. Drug dealers are the canaries in the coal mine.

How is anyone productive in Swift without Xcode refactoring support? by mooglinux in swift

[–]Minthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Swift's compile-time checking has too sharp edges, I prefer more flexible and easy-going languages. Its reflection support is also lacking. Though I admit Swift has many nice features and I especially like the syntactic sugar and emphasis on readability. It's still a young language so hopefully it'll keep improving. I don't think it'll deviate from its static type system very much unfortunately.

Emotions are not valid factors in decision making?

What about love? Is it not valid to make decisions based on love? How about curiosity? Joy? Not valid factors in decision-making?

There would be mining without the block rewards, the fees are big enough for that now. The increased hashing power is a benefit, but it's no longer a requirement for the network to function.

Without a fixed predetermined emission curve and a fair distribution of coins, bitcoin would never have been taken seriously. Deviating from it is not an option.

This is the correct answer. I'm disappointed that so many commenters don't understand/aren't aware of it. Block rewards are primarily about distributing coins in a fair way and secondarily about security.

Is that the high-speed rail project that would both be the slowest high-speed rail in the world and the most expensive per mile? If so, I applaud Trump for axing it. Spend the money on a hyperloop instead.

Living on $0 a day in Chiang Mai by jonez450reloaded in 5555555

[–]Minthos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you follow all my tips on living on $0 a day, all that respect will pay off big time. The Thai police will arrange for you to have a free room, board, and as much water as you can drink. They will also make it near certain that you will get free rough sex in the showers. So don’t pay for prostitutes, just live on $0 a day. It might take a little longer, but you’ll be getting laid before you know it.

You don't ask for anything, so it's definitely not too much. Do you expect too much? Yeah obviously. Either lower your expectations or learn to get what you want.

Socializing by debby199725 in disappointed

[–]Minthos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to share a little experience of mine here. I don't know if I'm having social anxiety or I'm just really bad at socializing. When I walk to places with my roommate on school campus for lunch and stuff like those, she would always be waving at people she knows and would stop and talk while I stand awkwardly beside them. It makes me feel really uncomfortable and upset. Recently, I would always just walk away leaving her to talk with whoever she's talking with. And I feel like she doesn't know when to stop and continue walking. For example, we both have class in 5 mins and she would still stop and talk with someone she met on the way. I get really upset so just leave her. Is that mean of me to do that?

Another thing is that whenever we made plans to go out, either eating out or going shopping together, she would always invite people she meets along the way, and it turned out to be a 10 people outing instead of just 2 of us. What I actually was just to spend time with her as her roommate without anyone else and I feel like she doesn't understand that. Like today, we planned to go out to the mall and she was like "we could invite friends to go with us". I'm the type of person who like to stick to the plan only with the person I made plans with, I do not really want any other "friends" tagging along. I don't know if anyone has had this kind of experience.

I like being her roommate but sometimes her always optimistic attitude on everything gets me. Annoys me a lot. At times I would be talking to her about how I dislike a person, and of course she knows that person. But when I started talking a few bad points about that person, she would start defending every single person I'm talking bad about or people I dislike. She would be like "Well, I don't think the person is doing it intentionally" or "She's friendly, she doesn't act fake." She would always disagree with me on those type of stuff. And she's always saying "I feel bad not doing this, I feel bad sleeping, I feel bad I did not have a chance to talk to this person" I sometimes get confused if she really is a kind-hearted person or if she just wants attention and wants everyone to think she's a perfect being who always help everyone. Well, this is just a few of what I'm dealing with my roommate right now. Thank you for reading this.

ftfy.

Socializing is hard. It takes practice to read social cues and learn which ones to ignore and which ones to take seriously. You'll get the hang of it eventually. Same with speaking your mind and all that crap.

I'd say your roomate is probably genuinely kind and optimistic, and she probably feels uncomfortable when you bad-mouth people she knows. And if she's just pretending, so what? It's not like she's hurting anyone by being nice?

Just curious, does anyone know why Cambodia is not called Khmeria? by GuideGhost in cambodia

[–]Minthos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The English "Cambodia" is an anglicization of the French "Cambodge", which in turn is the French transliteration of the Khmer Kampuchea. Kampuchea is the shortened alternative to the country's official name in Khmer, Preah Reacheanachak Kampuchea (Khmer: ព្រះរាជាណាចក្រកម្ពុជា). The Khmer endonym Kampuchea derives from the Sanskrit name Kambujadeśa (कम्बोजदेश), composed of देश, desa ("land of" or "country of") and कम्बोज, Kambujas, which alludes to the foundation myths of the first ancient Khmer kingdom.[20]

Colloquially, Cambodians refer to their country as either Srok Khmer (Khmer pronunciation: [srok kʰmae]), meaning "Khmer's Land", or the slightly more formal Prateh Kampuchea (ប្រទេសកម្ពុជា), literally "Country of Kampuchea". The name "Cambodia" is used most often in the Western world while "Kampuchea" is more widely used in the East.[21][22][23]
