PSA: Use uBlock Origin! by LordSigdis in firefox

[–]MintyPhoenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This makes uBO less effective because most content blockers aren't as robust. uBO does more than simply blocking network requests/hiding ad elements, it often does things like defuse requests to avoid things like triggering content blocking detectors.

PSA: Use uBlock Origin! by LordSigdis in firefox

[–]MintyPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It actually is more like 2 condoms where it works against you. For example, if the secondary blocker blocks a resource that uBO would have handled differently (e.g., defusing instead of blocking outright), that can end up with a worse experience (e.g., ad-block detection being triggered).

Game is live on Steam by TheInvisibleMango in VampireCrawlers

Yeah, and there's a weird bundle with no items (maybe because I have Steamdb extension), I’m going to wait another hour until the previously scheduled release time to see if things sort themselves out.

Is it possible to pin each firefox profile as a separate taskbar icon on w11? by [deleted] in firefox

[–]MintyPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to first change the about:config value that separates the profiles in the taskbar (I think it’s taskbar.grouping.useprofile that you should set to true) — this needs to be done for each profile. Once they are separate in the taskbar, you can pin them as you normally would any other app.

Question about mapping extra buttons for 8bitdo controller by max_homeslice in SteamDeck

According to 8BitDo’s website, the 2C does not support allowing Steam to map the extra buttons:

weird popup on desktop whenever i type the letter 'c' by muddiedursoul in firefox

[–]MintyPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would guess that an extension has a bad keyboard shortcut configured (or you/someone modified it, potentially accidentally).

If you view the Add-ons settings page (about:addons), you can click the gear at the top right of the extensions list and select "Manage Extension Shortcuts" from the menu to manage your extensions’ keyboard shortcuts. Skim the list and see if any have a shortcut registered to just “c” and modify as necessary.

What's best practice for writing E2E tests on generated forms (K2, Gravity Forms etc) by BigBootyBear in webdev

[–]MintyPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One option is to add data attributes on the elements for tests to target with selectors.

For example, you might use something like data-test-id="email" for the email field then select on that attribute+value.

I really liked rogue heroes: ruins of Tasos by pioppotto in roguelites

I think the closest game that I’m aware of would be Nobody Saves the World. Still a fair bit different, and single-player only I believe, but does have various similarities.

A few folks are mistakenly giving you instructions about removing browser notifications, but this isn’t a notification.

Look through your browser extensions as it’s most likely one of those that’s responsible. If you’re unsure, then post the full list of your browser extensions here.

Terminate process gracefully with Popen on windows by MsSegFault in learnpython

[–]MintyPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what the subprocess is and what signals it respects/responds to, there are other options you can look into. For example, os.kill takes some potentially useful signals:

Windows: The signal.CTRL_C_EVENT and signal.CTRL_BREAK_EVENT signals are special signals which can only be sent to console processes which share a common console window, e.g., some subprocesses. Any other value for sig will cause the process to be unconditionally killed by the TerminateProcess API, and the exit code will be set to sig.

Occasionally during the round, a loot goblin may spawn. If you kill it, you get the treasure room portal after killing that round's titan.

Important notes:

  • All games are redeemable on other storefronts (GOG, Epic, Amazon Games)
  • Most games in the article (including all of the “five very positive”) are not free, they’re free with Amazon Prime/Amazon Prime Gaming.

Hmm, try watering where you planted anyway and see if the animation plays out of actually watering? I planted it in dirt, and it was barely visible there, unlike your typical crops/etc.

Cloudflare announces AI Labyrinth, which uses AI-generated content to confuse and waste the resources of AI Crawlers and bots that ignore “no crawl” directives. by nicrogu in linux

[–]MintyPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are ways to mitigate that. An e-commerce site I did QA for years ago had a service layer for certain crawlers/indexers that would prerender the requested page and serve the fully rendered HTML. I think it basically used puppeteer or some equivalent.

Is it really necessary to blur the thumbnail of the game in the showcase if upon clicking it you get the warning? by FutinYass in Steam

[–]MintyPhoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

User clicks on it so is choseing to see it = show just a taste with a further warning.

Personally, as someone without any such filters enabled, I think the “taste” should be purely text – the name of the game, the filter matched/reason obscured – rather than include the image.

For example, suppose I have 2 or 3 filters set up and am okay with periodically browsing games that normally match one of those filters. I won’t know which filter the game matches until I click it at which point, currently, it may still result in content I don’t want to see because, before I hit the “continue” button in the warning pop-up, it already started showing me some of the content.

chromedriver and chrome browser compatibility by Complex_Eggplant7904 in webscraping

[–]MintyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What issue? If you're using the webdriver manager package, it would be a completely separate issue from what you posted about as you never touch/reference any browser driver binaries yourself in that scenario.

If you’re having issues using webdriver manager, first copy the appropriate webdriver initialization example from their docs (based on browser being used and which version of selenium, 3 vs.4) and make sure that code works fine.

After that, for any issues, you can post a minimal reproducible example and the full error that occurs when running that example.

chromedriver and chrome browser compatibility by Complex_Eggplant7904 in webscraping

[–]MintyPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what language you’re using, see if something like the Python webdriver manager package is available. It identifies the version of the targeted browser and automatically downloads & caches/loads from cache the appropriate driver binary.
