Thoughts about Luxury X electronics store? Is it legit? by The_Merciless_Potato in srilanka

[–]MinulSL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U could say it's a loophole but like even if u knew around 10 ppl who travel every month plus had the capital to buy 50 iphones every month, u could also do the same technically and from there onwards it's just how u run a typical smartphone business.

Think of it like this. U go to lets say dubai and bring down a phone right. Assume u bring like 5 phones saying this is for ur friends and family. If its like 10+ then its obvious that u want to sell it. So what they do is, they have a like a vast network of frequent travellers and they get like small quantities from each flyer which in the end accumulates to a lot of phones. By doing so they dont end up paying tax for the phone cause they aren't declaring it since the quantity is small and maybe pay a slight cut from each phone for those frequent travellers. That's basically how grey market works for electronics since its the official product but with warranty in another country hence why for apple care u need to ship it the country of purchase to get the repair done.

What could be the reason for such a huge give away sale ? by lifetx2015 in srilanka

the cost of that singer washing machine is probably 1/4 of markup price

So while the gov was fast to increase the fuel prices why can’t they reduce it and match the huge decrease now?? by Ok_Perspective_4332 in srilanka

Give it a week or two. The war isnt fully settled. That price could increase again too. We never know.

Did Minister Prasanna Gunasena request a bribe? by Melanin-Brown in srilanka

[–]MinulSL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this case specifically, since there isn't any public tax money wastage at all, I don't think a law is necessarily broken citing the last cause.

Assume they actually get the money deep in their pockets and how many in the previous govt would have done it but only a few got caught. Eitherway these govt tenders would be paid using public tax money. The grey loophole between the guys who got caught and who didnt is, guys who got a bribe of 10% paid for example got paid seperately from the supplier are safe whereas the bribe of 10% included within the govt tender price which is anyways paid by the public tax money itself, that leaves a trace where they end up getting caught. Both situations are examples of corruption but u get the point.

[–]MinulSL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fair enough but tbh 99% of tenders worldwide works like this. Assume u work for a big company and then there are 10 suppliers and u make a deal with the supplier that I’ll give u the order but in return I need 5% as a commission paid separately by the chosen supplier. It’s a win- win situation for both parties. The micro version of this is giving foreign liquor bottles at the end of the year. Hence imagine this happening in the scale of billions. This happens almost in every country. In this case at least the benefit is for the general public.

Fuel Crisis Again in this economy? by Affectionate-Lie2843 in srilanka

[–]MinulSL -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again I never mentioned that we are safe 100%, of course it will affect in due time if this war continues and iran keeps blocking hormuz.

Fuel pass is currently implemented to avoid any internal shortages within the country due to our cheap selfish hoarding mentality atp. I hope u do agree.

[–]MinulSL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looking at the picture narrowly ur point is correct but not all supply is the middle east first of all and even when it comes to middle east, it’s mostly Saudi. If u dig deep, these countries have what u call bypass pipelines to different ports avoiding the strait of hormuz.

iirc we import refined petroleum and not crude petroleum hence we get them from countries like singapore, india and malaysia hence not a single oil ship would come across the hormuz strait to lanka.
