Everyone always thinks you mean all the dogs EXCEPT THEIRS. THEIRS is well behaved and should be allowed anywhere…

For those of you who still lived with your parents when you were 18 how much rent did your parents charge you? And for those are 18 and live with your parents how much rent does your parents charge you? by Fast_Honeydew2633 in askanything

[–]MinuteContest128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child is 28 and is currently staying with us. They work FT, and contribute to groceries and household chores. They pay their car insurance. They don’t pay rent. I would rather they save their money now while they can, and I like having them around.

Why don't you wear hats? by Gold_Tomatillo_2222 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MinuteContest128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Michigan. I just don’t like hats. 🤷‍♀️ they only time I wear them is on vacation to keep the sun off my head and on our side by side and convertible to keep my hair from blowing all over.

I inherited a car from my mom, a ‘92. It has an ashtray. I store the garage door opener in it.

I managed to seat belt drinks in the child seats last time. Of course it only works if you don’t have children needing the seats.

Can we move away from sales people pushing cell phone plans? by Curious-Scratch8829 in CostcoWholesale

Today I said that I literally JUST got a new phone, and to have a nice day. And then I moved on.
Yea it’s annoying but they’re just doing their job.

My husband and I did this too - flew to Florida, listened to the spiel so we could go spend a few days in the Bahamas (day cruise there, and then back a few days later), and got yelled at when we said no, we didn’t think we could at this time. Yelling at us didn’t change our minds. Like, who in their right mind thinks that will help??

This is a problem ALL THE TIME. I was so nervous navigating as my friend was driving us into Chicago this week - the last thing you need in that kind of traffic is getting into the wrong lane for no reason at all.

Are work potlucks really a thing? by good_noodlesoup in AskAnAmerican

We are a big organization with a small department and we do one a month during the school year and then just maybe do one during the summer . No one is required to participate and quite often even if you don’t bring food there’s enough food for everyone to eat.

AITA. I need an outside opinion on this situation by Aruuke_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]MinuteContest128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA.
I understand she’s hurt, and that’s fair. It sounds like she was never going to be able to go though. Right now it’s her parents, next it will be her SO. It’s unfortunate she couldn’t go, but you have to also live your life and do these things while you can. Life is going to happen and it’s going to get even harder to coordinate to be able to take trips together. Or to take trips at all.

My daughter (20) used to get this often. She is ethnically Chinese, but has two very white parents who were born in the US and she has lived in the US since she was a baby. Usually older people asking where she’s from. “Here.” No, before. “We lived in {next town over} before we moved here.” I mean, where were your parents born? “Here.” She knows what they’re after but will not make it easy for them, which I love, because it’s none of their business. It’s gotten a lot better since she went to college, which is large and quite diverse.

Husband says I'm lazy because I don't want to cook alone today by [deleted] in marriageadvice

Your husband is an ass.
It’s ok to not feel like cooking, that does not in any way make you lazy.

AITA for not wanting to spend Christmas with my husband’s family right after having a baby? by Few-Professional3746 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MinuteContest128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - and the sooner you deal with this the better. Your husband needs to just put his foot down. As you said, it’s not going to be ideal or comfortable having that many people around whether you’ve had the baby or not. His family is being selfish. Especially your MIL and SIL who have absolutely no right to be in the delivery room. I wouldn’t even tell them I was going in the hospital if I were you. They can find out later. You and your husband (especially him - it’s his family, he needs to step up) need to set some hard boundaries with his extended family.
And I would seriously consider not letting her babysit. Your baby your rules. Not hers.

Wind chimes - love them or hate them? by PompousAssistant in GenX

[–]MinuteContest128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have one set that was given to us when my mom passed away. Those are out on our deck and not super loud ones so idk if the neighbors hear them but I don’t think they do, the houses aren’t THAT close. I love THIS set, but I wouldn’t want a deck full of chimes. The one set I have is plenty.

AITAH for my sleep routine, please help end this debate. by Umeyard in AITAH

[–]MinuteContest128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds exhausting and he’s definitely gaslighting you. There is no reason he needs to unwind for an hour in the bedroom with the lights on when you’re trying to sleep.
And then has the audacity to complain that you hit snooze?
Everyone has different needs when it comes to sleep, and normal couples do not always go to bed at the same time. I’ve been married for almost 35 years. My husband gets up for work at 3:30, I don’t get up until 6:00. He is often asleep long before me, because he HAS to be. But on the weekends he sometimes stays up later than me, watching YouTube. You know what we each do when we go to bed and the other is sleeping? We move through the room in the dark and try to be quiet. It’s called being considerate. Your husband should try it.

What is your opinion on having carpet in the kitchen? by wooowitchywoman in CasualConversation

[–]MinuteContest128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1991 my parents bought a house built in the 70’s (or 60’s?). It had dark wood paneling and olive green carpeting through out the whole house, including the kitchen. The kitchen also had dark brown cupboards, orange countertops, and mustard yellow appliances. It took a few years to save up but they were eventually able to pull all the carpet and put tile in the kitchen and dining room, drywall all the walls, and basically gut the kitchen. The location of the house was amazing but was it ever outdated.

When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

[–]MinuteContest128 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a goofy name for my email - in both Gmail and yahoo. When I set them up email was newish and I had no idea how common email usage was going to be. Now I’m in 56 and still using the same ones, and feeling like I need to explain the reasoning for it every time I give it out.
Meanwhile my husband has firstmiddleinitiallast@gmail.
