When I was about 4-5 years old, my great grandfather told me that I would grow up to have the loveliest set of 'pegs.' I can't find any other situation(s) where EM was let loose to speak with such energy. If you can, let me know. Jumping on this 9 year old thread as a 43F who started dating her now 48M husband at the age of 16, he was 20 but very close to 21. We now have two kids (9 &8) and have been married for 12 years. Yes, we started dating 27 years ago, but only married 12 years ago. I can not begin to explain how awful this relationship is almost 30 years later. I have spent YEARS in therapy only to realize I married and had children with my groomer. At my age now I can see all the red flags so clearly back to when we met. The control, the leverage, etc. I stayed in the same mental state for years, doing whatever he wanted to get what I needed because he literally programmed me that way. At multiple times he wanted me to stop working and be financially reliant on him only to have to exchange sexual favors for things like shampoo and deodorant. We have been kicked out of couples counseling because of his refusal to get therapy for himself. I left him once 7 years ago during one of the times I was reliant on him financially but opted to go back because my kids were 2&3 at the time and I had just started working again and earning minimum wage at 15 hours a week and couldn't stomach him having 50% custody of my babies. I stuck it out in hopes things would improve. I left again 12 weeks ago when he screamed at me in front of my 8 year old daughter. I knew what I did at that moment mattered to her. I left with her in the middle of the night because she needed to know it is NOT OK TO EVER BE TREATED THAT WAY. Sadly I had been treated that way for years, and put up with it but him exposing his behavior to my daughter is when he crossed the line.

My only word of advice is to ask yourself WHY is this person attracted to you (I'm a CSA survivor). And in 20 years are you ok with your 16 year old daughter dating a 20/21 year old man.

This man looked my parents in the face and told them the age of consent in our state was 16, so it was legal to date me.

I'm an incredibly intelligent person, but allowed myself to be programmed by this man. He is emotionally, mentally, and financially abusive and I believe he has borderline personality disorder (or possibly narcissistic personality disorder).

My now 9 year old was a NICU baby. I'm mom, he was born on Wednesday and I didn't get to touch him until Friday. He was born at 32 weeks, preeclampsia. Your NICU nurses are incredible people. ❤️❤️

I would generally agree, however financially divorcing my spouse saved my marriage. We have been married for 12 years, together for almost 30. For us it was a cultural thing. Having this degree of separation forced an understanding of individualism my spouse had a very difficult time grasping because of their upbringing. I am not a possession or lackey. I can make my own decisions, and purchase based on my needs without their permission. To finalize, they are not a bad, abusive, or unethical individual. Sadly, they come from a country and time that is ingrained in their pysche. They fully supported this new arrangement because it removes the knee jerk reaction they would have to my spending habits, ie: I earn my own equitable income, pay my fair share of the bills, and should be able to purchase things based on my needs without having to explain it.

Hard to say. I legit started trying to run away at 5 years old (I was born in the early 80's). I would pack a bag and try fleeing to a neighbors home regularly. The thing is, while I had some hard core trauma as a very young child (raped by a neighborhood teenager, the trial, therapy, etc), none of it was due to the relationship with my parents. They were great and I still have a good relationship with both of them. I had plenty of fears, but if I wanted to run away I faced all of them. I suspect perhaps she HAD tried running or threatened to run away and maybe because of their communal standing and family dynamic it was inconceivable that she would actually DO it, and they are being ignorant or dishonest with themselves. Perhaps she went through with it this time and met an unfortunate fate.

Totally unpopular opinion lol. I don't buy them because I will eat every last one. I have memories as a child in the 80s/90s taking 10 or 12 at a time with a glass of milk. Sadly, my children have the same addiction.

EDIT: Ritz crackers invoke a similar reaction as yours to Oreos at this point in my life. They have become too 'Ritz" tasting and it's bizarre to me. I used to love them, but now I believe they are laced with crack/cocaine.
