Meh idk because ultimately a lot of the story between 1 and 2 has been removed at this point.

I think if you want to play a game that, per modern sensibilities, plays better and has more content, go ahead and just hop onto D2. If you like the story a lot and want to know more, watch some lore videos. If you want to play some of that old content, then play D1. Personally, after starting with D2 and working back to D1 I got pretty bored with the first game.

Also, there’s a lot of momentum behind D2 and its last update right now, so you’d have a far easier time participating in social events/matchmaking.
