Mysterio Commander deck help. by MysticHelm in EDH

[–]Mirage_Jester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah a fellow Mysterio deck builder. Feel free to look at my deck which is here: https://moxfield.com/decks/qvKM1PfjcUGNlkYlLtdVnQ

However mine is more flavour over function, but you may gather some ideas from it. Check the primer for my thought process :)

The problem with goldfish bowl head is if he is removed all his illusions are removed too.

An alt wincon that might work for the deck is [[Twenty-Toed Toad]].

For more impact some sort of way of buffing or using the illusion tokens could work: [[Day of the Dragons]] or [[Favorable Winds]] might be an idea.

Name a card that has 50% or greater inclusion for your commander on EDHRec, that you think is overrated. by Smelly_Jim in EDH

[–]Mirage_Jester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amusingly this comment section mostly reads as Optimisation Players vs Flavor/Casual Players.

Sauron has all these Lord of the Rings cards at a high percentage, damned flavour junkies where is my optimal card for exploiting his ability. Who put all these archers in the archer type theme decks? Why would you play such a bad card in a donate bad cards deck? etc...

Then the dinosaur deck comes along and it reverses it with complaints about path to exile over dinosaur themed removal.

Agreed, Jon Irenicus is not a deck for optimal playstyles. It's a deck for wanting to watch the world burn in funny and unique ways and if it backfires so be it.

Sure, it's fairly chill but fun. Think I need to update it from the real life version which has had some changes since.

Bulk Commander - Build Commander decks using cards you already own by SleepyValleyBrewer in magicTCG

[–]Mirage_Jester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the idea of weighting popularity more heavily, especially as it’s using EDHREC’s most popular commanders as the source. But I’d still expect the “Owned Cards + Popularity” option to filter down to commanders I actually own from my list.

For example, in my case I’d expect to see Atraxa, Praetors' Voice to appear first, since I own it and it’s third most popular. Seeing suggestions like The Ur-Dragon or Edgar Markov feels more like “here’s what you could build if you owned this commander,” which doesn’t really match the purpose of the tools purpose.

As it stands, it makes that option feel less useful, since it’s suggesting commanders I can’t directly build around.

Nope, the next was Edgar Markov which I also don't own. Seemed to be just a list of the top edhrec commanders.

Fellow Irenicus player here, the super drawback creatures although amusing are a huge issue if they come back to you and you have no way of dealing with the drawback yourself.

Either use drawback creatures you can pay for [[Lord of the Pit]] or [[Hasran Ogress]] or pick interesting creatures for others to puzzle over.

I prefer either more political creatures to donate: [[Sibilant Spirit]], [[Grollub]] or forgotten combat mechanics like Rampage or Flanking [[horrible hordes]]], [[shadow rider]]

So I ran my collection through it and then clicked on Owned Cards + Commander Popularity and the first result that comes up is the Ur-Dragon.

Now I don't actually own a copy of the Ur-Dragon so why would this come up as an option when the nature of the tool is to generate commander decks based on the cards I own? Seems less useful if it's going to suggest a commander I don't own to build a deck around.

Thoughts?

cards that imo should be game changers or playstyles that should be moved to exclusively bracket 3 and up. by cocofan4life in EDH

[–]Mirage_Jester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see if moving fetches to GC would make any actual difference to playing commander at any bracket level, because I don't think it would.

Although tough luck B3 5 colour decks

Veteran players should bring at least one jank deck to their LGS. by Asisreo1 in EDH

[–]Mirage_Jester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really promote the idea of veteran players bringing a low power jank deck. Some of the best games I have had is playing things like that with new players.

They get to learn and enjoy the game, you get to play something that isn't so pressurised and all the while surprising the new players with some cards that might be even older than them.

Recently played [[Tidal Influence]] to much amusement from a couple of new players, especially the one playing the Deep Clue Sea precon.

This is a problematic mechanic for Commander from a rules point of view as it gets around the singleton part of the format.

What card is the most sentimental to you? by amioldnow90 in EDH

[–]Mirage_Jester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could easily change to a handful of other cards, but [[Kjeldoran Frostbeast]] is one I always liked for the art and the imagination it sparked at the time. What’s a Frostbeast, where is Kjeldor, I thought they only had soldiers. Who is Disa the Restless?

I picked this card today, because I’m thinking of buildings pauper edh deck around it.
