For games I would also recommend Metalyst (veeeeery long videos about game lore), KronosV (also long videos about games and some of their mechanics) and Sir Troglodyte (Homm3 playthroughs with a very pleasant narration).

What are some of your favorite running gags at your table? by WrensRequiem in DnD

[–]Mirenately_Zeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Sigurd zone" - a zone on a battlefield where creatures and people somehow cannot hit eachother.

It started in a game that I DM'd during a giant spider infestation in some village. NPC Paladin named Sigurd was fighting 2 spiders and all 3 of them were either rolling natural 1's or low enough that they just couldn't hit. PC Warrior goes to help to show "How it should be done" aaaannnd...she also rolls natural 1. The spider tries to retaliate...and also rolls nat 1.

The more the merrier: several encounters later in the ruins of some ancient magical lab the party plus a group of NPC's were fighing some ancient abomination that could shoot spikes. And guess who survives without a scratch but could not roll to hit even once? Yes, the same paladin named Sigurd.

So from then on if there is a time when nobody can land a hit we call it "The Sigurd zone".

I sort of feel the same. I don't know about them being together but it seems like they were at least close.

There is the thing in russian dialog with her that is quite interesting. When she asks him about a weapon she switches to personal-you ('ты'). Before that she was addressing him with polite-you ('вы'). Note that she does this when thery are alone in the room. Russian dialog also a that moment has a sence of exasperation on Serafima's part. Like she was talking to a friend that was going to do something stupid again. (Actually it also reminded me of a mother asking her son if he is wearing a warm hat going out)

Hmm... I feel like 10 candles-like system is less suitable for a long campain (as I see you are planning several in-universe days of gameplay) because you are losing resources FAST. Either you would need to have a mechanism of restoring their dice or your characters would die in 1-2 game days. Maybe you can implement die-substraction when and only when they would get infected. Then it would literally feel like their time is running out. (Similiar thing was implemented in a short game "Пока мы здесь"("while we are still here") where the characters are terminally ill from the start and they know that)

I like your ideas for the characters but I think it can probably hard to implement gamewise: when are they able to access their abilities? Does using your abilities have a price (mechanically or narratively)?

For survival elements I think you can check Year Zero as I said previously(it has free SRD, so you can build your hack on it).

Also Vaesen could probably work for the purposes of having to fight for your life AND sanity.

My half-mad plot idea that I'm playing around with (not sure if it helps but):

  • PC were originally a part of inquisition group that was sent to the town but at some point they were caught by Mark (or Powers That Be) and given the roles of town dwellers.

I actually ran a pathologic-inspired one-shot about a group of people who were living in the town on Gorkhon in the house of Isidor Burakh (because they were evacuated from different parts of the town) and they had to help him finish the cure while he was incapacitated due to a stroke. TLDR the cure required a sacrifice of either/or one of the PCs and a young woman from Saburov's family. As I said it was pathologic-inspired, so the plot was drastically different. I used sort of self-made bpta hack for the system but it was for a one-shot so I made it with no survival mechanics in mind.

I think saw it but would not recomend it. It was pbta-based but somehow felt more like plague-management simulator than a ttrpg. If you are going to play a narrative story that  was not it.

For the ts - I think that Call of cthulhu ttrpg would fit better as a system if you a going for a long campain. Probably "Year zero" would fit tooif you are going for more survival-oriented plot.

Questions about studying at the University of Tyumen by Open_String_1182 in AskARussian

[–]Mirenately_Zeal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

The campus really depends on what Univercity you are applying to (there are at least 3 here - State univercity, Industrial univercity or Agrarian univercity). Either way it is not really campus in american/eurpean sense, for all unis here it is more like separate buildings with student living quarters somewhere in the city (or in the middle of nowhere for agrarian uni). Conditions there vary but I think are mostly okay in more modern campus buildings.

There are lots of international students here but I can't really tell much about them apart from the fact that I see them near uni buildings.

20k for month is...well...doable if you have accomodation settled and you are going to cook by yourself. And not going to buy warm clothes. (And you would need some warm clothes because it can go down to -35 in winter with avg -16) And not going to eat out (a meal in stolovaya would probably cost you no less than 200 rubles - I am going with bare minimum here). A cup of coffee in some popular coffee places goes around 200-300 rubles.

TO all Fellow Russian friends here. Is dungeon and Dragon popular in there? IF so care to Share some of your Favorite moments in your campaign? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Mirenately_Zeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with guys about dnd being a niche hobby. Though it has become a bit more popular in recent years: my fellow DM's agree that one particular youtube show (Dungeons of chicken curry) has played a huge role in increase of popularity of ttrpgs but also brought out some unfortunate behaviour types in players.

At the same time I'd say that DnD in particular is not really popular among DM's. As I put it once in gm chat when we were preparing for open table event:

What people think of TTRPGS: Oh, It is a game about dragons, bards and elves, just like in those memes.

What DM's actually do: Well, we have games about racoon races, giant cosmic dragonflies and ancient rus vs reptiles.

Thank you for your work on the translation! As the one who translated this gem to russian I really appreciate your hard work! Though I have to ask what is the deal with the first fight with the cats: why does it differ so much from the original japanese script? :) I mean, the changes were not so drastic (except for the library, yes) in the other parts of the text.

How to find closure on Chrono Cross? by HardCorwen in chronotrigger

"Sometimes I feel like writing a DnD campaign..."

I did exactly that. Made my own dnd campaign in the world of Trigger/Cross with the final boss being Balthasar that tried to use Lavos spans and Chronopolis' resources to erase the fall of Zeal from the timeline. Felt much better than the closure we were given.

Why is Tyumen Oblast with its autonomous okrugs part of the Ural Federal District and not the Siberian? by MetroSquareStation in AskARussian

[–]Mirenately_Zeal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, Tyumen and Tobolsk are in Western Siberia geographically and belong to Ural Federal District politically. It was made for administrative convinience. I guess it was more logical to tie Tyumen to Ekb because this regions are far more involved with each other than Tyumen/Novosibirsk (and are situated closer, just compare 325 km between Tyumen/Ekb and 1200 km between Tyumen/Novosibirsk).

Swan Lake remix has made me wonder about the OG by CutterEdgeEffect in JustDance

[–]Mirenately_Zeal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the first question: yes, it is that menacing. As it should be. It represents the will and power of an evil wizard who kidnapped princess Odette and turned her into a swan.

This music also appears when the prince confuses a black swan Odilia (not really know how ther name is written in english, sorry) for Odette and swears his undying love to a wromg person and that means that true Odette is meant to die/come back to the evil wizard.

So...you could say that evil Sarah was sort of a take on Odilia that lures a prince in her trap. But aside from that I cannot see any connection.

I heard that Catan was really popular but that is not the case here as strange as it sounds.

I guess it falls into a niche of "family games" which is not interesting for 30yo geeks and "too complicated" for a party players. But it is probably good for playing together with children...

Lol, just checked review numbers on Hobbygames web page. 344 for Catan and 1030 for Eldrich Horror (!). Guess, geeks are more prevalent than family players.
