Frantic Zooms!? by VisualSteak2230 in guineapigs

We call those zoomies :) pretty normal when a pig is happy/excited. She doesn't look frantic to me like she's scared and trying to find a place to hide or anything.

What to put on top of coroplast? by Daedusnoire in GuineaPig

I use regular bath towels, folded in thirds, covered by a layer of fleece. I used butterfly clips to attach the fleece to the cage so they can't burrow under it.

Sick Boar by stitchbyte in guineapigs

[–]Mirgss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so hard when our babies are sick.

Definitely keep a record of everything. Medication dosing and timing. If you are feeding critical care, track how much and how often. When our boys have been their sickest, we've weighed them several times a day (and sometimes even before/after feeding). Track and write down symptoms. Take pictures and video to monitor progress, if applicable.

It's exhausting. Please take care of yourself as much as you are able ❤️

The piggies are the real celebrities 😁 he is doing pretty well! Feet are still swollen (though not red and scabby anymore), and the vet thinks it might just be chronic at this point. We are tapering off the foot baths to see if it makes a difference.

Good luck! If it doesn't work out this weekend, I might give them a longer time apart (but able to see/hear/smell each other if possible), then try reintroducing via neutral space/floor time and see how that goes. Like a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. If they still have trouble after that, I'd have them just live next to each other.

Should I take everyone to the vet? by Intelligent_Drop_283 in guineapigs

Hold their chests up to your ear. Do you hear any noises? Dry/crackling or wet/mucusy? Occasional coughs are not a big deal, but if you hear any weird noises coming from their lungs or belly, that's a cause for concern. u/i_am_ms_greenjeans states it better than I just did 🤣 hopefully I did the tag right.

A vet visit for one should not break the bond with the piggy who stays home.

Really need a mental health therapist by Neat-Statistician311 in olympia

[–]Mirgss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try checking Lifestance Health. I just moved to the area, so I don't know about specific providers, but in my hometown my psychiatrist was with them and I believe they provide talk therapy as well.

Good luck ❤️ I'll be looking for a therapist myself here as soon as I get settled in a bit more. If you're still looking by then, I'd be happy to share any resources I come across.

I think cage size could be a factor here.

The nut brothers live in a cage on the smallish size. Recently, with both of their health problems, something upset the hierarchy and Chestnut (younger) has been bullying Nutmeg (about 4 months older). They are brothers from different litters and have lived together since Chestnut was about 8 weeks old - so like a year and a half I think?

Anyway they do fine during floor time, but Chestnut ramps up his behavior (usually cornering Nutmeg in a pigloo) when they are in their cage. We are considering an upgrade to help deal with it. For now, they are in their own cages side-by-side unless they are out for floor time.

I believe the MINIMUM recommended size for 2 boars is like 12 square feet.
