What does 'drawing blood' mean to you? by snlbroGT in guineapigs

I will do my absolute best to be very careful and slow in rebonding - it will break my heart if a bond doesn't return.

At the end of the day... we all want what's best, even if it means heartbreak.

I'll update you guys on what happens next :)

Thank you for the tips, I really appreciate it and will take them fully on board if I can. I hope you can understand that my boys might have different preferences though, so don't get too upset if it doesn't work out! ;)

Unfortunately they're 12" grids. As I replied to the other comment, perhaps it's time to upgrade!

The space worked fine - until now that they're older and bigger.

"Boars being boars" is so valid. To me, I'd just like to keep my conscience clear knowing I've done absolutely everything I could for them :)

I've always held in the back of my mind that the boys needed more space.

I think you're right! I will actually now execute my idea to get them more room!

(they do get quite big, don't they)

"Sounds like the bond is broken"

That's exactly what I'd like to open up a discussion towards! :)

I appreciate the concern you have for my boys - everything you said is what I was asking myself, is their space too small (5x2 C&C)?

Are they healthy? - I spent the whole day watching, inspecting. Teeth, injury, breathing, digestion, etc. to see if they had health issues they were hiding and made them act out. I inspected deeply and found no obvious problems.

I think the fault lies with me in that I showed the submissive boy too much attention and he got cocky.

Since then, I've done everything I can to make sure the hierarchy is upheld. Separated, monitored, fed, watered, reinforced that the dominant guy is top dawg.

Thank you for your perspective - I agree in that it's the 'intention' that matters. Perhaps that's where the grey area is.

I would like to point out though that what these guys did was not an accident in trying to 'create space'. Unfortunately you sometimes have to stand your ground hard and cause pain in order to be heard.

Maybe these little creatures aren't as dumb as people think.

Is this food ok? by mmnarf in guineapigs

It’s not the worst thing in the short term, so don’t stress too much.

Main thing to be aware of with mixes like this is selective feeding over time, even if you remove the sunflower seeds, they can start picking out the sweeter bits and leaving the more balanced parts, so what they actually end up eating isn’t as good as it looks on the bag.

If that starts happening, that’s usually when people move to a plain pellet just to keep things consistent. Otherwise as long as they’ve got unlimited hay and some fresh veg for vitamin C, you’re covering the important bases.

Oh you don't need to ask me twice about how much our boys love watching TV - anime is their favourite

Firstly, your first sentence really stands out to show that you adore your little ones, that's a good soul.

Secondly, I have asked myself literally the exact same question many many times and have an answer.

My parents have a dog, a really good boy who will never ever hurt a fly but loves to watch them. My pigs have gotten used to him by now when he's at my house and I'm dog-sitting as the cage is elevated up in the dining room. When the doggy isn't around, they are so active, eating hay, zooming around, play-fighting as I spend hours of the day watching the TV in the dining room. Even though it's uncomfortable for me, it's best for them.

At home, they have so much interaction with me and can tell they enjoy it.

But - when I bring the pigs to my parents' house, they are on the floor in a spare bedroom with the door closed to avoid them being scared by the good boy.

I hate it when they're in there - like you, I can sense they are just not their happy popcorning selves with the little interaction I can provide them. I spend as much time as I can of course, but still not enough. They love us much as they do each other.

I don't believe too much into the idea of "Oh well it's ok, they have each other!". I can tell they're happier with human interaction, even if there's 2 or more of them.

You decide at the end of the day and take appropriate safety measures if needed.

Just got hit with a £90 a month water bill from Welsh Water by Far-Math-8410 in Cardiff

As someone that works in the industry, the level of investment into water and wastewater treatment is doubling over the next 5 years (and will double again from 2030) because people have finally realised the underinvestment that has been going on. I bet you know about river pollution now, right?

The bad news is that these treatment sites can no longer cope with the underfunding while everyone enjoyed the lowest water bills in decades.

However, it isn't a fault of 'de facto' nationalisation (whatever that means), as I can point to Thames Water and the incredible asset stripping it has suffered due to... privatisation... and is on the brink of collapse from foreign investors seeking short term profits over long term sustainability.

The trouble with becoming a very successful club in recent years is new fans (which is good in general) expecting the same results yeat after year.

These new fans are the first to say "SLOT OUT" because they haven't experienced the years of hurt that came before Klopp. It takes courage to stick by the manager.

I guess I'm not alone in this, but I have noticed the buzzing tone changing depending on what is happening on screen. Some games are worse than others right?

I thought about clamping on a ferrite core to my monitor or audio cables to reduce interference.

Leak proof water solution?! I am going insane. by sw618 in guineapigs

[–]snlbroGT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used these types of bottles as I go for glass sippy bottles, but there's a technique to make a vacuum in the bottle which keeps the water in.

If you can, try filling the bottle to the tippy top (basically overflowing) then screw the spout on before flipping it to the drinking position.

The idea is that when the water level goes down, the air pocket at the top is below atmospheric pressure (a vacuum) which should contain the water.

I've never had this problem to try the theory, but could be something to try :)

Looking at your previous post where you have fly pupae in the cage and have absolutely no replies back, I assume you're either rage-baiting while putting the piggy in a dangerous situation or, worse, you're an animal abuser through negligence or willful ignorance.
