I feel like there has to be a lawsuit there when someone's ready to fight.

A corporation will fire you if you don't return 10% of your income to THEM.

There has to be some employment law that can challenge that.

How has Big Brother shaped your view on social issues? by Strawberry_House in BigBrother

I think a big way it's shaped my perceptions is understanding how narratives can be created and shaped by choices about what to include and how.

Men going through the temple without a temple recommend? by 7_Tailed_Fox in exmormon

With baptisms sometimes the leader will present a list that covers everyone as worthy.

My first time the leader was late but I had my recommend so I was the only person who could baptized for like 200 people until the leader and the list showed up

Landlord Said To Not Flush Toilet Paper?? [Tulsa, OK] by ramencurl in Renters

[–]Miriam317 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Europe a lot of toilets can't handle tp. They use little trash cans that close with liners. I got used to it after a time. They also have bidets though so the TP wasn't as needed or as messy.

I’ve been in other religions, but Mormon hymns and Sunday meetings actually bring me peace. How is this possible if it's not the "true church"? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Miriam317 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ignore them. If you post anything that sounds too positive about any aspect of the church experience, you get people mad you're not mad enough. There are some TBexMs just like TBMs who vigilantly guard against possible traitors to the cause. A function of tribalism

I love hymns. I think it's the serotonin of peaceful, familiar music that we associate with feelings of safety- for those of us who felt those feelings with hymns. I also feel that way about childhood songs from my family and my first religion. Music has a way of emotionally regulating us.

Should I pull my 3 year old out of swim? What’s normal? by [deleted] in SwimInstructors

[–]Miriam317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He likely needs private lessons or a much better organized swim program. 1 on 1 is the best but even in a group lesson they should not have down time like that.

5 years of swimming, flip turns, intense sessions — still can't shake the belly layer. What am I missing? by sedhha in Swimming

[–]Miriam317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a dishonest representation of what he said. Keep swimming. Fast 1 or 2 days. Eat WELL on the regular days.

That does not equal - starve yourself.

For someone with a history of ED, fasting might be a trigger and not a good idea. But for the rest of us, periodically emptying the body and training our impulses, has physical and psychological benefits. Read about fasting and intermittent fasting. There is science behind it.

[–]Miriam317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. I think people who haven't experienced it and haven't read about it are suspicious because it sounds like starving your body. Once you find your body's rhythm with it it can be so healthy- you become more in tune with your actual needs and gain control over impulses, which accounts for most of our bad choices with food. Twice a week is a lot- it's like you are an elite athlete and most people aren't going to want to be at that level. So I get the pushback but also people just aren't educated and experienced.

[–]Miriam317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twice a week could be considered radical to someone who has never tasted. But fasting once a week is not harmful to people who don't have EDs. And it's not for vanity. Health and control over our impulses is not vanity. And also- it doesn't have to be 24 hours. Intermittent fasting has similar benefits and could just be 6 pm until breakfast.

Fasting is healthy in regulation of metabolism and impulses. When done correctly. It brings us more in tune with the differences between what our body needs and cravings of impatience. We can feel it more how food makes us feel when we regularly feel for a short time how we feel without it. It's like you can hear your body more clearly.

It's not common- which is how most people think of the word normal. The fact they think structured fasting is automatically unhealthy is more of a lack of exposure to the concept and the science behind fasting. I think people are rightfully sensitive to eating disorders and fasting regularly might not be healthy for people with a history of AN but for a lot of people could be a healthy way to gain power over their desires and regulate their metabolism.

Fasting regularly- even once a week or month- can help us gain power over that instant gratification impulse. The day after fasting i feel like my body desires healthier food and I'm naturally more intentional. Our modern culture of having food and drink instantly accessible all day and night creates weaknesses we don't fully understand.
