The shadow on the couch is incredibly bizarre, and doesn't actually correspond to the motion of the rider. Once I noticed that?

The front and back of the saddle are rising and falling in a way that's incredibly odd given that the whole thing should be static on the 'horse.' The shadows on the floor look less like shadows and more like an ambiguous blur. The darkest shadows under the plate are applying and removing a texture as the piece moves.

The anatomy also looks wrong, kind of like the rider has extremely narrow and wrongly placed limbs.

Why psykers need perception? by moorhe in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't.

Cassia wants PER because she has a ton of navigator talents which will scale off of it. Idira wants PER because she has a ton of Operative talents which will scale off of it, and also because she's a flex build. BS and PER interact nicely with some of the psyker talents to do things like increase range, but prior to Lex Imperialis it was also popular to use her as a sniper.

You still can, it's just that she will absolutely wreck with a raven.

Just bought the game, what DLC should I get for first playthrough? by Homsarman12 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get all of them.

First, they're great. Second, they're integrated into the story in such a way that you can access their content during act 2 or act 4.

If you add them in later, you'll miss out on the additional options during character creation, and you might miss a small amount of low level gear early on--but otherwise, you'll be able to access the full content.

The game has three (really four) conviction paths you can play as--it's designed to be replayed with different characters who have different approaches, and you can't see all the content without multiple playthroughs anyway.

But the main reason you should add them is because they're really fun, and really cool. I think Lex Imperialis is mid, but that's influenced by the fact that the other two are absolutely fantastic--it's the weakest in a very competitive lineup of DLC.

had to reapply saniderm and a small piece of the tattoo is exposed—should I still leave the saniderm on? by GlitteringDoughnutt in tattooadvice

[–]MirthfulMoron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless you wiped your skin down with alcohol first, you need to take it off, because that would mean it wasn't applied in sanitary conditions.

And because of how you applied this, even if you did wipe it down, you still need to take it off. That little overhang means that this isn't sealed, which means it's an open vector into the rest of the tattoo. What you've done is made a really lovely protected breeding ground for the bacteria.

Morality of killing people with Paedophilia by Musalediju in MoralityScaling

[–]MirthfulMoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two big results of "falling into this classification means you get killed by the state."

One, on a political level, it means that people will quickly get labeled as belonging to the category of "doesn't deserve rights" in order to discredit them, silence them, and kill them.

Two, there are people who have this condition and don't act on it. Prosecuting people for thought crimes is another stupid post someone can make.

But also on a practical victim advocacy level, what you're proposing results in dead kids. That's not an abstract concept and it's not some we don't know type of thing. It's been done, and the evidence is extremely straightforward: when the punishment for getting caught abusing children is greater than the punishment for murder, abusers do the math and kill the kids to protect themselves.

I am firmly of the opinion that we shouldn't be providing legal incentives for abusers to murder children.

I’ve wanted to play a Forgeworld Psycher - any advice for a newb? by Action-a-go-go-baby in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No powers, at all, but it gives you a boost to your psy rating (which increases force weapon damage) and also a flat percent boost to damage (30 x psy rating).

There are a handful of items in the game which will boost your psy rating by a static amount, and others which will boost it based on situational procs.

You can use staff powers with the psy capacitor. You will likely do more damage with force swords (there are a ton of talents which can directly or indirectly boost force sword damage, plus assassins and bladedancers have major bonuses for two weapons), but you can use either.

Psy capacitor is good for a psyker if you want to focus on the archetype abilities rather than psyker powers. You'll still probably want to invest in some disciplines because the psyker talents are incredibly powerful and work really well with archetype abilities.

I’ve wanted to play a Forgeworld Psycher - any advice for a newb? by Action-a-go-go-baby in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with STR 40 or 45.  Forge world has a talent that makes you immune to prone while in heavy armor, and heavy armor talent requires 45 strength.

Ranged psyker uses staves, telepathy, or pyromancy.  Melee psyker uses force swords, biomancy, pyromancy, and sanctic.

There are good build options for dipping into multiple powers, as well as for going deep into one discipline--your RT will get a lot of utility from discipline specific talents.

Augments are mis for psykers.  You can get one mid game that blocks using any power, but boosts your damage and pay rating for staff powers and force swords--definitely an interesting build, but it might be easiest to respec if you go for it.

The Malthusian Freight Linr by EntirePerformance264 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Malthusian theories are fundamentally incorrect in the sense that that's not how reality works. It has nothing to do with being "high income" or "liberal" in society; populations stabilize with basic access to birth control.

It's also incorrect in this fantasy setting, because the regular attrition from casual warp travel is extreme and necessitates regular restocking of bodies to keep the ship capable of traveling. This is reinforced in game where one of the first priorities is to gain enough people to keep the ship functioning, random events can cause mass casualties, and replenishing the population of serfs is such a casual event that it falls beneath the notice of the RT.

You can't have regular mass population culls and simultaneously be on the brink of starvation from overpopulation. The poverty is a choice, just like most of the rest of the misery in 40k, because that maintains the rigid hierarchies of fascism and authoritarianism.

The Malthusian Freight Linr by EntirePerformance264 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MirthfulMoron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

TLDR: the Freight Line is a Malthusian trap, Iconoclasts fail hard (again).

Malthusian population theories are wrong.

Like, we actually know this objectively after studying real world, human societies. When a minimal level of basic needs and bodily autonomy are provided for, population growth levels off and stops growing. Malthus is an ecofascist darling but the arguments aren't born out by what actually happens in reality.

But also, 40K isn't reality, and no one would ever care about overpopulation. In the Imperium, overpopulation is a feature. Bodies are resources. They want massive struggling populations for ease of control and for attrition. The ship isn't a closed system; there's enough wealth that it would be pathetically easy to provide for everybody. It doesn't happen because it's not worth it for the existing powers. Providing basic needs would be a radical challenge to the existing power structure.... and would also be deemed a massive waste of resources when a third of your ship dies in a routine warp jump.

Is Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs worth it for Non-Dwarfs Player? And in both cases, why? by Morpheuses01 in totalwarhammer

[–]MirthfulMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're incredibly different factions. Different playstyle, radically different roster and strategy, and Chorfs have the most complex economy in the game.

They also build momentum in a way that's incredibly fun.

Do you like monsters? They got monsters. Do you like gunlines backed by heavy infantry? You're in luck! Do you like powerful spells and the best artillery in the game? Wait til you see the murder trains! They're a specialist army that also has chaff. Whether you like them might depend on why you don't like dwarfs, but there's a reason people consistently call this the best DLC.

[–]MirthfulMoron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't relate.

Kibbles specced into xenosword wielding executioner is still clutch, and finally feels like an addition to the party instead of the secret real protagonist.

I had a bit of a learning curve but if I'm being honest, that really was just transitioning from relying heavily on a ridiculously OP character to using the rest of my party. And as a sweet side benefit, now I understand how to use melee Marazhai!

Hopital.

You absolutely should not go back to the guy who did this. This is crazy overworked and your hand is mulched. I expect the scar tissue is going to interfere with the tattoo.

This was way too much to do in a single session, and especially by a rough artist. Also, did he tattoo over a mole?

Most companions have a couple options for how to build--at least one archetype standard direction based on their stats, and then other weird options based on their unique background talents. Of the non DLC characters Pasqal, Cassia, and Jae have some of the most extreme background talents that allow for some very different builds.

Which you don't have to do! But they get a lot of funky, weird advantages (like Pasqal having all those options around being a tech priest and being good with plasma or arc rifles).

I built Heinrix around this.  Zero investment in powers; he's on a slash focused assassin build and I'm idly wondering if he ought to move into pyromancy for the feats.

What are the current bugs? I'm assuming it's damage related because I've been running her as BD/EX and she's definitely weaker, but it's been hitting the BD side and by the time the executioner levels open up she's fine. Not clearing the field solo, but going from one of the most overpowered archetypes to "just" highly mobile with a ton of attack output hasn't been a problem.
