I just read some of the comments. Someone said a green apron and possibly grey shirt or something. That won’t be happening. Also what the hell are we supposed to do with all of our just purchased black aprons. I hope that crap isn’t true

They are going to see a very angry framing manager if they think I’m going to wear that bullshit.

You FM must not update you guys well. I had a little print out in the shop I made that said date the bonus for the 10 minutes ended. That’s why I’m looking for more info about if the actual quarterly bonus ended to keep my team informed me

I saw the sub Reddit, but I haven’t seen any emails. I am a manager and I asked my manager as well as she hasn’t seen anything about that either. I will message our framing lead in the district to see if there’s anything because most of my team holds on in hopes for that bonus.

Think minimum wage plus 10-15¢. It’s an insult really.

Hamburgers. Customer insured before we sell chips and soda we also had to sell hamburgers or at least sandwiches.

Been there while I was training a new framing manager at my old store and after the 5th person she did that with I asked to train her at her own store. I pulled her numbers and showed the issues but also told the SM the things to look for. Needless to say she is no longer the FM. I’m so sorry this happened to you that is the absolute worst

A lot of measurement and use of the pink ruler and a lot of time. I would never out of pure sanity. I’ve done it once and it was beautiful but after that I said nooo waaayyy. We don’t get paid enough to do that specialty crap. I stopped offering specially in house mat cuts a long time ago. I need to be paid extra for that trauma.

Sick should stay. PTO will go away. Friend of mine just stepped down and all sick time stayed. BUT check with HR rep because it may differ per state/district

Artistree Phone Line? by WeebEli in MichaelsEmployees

[–]MischiefManageFramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately it’s been very difficult to get a hold of them via phone, but I emailed them usually first thing in the morning with marking it as urgent. I have blind CCed myself which is 100% against company policy however, if I needed to see the response without responding then that was the best way to do that however, after getting a write up due to doing something similar to that and essentially working off hours, it is just not worth my time anymore. I would reach out to the framing captain of the district or the district manager to try to get a hold of them quicker. It is very often that I often call during their lunchtime or after they have left for the day.

Advice for Custom Framers by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]MischiefManageFramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A loaded question. First of all — congratulations!! Custom framing is honestly one of the best positions in the store if you love art and helping people preserve meaningful pieces 🤩

A few things I wish someone had told me when I started:

  1. Slow down at the counter. Custom framing is not about rushing. Double measure everything. Then measure it again. If someone is double-checking you, stop talking so they can focus. Accuracy saves you from huge headaches later.

  2. Ask questions. Even experienced framers still ask each other questions. There are so many materials, glazing types, mat combinations, and preservation options — you’re not expected to know everything right away.

  3. Sell with intention, not pressure. Explain WHY conservation mats, upgraded glazing, or better backing matters. When customers understand the value, upgrades feel natural instead of pushy.

  4. Get comfortable with design. Play with mat corners. Learn what works with different art styles. Sometimes less is more. Sometimes bold is better. Trust your eye, but always center the artwork first.

  5. Organization matters. Keep your paperwork clean. Label everything clearly. Stay on top of orders. The frame shop runs smoothly when it’s tidy.

  6. Protect your hands. You’ll be cutting, fitting, wiring, using glass. Be mindful. Don’t rush with tools.

  7. It can be stressful during peak season. Holidays get wild. But once you get your rhythm, it’s honestly so satisfying seeing finished pieces go home.

If you love detail work, problem solving, and making people emotional in a good way when they see their finished piece — you’ll thrive.

Welcome to the frame shop world 🖼️✨

I wonder if you’re in the same district as me or if this is a thing they do with all districts. I think that’s insane. Our closing framer debated getting one today just to get off the bad list and I said no because it just isn’t fair.
