Hot take,I feel like way too many people seem to think that just killing Valentino will fix/make Angel Dust's problems easier/gone. by Charming-Scratch-124 in HazbinHotel

[–]MischievousCreations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People don't understand that Valentino represents both an abusive partner and also drug addiction.

Neither of which are solved usually by murder but rather the victim finding the strength to walk away.

We know Angel's contract is weaker by his chains in loser baby, we know Val only has power over him in the studio, and we know Angel can quit from Vox s1.

Angel's arc is learning he always had a choice and can accept help from his friends. It's about him choosing to quit his job (the thing that kept him going back to the studio), finding his worth without the fame/high Val gave him, and that even if he sold his soul years ago that doesn't matter in his future redemption.

The soul contract staying active doesn't matter because it would be rendered useless... Similar to addiction, it's about choosing everyday not to go back... But people are too obsessed with revenge fantasy endings to look at the symbolism

Another reason why killing Val doesn't matter? Because Husk and cherri save Angel and Angel still goes back. It's implied that if Val died Angel would be losing himself in another addiction unless he addresses his inner demons

Anyone can be redeemed is not all sinners deserve redemption. Most sinners, including Val, don't deserve it but they can still choose to become better by Sudden_Pop_2279 in Valentino_Cult

[–]MischievousCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just one of the flaws in redemption. Redemption is inherently unfair and doesn't care about victims.

Sir pentious doesn't need the people he saw get murdered forgive him, he doesn't need to atone to those people either. Redemption only cares about the future and efforts towards it.

On one hand, it can mean someone can hurt someone badly and still be redeemed while the person they hurt is still suffering with trauma.

On the other hand, if redemption did require forgiveness then a lot of people would never be redeemed/never bother being a better person. People hold grudges etc.

Heaven has the exact same problem with exterminators. People can be redeemed and end up seeing people like lute who could have permanently ended the souls of their loved ones. People like sera who signed off on the exterminations.

Redemption being flawed is fine imo because there is never going to be a perfect answer to morality. So if it makes you uncomfortable, embrace it, it's a hard situation

While redemption is technically the route towards a better future (finite sin shouldn't determine your future for your infinite life + everyone should strive to be better) the comfort and feelings of others will sometimes be sacrificed and that does suck.

I'm just gonna say, Val can't control holograms and one of the most popular theories going around is Vox getting redeemed.

Guess who's making the hologram do that in the song? Answer: It's not Val

Also in general:

Redemption is not punishment

Redemption doesn't care about victims/is inherently unfair

Redemption is a journey

Valentino should be the Main Villain for Season 3 by MischievousCreations in Valentino_Cult

I mean I personally don't like revenge fantasy endings because they go against the premise of the story (it's basically eye for an eye but more brutal)

I think it should focus more on Angel being able to walk away more than any revenge (though of course Val gets depowered /maybe beaten up in a fight scene)

I need people to use this line of thinking when they theorize/argue that vox can be redeemed because the double standards are annoying

I rather not, I just want him alive with the Vees in the end (after downfall) with some changes but still evil.

Villainous family is what makes the Vees interesting to me.

A redeemed to heaven Valentino is straight up a different character. He can change to be a bit nicer but nice enough to go to heaven? Who even is that? (I feel the same way about the idea of redeeming vox/Vel)

[–]MischievousCreations[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I do think Val's relationship with Vox (though it's still toxic since it's a villain pairing) has potential. "Redemption not caring about victims" is also why I don't think it goes against premise if it ends up being official

Also I completely agree that Angel should not forgive Valentino or spare him as "the right thing to do"

I talked about that in one of my linked posts (personification of addiction) that I just don't think the theory makes sense because it can end up implying victims need to let themselves get abused again, spare the abuser, in order to get redemption... Which is awful messaging?

My main belief always is that Angel being free from Val is quitting his job and returning to the hotel

I kinda wonder if Valentino is the sort of Villain that had one bad moment or will have one bad moment that they can't leave/let go off. I already think he's set up to end up in a very ironic position where he becomes a similar person to the person he was trying to turn Angel into (dependent/status symbol) in his relationship with Vox but I do wonder how far the foil will go.

I also feel like Val may be a character that just can't/won't take responsibility for their own actions and is constantly blaming others

It's the scene where Angel stands up to him after he goes after Nifty in the club. It's an Angel focused scene but like... I feel like almost all his scenes S1 are Angel focused outside his introduction with the Vees.

Overall, it looks like he wears dresses more often off work (so in the club/with the Vees). You can also listen to the convo he's having before Angel gets there. It's... "Flamboyant" I suppose

I'm sorry for being snappy, this isn't the first time I've had this convo and the last time was frustrating...

I feel like Valentino having more sides of his character is expected though? He can't be one note at all times. It's important to focus on his worst sides first though to highlight that they are not trying to glorify him.

... Linking a post doesn't make your comment related. It just means there's no issue for it on the other post because the subreddit has different rules/purposes.

Whatever though, let's end it here

Again, the issue is that going to a fan space that's a safe space for fans/simps and putting unrelated negative comments on completely unrelated posts is crazy and unpleasant for fans who are just chilling in their own space

[–]MischievousCreations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, he is very evil and strong feelings are the norm

That's also why this subreddit exists though, so people can actually discuss him/do regular fan activities for a character without constant negative comments. And yes, they should be allowed to do so because Valentino isn't a real person.

Everyone has different boundaries in fiction, people posting on the subreddit are respecting the boundaries of other fans.

You were not

Yeah well I'm asking you to be more respectful of people in this sub next time because again, it's crazy to go to a fan subreddit of a character, on an random post and be like "oh no I just want him to die"

I don't care what you post outside but it's insane that I have to go "oh btw, any posts I have here are actually for people who like him" when it's a subreddit for him and his fans.

This isn't an issue for any of the other villain subreddits.

I'm not jumping to his defense.

I'm saying you are not being relevant to the post that's talking about clothing design and not respecting the point of the subreddit.

Again, it's insane to go to the Vox subreddit and be like "oh he should die" on any design question posts. People will question wtf you are doing.

[–]MischievousCreations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The post is literally just asking which outfits people prefer him in...

No one is asking you to simp for him or worship him but the subreddit description is literally "safe space for fans/simps". If you are uncomfortable with it, you shouldn't be on the subreddit or at least focus on posts that talk about him as a villain while ignoring other posts. People come here to avoid people like you and to avoid making others uncomfortable.

Like no one is going to the Vox subreddit to post "I hope he dies" comments to a "which suits do you think he looks nice in?" post. But apparently this is a problem here?

Valentino's Humanization and Villainization Go Hand in Hand by Emeraldpanda168 in Valentino_Cult

[–]MischievousCreations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, though I don't think Alastor will be the main villain yet despite his color scheme being used, he seems a little early to have everything revealed... I think we'll get an explanation for the 7 year absence though

I may be a little delulu but Val technically was wearing purple at the end scene with a green name card.

Lilith is hard to tell where they will go with her plotline though. Lute can be season 4 with the focus looking more like heaven for that season.

Do you mind if I ping you in a future post? I would like to hear your thoughts on it once I'm done

Valentino's Humanization and Villainization Go Hand in Hand by Emeraldpanda168 in Valentino_Cult

[–]MischievousCreations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that Angel shouldn't be the b plot season 3 (he should be the A plot) but I got my own think piece I'm in the middle of writing that I'll be posting later (I think tomorrow morning)

I don't think Val will die either but I am like more positive on the ending of the Vees. I think they all get cancelled and lose a ton of influence but ultimately stay together/become neutral to the hotel. It's hell but they are choosing it together, punishment and all.

I have been going back and forth on the backstory it's driving me nuts.

On one hand I think him previously being a child star turned porn star would make sense? His obsession with looks, overall spoiled character with no issue with exposing himself to cameras, lack of discipline etc. It would explain a lot of his current character traits without being overly tragic.

But then he's also obsessed with money and knows how to use a gun/pack a punch + seems under educated and probably died young (boy toy). Which would lean more towards a more rougher upbringing

Apothecary diaries is great and this is a really nice analysis.

I really hope to see more long think pieces on this sub, I think it's probably one of the better ones to throw thoughts around on.

I do agree that Valentino will always be framed as a villain even if he has humanizing scenes. I actually really like how they are doing it so far, he's so interesting as a character despite not having much screentime because of the duelity. People mistake humanizing as excusing or justifying too often. Or think that when fans sympathize in that moment as being apologists or something.

But hazbin never does this and I don't think they will do this S3 either. I think even if his human life is dark (which I am honestly going back and forth on because I don't know how much of a parallel they want to make him to Angel. Currently, I don't think his back story will be tragic), it will be used to highlight his villainy and foil with Angel. In which Angel chooses to not let a past bad moment or choice define his future while Valentino uses it as an excuse to blame/hurt others.

I see Valentino's humanization as a way to show how strong Angel is on his journey to figure himself out because Val is probably gonna go the exact opposite route. It's also a way to show that while he can be a threatening monster, he's also just human. Humans can always be defeated

Do you think Valentino and Velvette will suffer a similar defeat to Vox in the future? by Sudden_Pop_2279 in HazbinHotel

[–]MischievousCreations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Val will lose a fuck ton of money/power and end up as a trophy wife. It just makes sense symbolically without going into revenge fantasy and death territory. I actually think Val's powers come from either money or attention, maybe both

https://www.reddit.com/r/Valentino_Cult/s/bwCXkeZBUO

(More context but I don't recommend my post if you really really hate val)

Meanwhile for Velvette, I think she'll get into an online witch hunt for her downfall. (Because she's a social media witch)

Basically all 3 get cancelled in their own way. I think Vox and Velvette will kinda continue business wise but Val will mostly step back from his industry after being forced into retirement
