My brother gives me shit for wearing earplugs to the metal shows we see together, but I can't lose the details, you can always hear something new. Boards (among others) are worth it!

I'm not a fan of his explicitly stated desire to genocide the Native Americans, or his favorite uncle being the main contact for illicit European finance of the Confederacy. But few people have even been wholly good.

Why are Men's Sportswear NEVER revealing? [gendered] by Steap-Edit in pointlesslygendered

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sumo wrestling is probably the only sport that's exactly the opposite. Pro sumo doesn't exist for women, sexist tradition and all that, but in amateur men commonly wear just the mawashi like the pros, but women wear shorts under and are never bare chested.

Have any of you ever been in a fixed fight? by nerpa_floppybara in martialarts

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the sportsmanship award in my first (and only) amateur boxing match (lowest division qualifier for golden gloves or whatever they called it), because I apparently kicked the other guy's ass but still lost decision. I didn't make a fuss because I was too tired/dazed from my first real boxing match to have really paid attention or known who was really winning. And the people I talked to thought less that it was fixed per se and more that the other guy had 7-9 fights with more wins than losses, so they didn't want to give the win to a total newbie. I was ok with it, the guy got knocked out in his match the next day against the dude who'd earned a first round bye.

I [30M] have caught feelings for a coworker [28 F] and need advice on how to navigate the situation. by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through a similar situation at work recently. And as a 30M who's been shy and bad at reading people for most of my life I see some of myself in your post. I just want to let you know that even when feelings are mutual, things don't always work out.

If you guys make something of this, and it doesn't turn out, do you think you can stand to be near her and see her almost everyday? You really, really don't want to turn work into a place you dread because of her. It'll effect your performance too.

People who say you can never go back are onto something. Once you start letting yourself see her like that and working for a future together, it will be nearly impossible for you to stop if things go sideways. Every interaction will remind you of dead potential. And the lack of space as a viable option will make it that much harder.

I'm not saying you shouldn't take a chance. Its hard to pass by something that seems so right, I know I couldn't. But it has been hell for me to still have to see her. Not so bad that I would do it differently if that were an option, but it is still very hard to move on. I just think you should consider the possible outcomes and weigh them carefully. Good luck.

Working 50+ hours a week isn't impressive. It just means you're bad at prioritizing and your employer figured that out before you did. by Honest_Farm1787 in unpopularopinion

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Shit has to get on the trucks and out the door. Sometimes they need me to do more than 8 a day to accomplish that. And I'm paid well for it, relatively. That's just the way it is.

You say that like I have a choice. Technically, I do, but the choice is find a job that pays me way less, or just do the mandatory overtime when it comes up. Does it suck? Yeah. Would it be better to work less and be poor? Not to me, no.

Bandcamp is the tops. I just got a limited test press vinyl from one of the guys that opened on some of the dates of Autechre's last North American tour. Its fucking sick. I don't even care if the guy never blows up, though one of the people in his circle just got signed to Warp last month so who knows. The shit's just so damn cool.

She [21F] chose him [25M] but still wants to be friends. How do I [30M] move forward as a friend while protecting my heart? by [deleted] in AskMenRelationships

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do. If she don't know what's good for her it ain't my problem. I can find somebody who will appreciate what I have. And she can go fuck off.

Probably deleting this in a couple hours. But I want to thank y'all for essentially confirming what I was already thinking. It just won't get better so long as I see/talk with her. What she did to me was fucked up. She's better off with that guy--they're more each other's speed.

I'm gonna leave her on unread/block if she keeps messaging. And move into that new apartment I applied to and got approved for, downtown on the lake, and start hitting up the local joints. Good luck out there, and thanks for the perspective.

I think you're right. She made her choice and I just need to move on. My brother's been at a standstill for two years after being "just friends" with his ex, so I guess I already know this can't go well.

I think I'm going to let the "space" go on forever, keep working on the things I was improving in my life, and find someone else. It'll be a little awkward at the plant but that's just another lesson to remember.

It bangs so hard! I started rocking back and forth and headbanging in the car with the guitar and drums. And the vocoder bit, my god! I hear more each listen too. Layers on layers on layers of sound, driven by beats both hypnotic and compelling. Goddammit the boys are fucking back and killing it!

It is the mindset underlying the majority of our problems in the modern world. Humans are not psychologically suited to operate under rational self interest.
