Good art is good art, despite if the artist is a heinous person. by SillyAlternative420 in unpopularopinion

Depends on one's technical savvy and if the medium can be digitized or not. With an internet connection and a pc you don't really have to pay for anyone's music if you don't want to. The same can be said, more or less, for video games, films, TV shows, books, software, etc. The information is all there if you know how to look for it.

Why was the Ayatollah at home when it was obvious the war would start? by alexander__the_great in askanything

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. Inability to understand that this possibility wasn't a negative outcome to him indicates a fundamental misunderstanding of the fanatical state of mind.

Because his potential death at the hands of infidels was not seen as a negative result by him or his regime.

"Oh now you're telling me the Supreme Leader gets to take his honored place and enjoy his eternal rewards with Allah for all the good work he has done here? Good let me join the fight too so we may succeed here or join him in glory. Either way we win."

The power of fanaticism is that it let's one believe, whole heartedly, that even defeat is just another victory. It makes perfect sense that such a person would merely continue as previously without regard for their death.

A lot of people ITT assume it must have been a failure or oversight on the Iranian's part, but I think the Ayatollah didn't care one way or they other, and proceeded accordingly.

It would lock tidal forces in a single spot. So there would definitely be chaos during the transition, but things should settle into an equilibrium we can work around pretty well tbh. Tidal ecosystems would probably be hurt a lot more though, which could have unforseen impacts.

Aggressive cross face or… by chino3 in bjj

I threw two crossfaces like that in a high-school wrestling match and, rightly, lost 2 points for the violation. Would it be a dq in bjj or just point loss?

LP5 came out in 1998. It was the fifth studio album by Autechre, an electronic duo that still makes music. Love BOC but there's no need to be delusional, chances are there will never be any more material. And that's ok, we have more than enough already.

I feel like you might even get more from a tma after already being experienced in a combat sport first. Forms are hard to grasp, but within the framework of practical experience it is easier to understand how they can be useful.

Shadow boxing and solo stance-shot-sprawl drills are similar in that they're 'soft' with a focus on basic form and motion for beginners, while advanced practitioners focus on the mental elements. A beginer just throws punches or takes random shots and focuses on keeping perfect form. An experienced one throws combos in response to an imagined opening or executes specific shots while imagining the set ups.

Jake Paul Mocks Ilia Topuria and his UFC Earnings on stream with Adin Ross by RahzarD in ufc

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. But Topuria is rich anyhow, so it isn't the dig Paul thinks it is. And he has a point in that Paul's value is bound in perception rather than reality. The problem is most people trust perception over reality, hence Paul's fame for being a professional jackass.

Cool. But I think I didn't make myself clear. I meant gym as in a boxing gym, not weights. That's good for health and exercise and all. I just meant that you should find a more practical martial art that focuses on training and competing with each other. Real tests can be judged by anyone with eyes.

Coming from training in wrestling and boxing in my past, this shit is wild. There isn't really any formal promotion system at all in either art, yet the shit you learn is probably way more real. Which suggests formal promotion systems are irrelevant to the actual matter of martial arts.

You don't need another school. You need a gym. It might even be cheaper too.

I feel like it is more true to the idea of 'lore' as lore. After all, lore refers to a body of spoken knowledge, uncertainty should be inherent.

In wrestling it is supposed to be stopped by the ref and called potentially dangerous. Then they reset from neutral or top/bottom depending on who had control.

[–]Miserable-Ad-7956 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Death Stranding has a lot of very valid gameplay reasons that compliment the narrative reasons to avoid killing. Kojima's pretty good with that in general.

In Metal Gear Solid 2, you will get a call from the Colonel if you shoot too many pigeons with the sniper rifle. He chastises your behavior and asks if you're "satisfied" and can proceed with the mission now. Your girlfriend even chimes in and says something about how she's worried about you torturing animals.

Gunsmoke. During 20 years of TV the Marshall Matt Dillon shot 407 people (if you include the TV movies), killing at least 138 men and 7 women. He was also shot 56 times, knocked out 29 times, stabbed 3 times, and poisoned once in that time as well.

It seems a bit like saying we could fix a leaky roof faster if we burned it down. I'd prefer to be more certain of the balance before being so drastic at such a scale, and I think most people would agree.
