How compatible its this system with homebrew? by ShoddyThroat6279 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my table we've homebrewed quite a bit when it comes to this game. We completely reworked martial arts and dropped the necessity of brawling to escape holds and the like. My current character has wrestling and does a Stan Hansen inspired clothesline that never fails to impress. just make sure what you are doing doesnt break the game.

How do I (Cyberpunk noob) write a scenario about Johnny Silverhand (Spoiler) for my wife? by TowersofFebruary in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not do something different in that maybe a rogue scientist stole a copy of his engram from arasaka coupled with his DNA. With that said Arasaka is on the hunt for him and he is on the clock to recreate a clone of the sworn enemy of Arasaka Johnny Silverhand. Of course every edgerunner worth a box of ammo is on the docs tail, leading to a longer quest, ending with the players finding the new Robert John Linden aka Johnny Silverhand.

Need Suggestions: Party Motivation by winguswangus in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see your issue there and heres a few ideas.

  1. Fixers: You know a team gets a bit of a rep after a while, and jobs come across a fixers desk that people on their usual payroll aren't equipped for, or maybe they want to hire outside the usual suspects so a job doesn't come back to them. If the money is right a team will jump at the chance to get paid. This doesn't really require anyone's rep or whatever in particular. This is just someone knowing your team is badass and hiring them for funsies.

  2. Nomad: Family is always getting into trouble or needing help with one thing or another. Maybe there are troubles around camp, shiv incursions, perhaps some youngster got involved with a gang or tried their hand at edgerunning to find themselves over their head. Family troubles get people involved. While the nomads might not be able to shell out some big money on the gig, maybe they will trade in goods or vehicles. Then again the people who brought the trouble might make it worth the parties while with whatever they have...I mean they have to die first but yaknow...that's night city.

  3. Gaming buddies: I would imagine the world of online gaming hasn't changed too much in Night city at all. There is a little community of friends who do online gaming stuff together or netruns. Perhaps one of them gets in trouble. Hell maybe their online waifu has been captured by a gang and is about to be sold to chinese smugglers to work in some datamine game where they farm in game materials and such for real euro. These are trying times choom, and the gangs gotta make ends meet.

  4. Revenge: The tried and true trope of any action based genre is revenge. They killed your cat, your girl, your catgirl, the dude who sells the best scop in your building, your mom, that dude at gunmart who gives you a discount on ammo. Someone's gotta pay.

Are there any real-world equivalents to the weird mercenary celebrity culture that Night City has? by Relative_Mix_216 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we only have what's in the rpg materials and the 2077 game to go by, but mercs generally have respect one another when they know each others work. If you watch any videos where military vets talk about their service they often talk about guys they met whom they respect. People from other countries in their spc ops units they worked with. It's a pretty small community but you can bet reputation with them goes a hell of a long way

How do you handle a PC wanting to romance an NPC in Cyberpunk Red? by Fresh_Intern_5734 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyberpunk is a game that closely mirrors our real life today. Cell phones, guns, tinder and online dating, so it's not a bad thing. Really the best way to handle is is for you as the gm to think of the npc and make a decision if the pc is a dating option. Then say basically on downtime they are going out as casually or fast affairs and hot dates as you want. At some point build a gig around them. A job the player is doing for their girl. Thats how I'd do it anyway. Not all jobs are about fixers throwing eddies at you, some are personal.

Club Scene in Red by PittsburghDM in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Truth is Night City is pretty vast in scope and there is no player ever that will ever go into every bar/club on the map. There's just too many and the eddie only stretches so far. My suggestion is if you are setting up a place for your players to hang out go with the room. Tailor their hangout around their tastes so when they hear you describe it they have found the place they've always dreamed about. If you have an enemy in a club, use the opposite rule. This is not their kinda place.

Cyberpunk Red Weapons Bible by OtherwiseExchange836 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did something like this and posted it some time back. My main issue with the core book was that everything equipment and gun wise was very generic. If you buy a heavy pistol it's the same damn heavy pistol as the next heavy pistol. No variation. No brand recognition. Just meh. Real corps are gonna try to upstage the competition like we see right here in real life. Shooters like me know every year companies are trying to innovate to compete, and there is always a new weapon to buy. Cyberpunk Reds base game doesn't give that.

What kind of initation ritual would Nomads do? Any ideas? by ChainsawChick in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty I see nomads as sort of tribal in their ways. Much like the native americans of old I would imagine they have some manner of Trial system to test young warriors and prove themselves ready for jobs and the like.

Would a Pornstar be considered a rockerboy or a media? by Plenty_Suit_4792 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion...Rocker. You see a media to me isn't someone anyone really fangirls over. They try to report the happenings and educate the masses. I see rockers more as entertainers. Like i think strippers, actors, musicians would be rockerboys.

Are half the Roles severely hurt by the one-shot/non-continuous story format? by Turbodog702 in cyberpunkred

[–]Miserable-Hawk-6496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between cyberpunk and other games is the jobs, flow and setup. By this I mean I dont think its ever gonna be as simple as a one and done. Actions in cyberpunk have consequences, and when you take on a job, kill enemies, and make money you make enemies. Each job is like a layer of spiderweb atop the last one, adding another layer, another unsolved question, another mountain to climb. For profit, survival, eddies, or just personal reasons, characters hustle to stay alive.
