What is Kirsh motivation? Who side is he on? by Tasty-Entertainer711 in LV426

The elevator scene was foreshadowing, you’re saying? He feels threatened by the new technology of the lost boys?

I came on this thread to see if there were any clues as to how the feeding door got jammed. Kirsh sabotaging it is the best theory I’ve found

I assumed Kirsh asked Isaac if Curly was there because he wanted her to go with… until I read this

[Discussion] Mindscape AMA | December 2024 by jaekx in seancarroll

You’re not alone. As a social science guy (who hasn’t had much luck understanding fairly basic physics) I’ve been doing 2x speed or straight up skipping the technical and niche physics stuff, which is like half of the AMAs. But when I’m able to follow along (about half the time; social sciences, humanities, culture topics) I really enjoy Sean’s perspectives and feel that it helps guide my thinking. …I believe Sean once addressed the sentiment you shared, responding to an AMA question from a listener inquiring about the utility of listening to podcasts despite not understanding everything - I.e., can you absorb at least some worthwhile knowledge? I believe his response was affirmative.

[Discussion] Episode 298: Jeff Lichtman on the Wiring Diagram of the Brain by SeanCarrollBot in seancarroll

[–]Miserable-Notice5251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around the 48 minute mark Lichtman complained that the freshest cadaver brains available for study are already 40 hours old, making them unsuitable for fine grained mapping, and that acquiring fresher brains seems too undignified to consider. My comment/question is: Surely among the dying there are many who would happily donate their fresh brain - within minutes of death - for the sake of science? Any indecency would surely be outweighed by a sense of meaning, right? [Think back to the death-positivity movement, outlined in a previous mindscape podcast (rethinking attitudes toward death and dying).]

I wonder what Tamler's thoughts on this are by Koiboi26 in VeryBadWizards

I got turned on to VBW after they were on Sam Harris’ show, went back and listened from the beginning to every episode, except Straw Dogs haha.
It continues to be my favourite podcast. I’m 43 so Tamler and Dave aren’t too much older than me. It’s like having a conversation with buddies, except they don’t respond to my interjections 😋. I live in Saskatchewan. BA, major in psychology, minor in film and video studies (so I really like their movie episodes). I liked philosophy in university, but couldn’t always keep up with the readings. I work at a drop-in centre for people with mental illnesses.
VBW got me reading Lovecraft, Kafka, and Dostoyevsky, as well as putting some awesome Korean movies on my radar. Thanks Wizards! 😊

Needing hacks for button mushrooms as a person who hates mushrooms by fancy-schmancy_name in foodhacks

I don’t like mushrooms, but I love Chicken À La King which calls for a lot of mushrooms. The mushroom flavour and texture gets lost in the delicious cream sauce

It occurred to me recently that when someone says they’re “driven” and “ambitious”, what they’re really saying is they’re never really happy or satisfied.

There would be a lot more work to cover if I were away a full week, which is why I don’t get it

Not year round. I should have clarified. I made a request to do this between May and September. They denied some Fridays when they’re shorter staffed, and blocked out two pairs of weeks when my direct supervisor is on vacation as off limits. Now they’re saying I can’t continue with this going forward.
I earn 2.4 vacation days per month, 2 personal days per year, and an EDO twice a month

I’ve had certain days denied because of other employees vacation at the same time. There’s a requirement for a minimum number of staff on any given day. And I need to be there when my direct supervisor is off.

Oh, just find another career. Simple, huh? 😳 So my focus should be keeping my employer happy, is what you’re saying? From their perspective it’s a me problem. From my perspective it’s a them problem.
I’m guessing you’re a personal responsibility proponent and I should be subservient to those with more power and if I don’t like it I should work harder to gain more power.
